Thinking of Spring?

Happy Winter, 2025
as of 7:03 am PST

It's crazy that, even before Winter began, I was already receiving those enticing seed catalogs.

One of my greatest joys is exploring the fascinating world of sunflowers, with the Red Torch Mexican Sunflower being a favorite! Its bright red color brings a burst of happiness to my yard. I didn't plant any last year so I'm looking forward planting them this spring.

While it feels a bit premature to dream of spring, especially on day one of Winter, the beautiful pages awakened my imagination, filling my mind with visions of sunny, golden days ahead.

Ahhhhh.

No, No, No,

I won't be tempted any longer -

I won't allow myself to get off-season...

The joy of the commercialization of our seasons and holidays...to nudge us from our comfortable lives to hurry up and be the first.

Just leave me be!

Rushing through life can cause us to miss the beauty and lessons each season offers. The Psalmsist wrote,  "My times are in His Hands." While I'm excited for what's ahead, I'll chill a bit and appreciate the beauty this Winter of 2025 has to offer.

  1. I would love to have sunflowers in my yard this season. Keep reminding me and it may happen. At this point its all we can do to just get the weeds pulled and our lawn cut. I would love to have bachelor buttons and sweet peas too. Just dreaming at this point.
Well almost time to scoot to church.
    Enjoy the Lord's Day

    1. Oh I know about the weeds. We keep paving over parts of the lawn and putting in rocks. Lord willing we can finally be done with that this year. What we do have has helped enormously, in weed control and maintenance.

  3. We were at TJ/TK Maxx and Valentine is out. I confess, Tim got me a lovely heart blank book journal/diary and I can't wait to write in it. So many pretty hearts. Haven't seen Easter or Spring yet but no doubt it will be there soon enough.

  4. I agree about racing through life. Life is so short, and we would miss it all if we did this! The seed catalog is so gorgeous! Before I started reading your post, I thought it was a nature book with beautiful illustrations, and was going to ask how I could buy it! I love sunflowers! We don't see much variety of them here though.

    1. It's Baker Seed catalog. It's like art! Oh sunflowers are among my favorites, along with poppies but as soon as I said that, A bunch of other flowers came into my mind as well. I really do love all flowers except for the The corpse flower! (Amorphophallus titanum)

  5. We receive catalogs all the time via coming in the Nursery Mail. I try to plan out what new things that I want to add for the upcoming Spring. And of course, some flowers need to be planted early so I try to stay up with this as well. Love sunflowers but I also try to plan for the early blooming flowers like tulips and such. Enjoy this wonderful Sunday.

    1. Oh I bet. That's your business, so of course you would be receiving many. You must be very busy planting bulbs and flowers in your yard. I bet it looks gorgeous! Im afraid, I tend to delegate the job to my husband now. My knees just can't take it anymore.

  12. At my other house I loved getting my seed catalogs. I had an acre of land with many flower and veggie beds. Always enjoyed planning out which ones I would get each year. This home there is no room for anything that I already have. Have fun perusing through yours. Janice

  14. I remember when my mom used to get those catalogs. I always love to look at the photos of all the flowers and veggies. Especially the colorful ones of veggies that you don't normally see. such as the colorful corn or pumpkins.
