The Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What's one thing you want to get done before the calendar flips to a new year?

I believe I am done with nothing left to do other than enjoy the rest of 2024.

2. What's something that brought a smile to your face this year?

I have forged beautiful connections with mature believers - women of faith at both my church and BSF.

3. What do you like on a cracker? Do you have a favorite cracker variety?

I recently discovered my new favorite snack—Stacy's cinnamon-sugar pita chips! They’re the ideal crispy, sweet treat. Paired with fresh berry salsa, they’re an irresistible combination that I can't get enough of!

4. Do you have plans for ringing in the new year in a fun or special way? Are you typically awake at midnight on the last day of the year?

I’m all about keeping it cozy!

A typical New Year's Eve for us:

  • We'll have goodies
  • We watch a movie
  • Give Laydee a tranquilizer
  • In bed around 10 p.m.
Then suddenly, at the stroke of midnight, loud illegal fireworks from the neighborhood.  We spring out of bed, adrenaline rushing as we try to calm our trembling dog, who shakes like a leaf despite the tranquilizer.

Unless it rains...

Sundown on New Year's Day marks the final evening of Hanukkah, and we’re having a very small gathering with a few friends.

5. What are three words that describe your 2024?

I’m not really into these wordy things—kind of like New Year’s resolutions, nobody really sticks to them. But when I look back at the year, I’d say Blessed, Humbled, and Thankful.

It was a good year!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Hey, Fellow Hodgepodgers!

As the holiday season kicks into high gear and many of you head out of town or get swept up in family festivities, I just want to take a moment to Wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories!

Let’s make this season about Jesus!

Until next time -

Debby

  1. Merry Christmas Debby,

  4. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Debby! Like you, I am thankful for every day God gives us, and even though 2024 was a rough one, health-wise, for my husband, here we are, still together and in love. Blessings!

  5. Poor Laydee! Maybe it will rain on New Year's eve!

  6. I see Stacy's Pita Chips all the time yet, I'm leery to try. The first/only bag I bought last year, the chips liked to break a tooth! (Maybe I should give them another chance?) Don't get me started on disturbing fireworks. So many little dogs are terrified and go missing each year, not to mention veterans who suffer from PTSD.
Thank you for your sweet tidings!

    1. Yeah they can be a bit crisp! I did notice that.
We have a friend who is a Vietnam vet with severe ptsd and I always think of him. He also doesn’t like big dogs. I wish people would follow the law but they never have and probably never will.

  7. Good for you on #1. Enjoy the rest of the year. Stacy's are very good but I haven't had their cinnamon ones. Sound delicious. Watching the movie on New Year's sound like fun. We do stay up until midnight. Those are three beautiful words you shared. Love your random. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Take care and God Bless.

  8. Those are my wishes to you and your family too.
Its been a hard year for us but a good year at the same time. Even after 61 years of marriage I feel we have built a stronger bond with each other.
Praying for new friends, old friends and us to grow and embrace all that is to come.
    Definitely keeping Christ in Christmas.

    1. Wow 61 years! That is incredible! As we approach that new year we just never know what the year will bring! No matter what, we should always first go to Him as our refuge and shelter.

  12. Amen to your last statement and kind wishes! Praying you and yours have a blessed and Happy Christmas as well. We will also be in bed by 10:00 on New Year's Eve. And yes, oftentimes the neighbors do set off fireworks. Thankfully we don't have a doggy to be upset by them, but they are sometimes too much for us to bear. I'm happy you have had a good year with your ladies' Bible Study and new good Christian women friends. That is truly a blessing and something to treasure. Thank you for your friendship! Have a blessed rest of your week!

    1. The 2 evenings a year that I no longer enjoy are New Year’s Eve and 4th of July. All due to illegal fireworks.

  14. The Stacy chips are really good. My dog hates fireworks and they are pretty bad over here too. We put two loud fans on to help drown out the noise. I think that is nice that you are celebrating the end of Hanukkah. I found a small battery-operated menorah at Walmart today to keep in my bedroom. I am excited to set up my table for Hanukkah!

  16. I like the sea salt variety of those chips and also the jalapeno if you like a little spice. They are good with hummus too. Merry Christmas!

  18. I loved reading your answers today. I think because I could had written most of them myself! Hooray for being ready for 2024. And what a blessing to have made beautiful connections. I have done much the same through Community Bible Study!! And, your new year plans sound so familiar to mine. Our poor pups - they just hate the new year celebrations!! And, yes, let's make this season all about Jesus!! Merry Christmas, friend!
