The Weekend and the Week Ahead

Good Morning Monday

Well, Mother's Day 2025 is history, but we moms know every day is Mother's Day. I hope yours was everything you had hoped for.

My experience began at church, where the warmth of great teaching was complemented by a delightful ice cream social. It was heartwarming to see the men serving us and taking care of the clean-up too—we were able to relax and enjoy every moment. There were numerous flavors of ice cream and a wide array of toppings to choose from. I decided to keep things simple and went for vanilla ice cream, generously drizzled with Hershey's chocolate syrup, topped with bananas, a dollop of whipped cream, and just a sprinkle of chopped peanuts.

YUM!

My sons work on Sundays in facilities that care for our elders, serving the mothers and grandmothers of others. It’s sad how infrequently these residents receive visitors. Foodie makes a point to visit the moms there. Meanwhile, Navy is dedicated to serving our men and women Veterans, where families often visit their elderly relatives. So that is good. Although I didn't see my sons on Mother’s Day, it fills my heart with joy knowing they are caring for those who need it. Their kindness reassures me that I must have done something right!

Friday evening, it was my turn to go to the ER.

Earlier in the day, I felt a pressing sensation in my chest, similar to heartburn, which left me hot and out of breath. At dinner, my husband noticed and insisted we go to the ER. I wasn't too worried, but I called my daughter-in-law, Sara, a nurse, who advised me to go.

At the ER, I was seen quickly, but had to wait for test results. Thankfully, my blood tests, EKG, and chest X-ray were all normal; however, the cardiologist recommended a stress test. He was concerned due to my family history—my dad died of a heart attack, and before that had a seven valve replacement years earlier, and my son died from one at 25.

This morning, I checked each test individually, and they were great; better than I expected for my age! I think it was just my GERD acting up. I'm currently on omeprazole, but maybe the dosage needs some tweaking. I made a follow-up appointment with Dr. B for tomorrow and to get set up for that stress test.

The scripture that kept going through my mind while I was in the ER was one of my favorites:

You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.
 Trust in the Lord forever,
For the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Isaiah 26;3-4

I experienced a profound sense of calm.  While my husband expressed some concern, I felt an incredible sense of peace. It's surprising to me, because this isn't who I've always been. I've spent so much time worrying and battling anxiety in my younger days, and now I'm embracing this newfound tranquility.

It's a wonderful way to live.

It's the peace of God!

Navy caught a bass in Lake Shasta on Friday using my dad's worm lures.

Now that was special. I gave all my sons my dad's fishing equipment, and I kept a few items for myself.

✔Clean and organize my craft, sewing, and storage room.

✔Thursday - Isaiah Study

✔Friday evening and Saturday - We're attending a Friends of Israel conference -

✔Saturday evening: My husband has been invited to be one of the retired military service members for Veterans Day at the Redding Rodeo. Free admission and a free dinner.

I can't wait to dive into my first summer read! One of my BSF friends gave it to me—her husband wrote it and even signed it for me inside. It’s a Christian fantasy book, and I’m really excited to get started!

That’s a wrap for me today. I hear thunder rumbling in the background, so it seems like it's gonna be a rainy day. Take Care.

I am blessed by all of you!

Debby

  1. Oh my gosh, I am so glad that you are alright now!! Will your stress test be a treadmill or a chemical one? I just had the chemical one. You are so blessed that your sons are so caring!! What are these two gorgeous flowers??

  2. The ice cream social sounds wonderful. :)
Good you went to get checked out. I remember you praying for me when I had to go for my stress test. I'll do the same for you. :)

  3. Oh, that book looks very interesting. Be sure to do a review on it when you're done! Oh, what a fun idea, the ice cream social at church for Mother's Day! That was really "sweet", literally! And how nice that your sons are both in the care-giving kind of careers. I am sure they are good at what they do. You are blessed to have such caring sons. I'm sure that when you need it, they will be there for you. Love the fish and how it was caught with your father's lures. That is really special! Isaiah 26:3-4 is a good passage for us to remember. It is one of my favorites too. So thankful for ALL of God's Word... there is SO much there to give us hope and courage and peace. We are blesses to be His children. Oh, and I am thankful that your ER visit did not show any major issues. But it is always good to check it out and be sure. We've just come through a similar situation with my hubby yesterday and today, although he refused to go to the ER, but we did go to the Dr. and then for some further tests today. So far so good. But it is always better to be safe than sorry. I hope you have a blessed and healthy, happy week.

