A little This and That /Garage door shopping
What a beautiful site to see this Saturday morning!
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying all that life has to offer.
At the moment, I'm waiting for my one-shell pie crust to bake.
I'm attempting to make a simple cream cheese pie, but since I didn't have a graham cracker crust, I decided to make a traditional pie crust instead. I might also dig through my pantry to see if I have any cherry filling that I can use.
Dramatic clouds hovered to the side as the semis trucks were stopped a few exits up, for snow chains.
But the good thing is LOVE is in the air....
I tell my husband that my concern for him comes from love; I don't want to see him in pain, which is why I encourage him to drink water. Ultimately, thanks to Al-Anon, I've learned that you can lead a husband to water, but you can’t make him drink it. I refuse to resort to extreme measures, like hog-tying or waterboarding him. Ultimately, the decision is his to make.
He's doing well and feeling better. I am closely monitoring his medications, and the hospital provided a printed list with the times and details, so it's easy to follow.
He feels so good that he wants to mow the lawn, but I'm not letting him.
The grass can wait.
I discovered these items at Target a couple of years ago in the dollar bins.
After being exposed to contagious germs for eight hours, we're taking a supplement with vitamin C, D, zinc, and magnesium. I haven’t caught a cold, flu, or COVID in 11 months and hoped to make it to March. I tried to escape the situation by walking outside in the rain and sitting in my van while my husband stayed inside.
New House Project for 2025
The other day we faced a frustrating experience when we couldn't get our garage door to open - leaving our car in the garage while I drove the Beast to the ER. The hardware holding the door is bent - which has worked the screws loose from the wall - my husband was in too much pain to open the door manually, and it was hard for me to reach without a stool and some arm strength. We were also concerned that the hardware might fail and cause the door to fall.
The house is 30 years old; buying new doors
16x7 ft size door and hardware may be the way to go.
I WANT:
A door with a higher insulation value than we have now.
No windows
Black, charcoal, or dark grey.
Metal
The installations take a day. We get a 10% military discount at Home Depot and Lowe’s, and I’ll check local stores for better offers.
I'm unsure if I can afford darker colors like black or dark gray, as they tend to cost more. Should I stick with a plain white door, which feels boring, or spend more for something I really want?
Want or NEED?
I can't have both.
I like this one the best! It should be black, charcoal, or dark grey.
The following are the latest trend in garage doors...
It's too fancy and more than I would want to spend for my simple house, but it is gorgeous!
I like these sleek, modern styles, but they wouldn't match the design of my house.
Living beyond our means...
On Monday, I will begin booking estimates and gathering prices. I prefer to avoid using credit if possible.
Sweet kitty paws!
Have a great evening - and Blessed Sunday!
Debby

I do like the black door. You never know you could get an excellent deal on one.
ReplyDeleteLook at all the snow on the mountains!! Chains would definitely be necessary. You have a lovely Sunday as well.
God bless.
For some reason the black doors are more $$. My husband said, to save $500 he’ll paint it. We still have my dad’s compressor he used in his commercial painting business.
DeleteOr we may see about getting it repaired if it’s doable. Then I’ll paint that door black! 😊
I'm glad your husband is so much better so quickly! You are doing really good managing him! Your photo of the clouds above the trucks is amazing! It almost looks like science fiction! I love little houses, and these are adorable! I also love the Target dollar bins, don't know how I ever missed these. I love the first black door the best, it really pops with the white around it.
ReplyDeleteI bought them 2-3 years ago. I looked this year and they didn’t have them.
DeleteAll nice doors for sure. Can't go wrong. I like your top pick as well. Sounds like you're feeling better about your husband's choices. Sorry you gotta go through this. Love the little Target finds. So stinkin' cute.
ReplyDeleteNeato on your bake. I just pulled another banana chocolate chip outta the oven. Cooling as I type. Delightful.
Yummm sounds good.
DeleteWow so many choices for garage doors!! I like the second one best.
ReplyDeleteLove the little houses.
Impressive sky!!
The 2nd door would be nice on your house -
DeleteWell, you know how much I like your "this and that" posts. Where do I start?.....those little houses from Target in the dollar section are sooooo cute. Did you paint them, or did they come that way? And I like your wooden plaque with the red and pink rose too. I'm glad to hear your husband is feeling better. Out of all the garage doors you shared, I actually like the one you chose - it's simple and nice looking. The other ones are too modern for me. That cloud photo is lovely as ever. I hope your cream cheese pie turned out, sounds Yummy! And cherry filling, even better. ; ) "This and That" posts are always fun and delightful.

I didn’t paint them - They came that way. They came in packs of three. I bought 2 packs and each little house is different. They’re really cute
DeleteGood luck with the garage door purchase. We have a boring white one. Cheesecake pie sounds good. I made a batch of brownies. Janice
ReplyDeleteOur white one has windows and the hot sun shines in making it hot in the summer. No windows this time!
DeleteOh, the snow covered mountains are so beautiful! And those clouds are awesome! Are you expecting a snow storm where the truckers will be driving? Wow! Weather sure can be fickle! I do love the cute little Target houses. It's fun to find cute little things like that. Regarding the garage door, I like the plain black best. The others are all beautiful, but I can imagine they would be very pricey. And yes, if you can get one that is insulated, that will help keep your garage cooler in summer and warmer in winter, which is a plus. I hope your pie turned out good! Which reminds me, I do have a graham cracker crumb pie shell in my pantry that I've totally forgotten about. I bet it's stale. How long do they stay fresh? I'd better check the date. I'd hate to throw it away. I totally forgot about it! Thanks for the reminder! Have a wonderful rest of your weekend. I hope hubby continues to feel better each day. Drink that water, please! Yes!!!
