This and That
Good good, morning!
The Weather Forecast
It seems like I've been sitting on the sidelines while everyone else is enjoying cold winter temperatures. I want some, too!
The temperatures are on the cooler side, and we observed frost on the grass this morning. However, the outlook for Wednesday and Thursday indicates a warming trend, with temperatures expected to rise into the 70s. Following this brief warm spell, we can anticipate a drop in temperatures as Arctic air moves in over the weekend.
I'm excited.
So I pulled out my snowman.
I’m looking forward to soaking up the sun over the next few days before the chilly winter vibes kick in.
These shamrocks (Oxalis) are starting to bloom right on time—getting ready to be in full swing by March, just in time for St. Patrick's Day!
As I strolled around the yard, I realized we've got a ton of yard work to tackle. We really should have been out there during the nice weather these past few weeks, but we didn’t.
This poor Aloe Vera needs some help, along with all its little babies.
Anyone want a FREE Aloe Vera?
That’s probably what I’ll do—just put them out with a free sign. I’ve got some coffee cans I could use to plant them in.
Currently, the blue hyacinths that Foodie planted for me years ago, are starting to pop up - He also planted the daffodils.
Every year, we talk about digging them up and putting them somewhere better. Foodie planted them right at the edge of the walkway, so sometimes the flowers end up getting damaged.
Did I ever share the reason behind my deep sentiment for daffodils? When my sister was born, Dad brought me a bouquet of bright yellow daffodils to celebrate my new role as a Big Sister!
I like the close-up look of a Fan Palm and all its strings.
Tomorrow, I won’t be leading my class because it’s our turn to help out in the children's classes, which happens twice a year. I’ll still meet with the other group leaders for our study and leader training, but instead of heading to my usual group, I’ll be going over to the kids’ wing. The other gals who aren’t serving will join a different discussion group. Overall, it means I’ve had a pretty chill week and didn’t have as much prep as I usually do.
Every time I get up from the sofa, it turns into a fun little race to see who can grab my spot first! This time, Susie made it to my seat before Laydee. She's giving Laydee a curious glance because Laydee doesn't seem too thrilled about it!
Isn't it amazing how much joy our pets bring us? They’ve truly become a wonderful source of entertainment!
I’ve got some good news to share! Previously I mentioned my husband was trying to get a higher disability rating with the VA - Well, he just got one of his service-related disabilities approved at 10%, which bumps his total up to 50%! They didn’t approve the others, but his VA rep said they’ll be appealing those decisions.
Getting that 50% rating really opens up a lot of doors for him, and I’m happy about it. He totally deserves it. As you get older, those old service injuries have a funny way of coming back to haunt you, and trust me, they really have!
So it's a HUGE Praise to God!
That's it - Have a great Tuesday.
Debby
PS. I'm expecting something in the mail this afternoon that I am looking forward to. I'll write about it on Thursday as tomorrow is the Hodgepodge.
No trees were killed in the sending of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

That last meme is hysterical, Debby! And the look on Susie's face is absolutely priceless, too. It reminds me of the "battles" my dog and cat used to have. Honestly, they really did like each other. Daffodils are ever a favorite of mine, too. God bless!
ReplyDeleteSusie and Laydee are paw sisters! They like each other but at times they have their ways. Usually watching the other if they’re getting something they aren’t.Always funny to watch their interactions
DeleteI love the can opener meme - cats are so funny!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your flowers. We have been having such a storm! Everything is closed and lots of roads too, because of accidents. It's very cold, wind chill of -12 right now. And they just put out another storm warning going through Thursday. But Spring will come and we will rejoice!
Daffodils are so cheerful. I love that your Dad brought you some to celebrate being a big sister.
I'm happy for your husband. And now I'm waiting to hear about your delivery.
They are funny.
DeleteEven when we finally get some cold weather it wouldn’t be that bad. At least it’s not snowing or is that coming?
I can't wait to find out what is coming in the mail! Do you know the reason for the strings on the Fan Palm? We have no flowers at all here now. We have a Shamrock plant at the side of the house; it is a purple one.
ReplyDeleteI tried to look it up and could not find the reason for the strings.
DeleteP.S. I'm so glad to hear the good news for your husband!!
ReplyDeleteWe’re pleased.
DeleteCongratulations on the good news for you husband...He does deserve it. I can smell the hyacinths now..they are so sweet smelling. I love their fragrance. How sweet of a memory that the daffodils bring you. I always look forward to them blooming..the bright yellow makes me smile. Hope you get some cooler weather soon...Mr. Frosty will be happy too. hugs
ReplyDeleteI love the sunshine but it’s winter and this much sunshine and milder temperatures, trees start budding out etc. then we get a frost and it threatens the fruit.
DeleteI am so glad that your Husbands disability was raised in one area. Keeping my fingers crossed for the others.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks
DeleteThe shamrocks are beautiful and love the daffodils too. My son David picked some out of our garden and brought them to me in the maternity home when Debbi was born. He was just 20 months old.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious memory.
DeleteCongrats to your hubby on the 'bump up'! My Tom's only at 30%, yet we're grateful. Love the daffodil back story .... what a thoughtful daddy! Your last paragraph is so funny!
ReplyDeleteHe should have it reevaluated. My husband does about every 5 years or so.
DeleteOh, how I dream of 70 degree weather. Here in PA we are in single digits with snow on the ground. The schools had a two hour delay today and already called for it tomorrow because of frigid air and icy roads. I cannot wait for warmer weather and when my daffodils are ready to bloom in the spring.
ReplyDeleteThe cold is coming and hopefully some rain too.
DeleteI assume that a higher disability percentage leads to a higher monthly check?
ReplyDeleteYes and retroactive pay when he first applied.
DeleteLoving that can opener cat meme. Too funny. Dont wish for cold weather. It is negative 4 here this morning. You may get your wish some day. I heard Louisiana had blizzard warnings yesterday. They never get snow. The Robins are back here, so maybe Spring will be here soon in our neck of the woods. Janice
ReplyDeleteSo happy for the upgrade in disability pay! I'm sure every bit will be appreciated and put to good use! I love the daffodils! My sister is a great lover of daffodils, although we can't grow them here in Florida. When we lived in Pennsylvania my mother would make an angel food cake for my sister's birthday (April 5th), and put a little vase of daffodils in the middle hole of the cake. So that has been a tradition ever since, except that here in Florida the only daffodils come in pots in the grocery stores, but sometimes much earlier than April, so it is hard to find them for her birthday. I now bake her angel food cake for her since our mother passed away (in 2006), and if I can't find real daffodils I have some silk ones handy for use.
ReplyDeleteWe are having very cold weather here and a winter storm warning. No snow for us, however, and it is only about 33 degrees, so it really didn't get as bad as expected, but the winds are very frigid and we had a LOT of rain last night, so roads are slushy. I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere today.
Susie made me laugh, and so did the race with laydee. Beau doesn't have anyone to racde, but the second Bob gets out of his spot, Beau is there. this is new, just started since the storms came through. we have no idea why. we are waiting for the FL cold to leave and our beloved sun to come back... we are both addicted to constant sunshine.
ReplyDeleteMy brother recently got his disability changed, he is Vietnam Vet and now gets a separate check for the cancer thing that I can't remember the name of.
What a cute story about the daffodils. The yellow ones are pretty. I love that first picture of the table and chairs next to the white fence. Too bad about your aloe vera plant. Aloe is such a special healing plant. That's a delightful picture of Susie who got on the couch before anyone else got a chance to. Great news for your husband with the VA benefits. That baby is so cute dancing at the end. : ) Always love your "this and that" posts, Debby. They are filled with many unique things.
