Once Upon a Hodgepodge

1. February 26th is National Tell A Fairy Tale Day...have you read a fairy tale lately? What's your favorite fairy tale?

I haven't read a fairy tale in years. As a child, my favorite was Rapunzel.

Do you believe in 'happily ever after'?

Yes I do!

The Christian life offers a unique sense of "happily ever after," rooted in the eternal joy we find in Christ. Through His death and resurrection, we have new life and are assured of our salvation (Romans 8:38-39, John 10:28-29).

While we may face everyday life challenges, we can rejoice in the hope of glory and Christ's presence within us (Colossians 1:27). Our "happily ever after" is both a current reality and a future promise, allowing us to live confidently and joyfully in His everlasting love.

2. Complete one of the following sentences with a thought relating to your life currently-

  • Once upon a time___________
  • A long time ago________________
  • In a place far far away__________
* Once upon a time, a long time ago, in a place far far away was a small village nestled between a valley, a dense forest and a volcano. The villagers lived simple but happy lives, tending to their farms, telling stories by the fire, and celebrating the changing seasons with harvest feasts.

3. Which of the following 'fairy tale foods' is your favorite? Which have you made/eaten most recently?

porridge/oatmeal (Goldilocks and The Three Bears), an apple (Snow White), a gingerbread cookie (The Gingerbread Man), pumpkin soup/pie/bread (Cinderella), peas (The Princess and the Pea), beans (Jack and The Beanstalk) or a cup of tea (Alice in Wonderland)

I’ve enjoyed all of them in the last three months. Who knew I was eating "fairy tale foods?"

4. What's your idea of fun?

I like spontaneity. I’m not good at planning specific “fun” days, so I like to see what develops.

For example, we enjoy spontaneously taking an alternate side road that leads to another off-road where no one is around. We can stop and explore the unbeaten path and appreciate the area.

5. Next week's Hodgepodge lands in March. Is that right? I guess so.  Give us one noun, one verb, and one adjective that tell us something about your February. To make you think a little harder, you cannot use the words cold or snowy.

short

Rainy

Hopeful

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Would a random thought be also a rambling thought?

So many curious thoughts in my head every single day yet when it comes to answering this every week I come to a complete stop.🛑

and like always, a few days later, I think, “I should have said that instead.”

  1. right now my random thought is, I recognize your once upon a time story, I know you love your Shasta valley. My most liked fun, is a DSLR camera in my hand and rambling through the woods and parks here. I preferred my parks untouched by human hands but THEY have put board walks and paths and stuff in it and ruined it.. Cinderella and Rapunzel were the stories I read the most in my fairy tale books, but I loved them all. been years, like 70 years since I last read one.. but I do read every day

    1. I want a better camera - my iPhone takes good photos but I enjoy micro close up shots and panoramic which I can’t get on my iPhone.

  2. Number 4 - we drove off the beaten path yesterday and located a very nice paved walking trail that goes around water, and we will be back to walk it many times soon. I'm so thrilled we found it too. I do love to plan weekend getaways, camping trips, picnics, porch grilled dinners, and so much more for fun and relaxation.

  3. That was a deep thinking Hodgepodge. I do believe Happy Ever After no matter what in Heaven as well. I have never had pumpkin soup but I love pumpkin bread.
I like that spontaneity is what you enjoy. Wish I was better at it.

    1. Planning trips and such, really stresses me out. I don’t know why. If I could hire a trip planner that does everything - even down to what to pack and even shop for it, that might help. 😜

  9. I think this hodgepodge was a little harder and I certainly would have to put my thinking cap on if I were answering these questions...I guess the purpose is to keep you clearly processing these questions and keep you on your toes. Hope you have a wonderful day out there in CA...We have sunshine here today...

I didn't know I was eating Fairy Food either. I like them all and really enjoy pumpkin bread.
I guess my favorite fairy tale would be Cinderella and her gorgeous ball gown. Sometimes I wish I had the Fairy godmother's magic wand to change a few things.

    1. Yeah my boys were never really into fairy tales. I remember back when I had my daycare we providers were cautioned about fairytales and very young children so I steered away from them. I liked them when I was a child - Jack and the Beanstalk kinda freaked me out.
