Just a quick post to let you know that my review of Exodus will be up tomorrow.
Aren't they adorable?
We spotted some cute baby chickens at the Grange Co-op and started dreaming about getting our own backyard flock! We're planning to take the year to think and pray about it.
We need to check our city ordinances. We can have up to six chickens, but they must be a certain distance from neighbors, and we're unsure whether that distance is measured from the property line or from their house.
Since we're both former city kids, we don’t know much about this, but how hard could it be, right?
I just wanted to pick them up and kiss them. 💋

Just a Thought
We’re also considering enclosing our covered back patio to turn it into a Cattery for Susie! We want to take our time thinking it through and figuring out the costs, but it sounds doable. Or maybe an outdoor room that feels a bit more sheltered? It would be a lovely space for her to step out and enjoy the view while feeling safe and comfortable! It's just a thought. It's spring, and we're starting to get all these project ideas.
And today we ordered 6 cubic yards of decorative rocks for delivery on Monday for the front yard, so we've been a bit busy this past week.
Other than that, not much is going on worth mentioning.

Yeah it is and boy the ideas keep coming up, half of which probably won't ever materialize.
DeleteThe chicks look adorable. I've never kept birds of any sort, so have no advice. We enclosed our garden for our cats so that they can go out safely and not disappear into someone else's garden.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea. I've lost two cats to coyotes when we moved here. Seems my indoor/outdoor cats were safer in the city than here. Too many predators.
DeleteMy son and daughter-in-law have chickens and love them. They have space in the country, though, so that makes a difference. I turned a very small 'breezeway' between a back door and my shed, into a catio (cat patio). It gives my two boys a place to be outside in the fresh air with something different to look at. Keep us posted!

DeleteMy son and DIL once 'inherited' chickens with a house purchase. That worked out well for a while ... until it didn't.

DeleteI agree that those chicks are absolutely adorable, Debby! There is a neighbor who has chickens, but she lives on at least an acre of land. You do need to see what your town ordinances are before doing anything. I do love your idea of a screened-in outdoor hangout for Susie. Blessings!

DeleteIf you do decide on chickens I would strongly suggest you build a coop with an adjoining enclosed run to keep the critters away.

DeleteChickens can get both big and loud. I literally had to move from our house in So Cal because the neighbors had chickens/hens that crowed throughout the day and were so loud. It was awful because we were so close to their house. I do hope you have some chickens who are quieter and not so aggressive. Keep us updated on how they are doing. ; )
ReplyDeleteBob had made a catio for our kitties when we had them. He just built a wood frame and then purchased screening at our local hardware store. He did put in a door he had hanging around just in case. It was attached to one of our windows so when the window was open they could go in and out when they wanted to. If considering chickens, just remember you may get a few roosters in the purchasing of baby chicks. Some places that sell them do not just give out hens...at least around here they dont. Janice

Cant wait to here the choices you make, little chicks, we call them biddies in the south, and Bob calls the peeps, are adorable. do you have critters that will eat them? something else to think about