  4. I'm glad you had a nice day yesterday. Your sons are good men! It is sad when people don't get visitors, I used to see that too.
I'm glad you got checked out, praying for the stress test.

  5. And the men cleaned up after, as well? Hurrah!!!
I'm so glad you listened to your hubby (and Sara) and went to the ER! Several years ago I had something similar, -- and then felt a bit foolish -- but was quickly reassured they'd rather folks come in v. not and suffer the consequences. The stress tests aren't such fun, but with your God-sent sense of peace, I've little qualms. Please, let us know how it goes. Hugs!

    1. I was relieved it wasn’t a heart attack. Yeah I felt dumb but everyone there at ER said I did the right thing about coming in. Especially being a woman since many times our symptoms are different.

  6. Believe me, Debby, you can't take chances at our age NOT going to the ER when our bodies are acting strangely. I'm so glad to know that you went and that things are better for now. I know your sons must have been such blessings to those who had no visitors on Mother's Day. You raised two amazing boys, and that's a testament to a great mother if I've ever heard one. God bless you and your family this day and always!

  7. I am so glad you are okay - better than ever. I also have GERD and it is confusing - if it is heart or esophagus spasms.

  9. I am so glad that you are okay and probably by now you have finished your stress test. Glad they are looking into everything since you have a history of heart issues.
You have great sons and they do a difficult but fulfilling role in others lives.
My hubby takes Omeprozole too. It's been so helpful for him. Grateful. Yes Grateful for all that the Lord has blessed us with.
We just got several spritzes of rain yesterday but it was enough to give the Weeds a drink.. (:0)

    1. No stress test today. Today I saw Doctor B, and he referred me to my husband's cardiologist.

  10. That sounds like a lovely Mother's Day at church. Your son's sound like very caring men. So sorry to hear that you had to go to the ER, but it was the right choice. I didn't know about the son you lost. So sorry to hear this. ((HUGS)) I am glad to hear you have a sense calm. Take care.

    1. I pretty much felt ganged up on; all the while, I thought it was just bad heartburn. All the ER tests were really good, except my BP was way higher than I have ever had at 145/90. I was shocked by that!
No good reason not to feel calm - nothing I can do about it. It's just part of life as we age.

  11. Thankful that you are okay and hopefully it is just the gerd. Not to try to scare you in any way, but both times that I had to have a stent, I had just (a few weeks prior) had nuclear stress test done and neither of those test showed anything. But yet, I had significant blockage both times. Just a suggestion to ask for a CT heart scan. The ice cream social I know was a success...sounds so good. What a Blessing that both of your son's work in areas where they can help the elderly. I know you are proud of them. all of your pictures are so pretty....I do hope you are feeling better now.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm feeling fine and honestly believing it was bad heartburn. I just came back from seeing Dr B for the followup - he referred me to my husband's cardiologist

  12. It sounds like you had a nice Mother's Day without seeing the kids, a trip to hospital isn't good but sometimes it is for the best, good thing your tests didn't show anything nasty I have had terrible chest pain from reflux but never been to the hospital due to it.

    1. Neither have I - but they ganged up on me. Next time, when I think it is heartburn, I'll keep it to myself.

  13. So very glad you are alright. It was good that you went to the ER. I did not see my kids either for Mother's Day, but that is alright. They were busy. Yes please on the ice cream. YUM Janice

  14. I am very glad that your tests were all good. The family ganged up on you just because they love you.
    The book looks very interesting.

    God bless.

  15. You were smart to go to the hospital and get checked out. I've been having heartburn issues if I have too much ice cream; I wonder if that's becoming a trigger for you.

    1. I sure hope not. I love ice cream. 🍨 At least you know it’s ice cream. I think for me it’s tomatoes, onions, garlic and peppers. I haven’t given up on them but I have cut down some.