ReplyDeleteYes big snow in the high elevation mountains! Those semi’s are on their way up to Oregon and Washington.
DeleteAll the garage doors are pricey. We’ll be sure and use “wisdom” in making the best decision.
You make me laugh, Pamela - I’m glad I reminded you of your graham crack crust! My job is done here! 😉
The snow on the mountain is stunning.
ReplyDeleteAgainst the blue sky it was pretty to see this morning.
DeleteWe don't even have a garage, and I am jealous, lol. Wishing you a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteGarages are nice to have until you need to spring for a new door!
DeleteWe are in the process of looking at new garage doors as well. So many options out there! I think we are going to go with the standard black as well.
ReplyDeleteYou too? The search begins tomorrow
DeleteThe drama of the clouds is gorgeous. That's quite a line-up of the semi's going further north.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear that your hubby is feeling better. That was pretty scary.
I love the black door choice. Hope you can get it for a good price.
Ummm, the pie sounds delightful. Hope you found a can of cherry pie filling. Perfect for Presidents Day or Lincoln's birthday or Washington's birthday..
Have a good day. We are actually going to church this morning. First time in a while. Its good to feel better and not be spreading the germs around.
Sue
Yes I found the Dan of cherry pie filling. It was good!
DeleteI'm so very glad to hear that your hubby is doing better, Debby! We had to have our garage doors replaced several years back, and they are wonderful. I'm sure you can find a good bargain if you shop around. A blessed Sunday to you, too!
ReplyDeleteI was on it this morning - so we are close to deciding who we will go with
DeleteIt sounds like you’re making the most of a cozy Saturday, even with the dramatic weather! The cream cheese pie you're making sounds delicious, and I love the idea of adding cherry filling for an extra touch. It’s great to hear that your husband is doing better and that you're keeping a close eye on things. Your sense of humor about the water situation with him is both sweet and relatable—sometimes we can only do so much! 😊 And yes, the grass can definitely wait; his health is the priority! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and here’s to more love in the air!
ReplyDeleteOh yes more love! This week, we have our wedding anniversary and Valentine's Day!
DeleteHi Debby.....Nice post. I like the Valentine plaque, too. As for the garage doors, I'd say buy the ones you like. They will be with you for the rest of the time the garage is part of your life and you will be happy every time you drive in the driveway and see them! You can pay them little by little (hopefully). Hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Sincerely, Susan
ReplyDeleteYes! We will make our decision by the end of the week
DeleteWe no longer have a garage, but yes. Once they start to 'act out' it's time to bite the bullet; I know of two serious accidents caused by people trying to save a few bucks. Each one of these are lovely, but I like the barn doors best ... provided that house comes along. (lol)
ReplyDeleteI tried to get off by getting a repair done instead, but the metal was fatigued (metal fatigue). WHO KNEW?
DeleteI hope you can find a good garage door soon. We had to get a new one some years ago. For some reason it broke. We just got a new hot water heater a week ago Friday. Other one was leaking and we'd had it for years. I am glad you husband is feeling better. God bless you both!!--Becky
ReplyDeleteWe bought a new gas hot water tank 15 years ago and paid almost $1000. I don't think we can even find a gas water heater in the state of California now. So it will be more costly and we're getting due...
DeleteNever heard of a cream cheese pie, is it like a cheesecake
ReplyDeleteI guess - it is cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice, and vanilla. That's it.
DeleteThe black door looks nice.
ReplyDeleteGod bless always.
Yes it will be nice.
DeleteSo glad that hubby is feeling better. There is a lot of pain in dealing with a kidney infection. One of our favorite pies is a cream cheese pie....so Yummy! I like the look of the black garage door. I think they have such a clean look (of course, that is if you keep it free of dust and dirt). We do not have the glass in ours, and I prefer it that way. I most likely would go for the color that I wanted, like the black or gray. You will be happier with no regrets. The photo of the mountains covered in snow is so very pretty. What a wonderful view! I believe in vitamins, so I'm hoping you both stay well and free of any viral bugs.
ReplyDeleteIt was a yummy pie but I made my pie crust too thin - it was still good. Usually I use a Graham cracker crust. Today we went over a few places and I'm going with a charcoal - for some reason, Black is extra!
DeleteI actually forget if we went to Disneyland our senior year, but I think we did! I have a picture of me and my best friend, and it might be at Disney. I can't believe you went to Disneyland when you were a kid 2-3 times a year, lucky you haha. I went once when I was 6 - my mom and dad didn't like to travel, and the drive was about 7 hours from my hometown. I hope you get some snow, and I'll check out your Sacramento River post sometime. Can't believe it got that much water, wooohooo! Yes, Californians love when we get rain. : )
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Truthfully, it was my dad who LOVED Disneyland. We always went down in the summer - around the 4th of July and the week after Christmas. Then sometime in between. We'd go to bed at night and then wake up to be carried out to the car for that long drive south! Fun times.
DeleteYes, we Californians appreciate our rain!
I'm glad your husband is feeling better. I love the black garage door. I almost painted our white garage door on our old house black but I figured it would take too many coats to completely cover it and I was not up to all that work! Get what you want and you won't be sorry! That is a dramatic-looking sky!
ReplyDeleteWe've got some quotes today, as well as a repair quote. We'll make our decision by the end of the week.
DeleteHi Friend, I am happy your husband is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI too am a CASH person. All our projects have to be saved for. We too get estimates and then we save up if we don't have all the $$ right now.
We will take out a 3-month loan with no interest but always pay it off. Recently, we had to get tires due to a blowout—it took me 2 months to pay it off. I'm a saver more than anything.
DeleteI honestly had no idea (at all) there were so many options in garage doors. I suppose I should have known, but... Which one did you choose? We have to go with what the HOA suggests/demands. And that is (white) white or beige.
