A Sunday Post

Happy Sunday.

It's another sunny day! The temperature is currently 62 degrees, but it feels cold in the shade. Once the sun sets behind the mountains, it will really get chilly fast!

It was only 31 degrees this morning!

Oh, and I also picked up some of these mini wooden crosses to share with random people - spreading a little hope and inspiration.

Many hands make light work.

Being a member of a small church offers a unique sense of community that is hard to find in larger megachurches. Everyone has a role, and I truly appreciate that. I’m part of the hospitality group, where every Sunday, along with three other ladies, we ensure that our congregation has their coffee and donuts after the service.  We pick up the donuts, carefully slice them in half to minimize waste, prepare the coffee and hot water, and set out paper plates, napkins, and pitchers of ice and water in the fridge, ready to serve when our service is over and everyone comes downstairs.

Since my husband and I live closest to the Bagel shop, he takes on the task of picking up the bagels and cream cheese. Both the donuts and bagels are pre-ordered and waiting for us. All we have to do is pick them up.

Now, my husband will be working the sound system and they can rotate. It truly feels good to be so plugged into our church community.

Good news about the FOB situation. He found it in the basket where we keep the dog's leashes and harnesses. He discovered it just in time because he had checked with a local locksmith on Friday. The locksmith quoted us 50% less than what the dealer had quoted, and he was about to order it through the locksmith!

Saved 100%
by not having to buy one in the first place.

So, I found the tile I had initially given him and stood over him as he placed it on the key ring and activated it.

Lord willing, he should be good.

Yesterday, we gathered to celebrate the life of Gail's husband, a beloved member of both his church and Gail's temple. The interfaith memorial was a beautiful tribute, highlighted by a karaoke sing-along of "Whiter Shade of Pale," which brought laughter and joy. As well as a stunning guitar rendition of "Fire and Rain".

Each memorial is unique, just like the individuals we honor, and the Rabbi recited the beautiful Kaddish and El Rachamim prayers.

Afterward, we enjoyed a dinner together. Overall, this memorial was uplifting, and I left with a sense of peace. I only met Randy twice, but we were really there for Gail, who appreciated our presence.

That's a wrap for this Sunday post! I hope you’re all having a lovely evening and feeling excited about the week ahead. It’s amazing how fast these weeks fly by, isn’t it? Let’s make the most of them! Enjoy your night!

  1. Can you send us some of your warmth please? So cold today that we ended up watching/taking part in Mass online, -43C was not conducive to getting our vehicle to start.
    The memorial sounds just lovely.

    God bless.

    1. Oh my goodness Jackie. That’s
-45.4 degrees fahrenheit. I’ve never been in that cold of weather. I just can’t believe how cold that must be. Boy Canada gets cold!
Well if I could send the warmer temps I would for sure. We’re just in a dry phase now and still in our rainy winter. Sometimes our biggest storms are in February and March! So we’re next and very soon.

  2. I'm glad you found the keys, and just in time. The crosses are pretty, I have never seen ones like these. Never heard of a church that serves bagels and donuts after the service, that is so cool!!

    1. All the others I have gone to, have coffee going - never bagels and donuts. We only have one service so everyone fellowships after the service. Very friendly church.

  3. We're cold here too, but nothing compared to Jackie! It's 5 degrees now, expected to get to -15 tomorrow night. I'm ready for Spring!
I really like those crosses. My husband carves little crosses and also hands them out.
I'm so glad you found that key fob!
Glad you were able to be at that memorial and support Gail.

    1. Oh I bet your husband’s crosses are much nicer. I try to collect a little stash of inexpensive gifts to give.

  4. I will even take the 31 degrees at this point. It is currently 5 right now and our high will be only 20. Brrr Am really looking forward to Spring right now. What a wonderful idea to hand out crosses randomly. Glad you found the key fob. I know they are quite expensive. A wonderful way to celebrate Randy's life and am so glad you are feeling the community with your new church. Janice

  5. we are in the coldest week we ever had at this time of year. 48 at wake up 55 high. for a week, and the worst part is mostly cloudy, no sunshine. this is COLD and we are rarely ever without sunshine. that said, glad I am not negative anything or ever your temps.
YAY!!! for the Fob find and the tile connected.. Bob just said I would never buy a car with a key fob, I said not that you can afford a new car, but if you could, you would not find one without a fob or computer screen which he swears he would not buy.. he is stuck in the years he grew up, 1936 birth year. ha ha... now I am off to find out if there is a car on the market without a fob/computer. he deosn't know I am about to get tiles for his things and sneak one in his wallet

    1. I never even thought about the Fob - but the first time you misplace it, makes me realize that these are not as easy to replace as keys. That’s a good idea about his wallet

  6. The memorial sounded really lovely, my friend. Wishing you a beautiful day my friend.

  7. We lost one of our fobs while on vacation one year. I found a place online to order one, along with a key, for a very low price. The hotel found ours in the meantime. About two years later I found out about a local area locksmith that did house calls, and charged a very low fee to program the fob, and cut a key and program the key (has a chip in it). I was tickled pink, and we have two working fobs now, because one of ours had quit working.

    1. Wow that’s good. This was the first time we actually checked all of that out. Seems all this technology which is supposed to make our lives easier actually can be a hassle as well.

  8. That memorial service certainly sounded like an uplifting one, Debby. Glad the key fob was found, too. Enjoy this brand new week, my friend. God bless!

  10. Thank God for finding that fob -- hiding in plain sight! Those still amaze me; when I walked in from Bible study earlier Tom asked, how did you get your car to work? He found the fob's little inner 'key' laying on the floor, just inside the front door. No idea how it fell out, but I'm going to have to be more careful going forward.
Love those sweet crosses. One of the oldest members of our little congregation makes 2" x 2" crosses out of wire and horseshoe nails and gifts to random people -- both in the church and throughout the community.
I love the idea of an interfaith memorial, and Whiter Shade of Pale's one of my favorite songs!

  11. So glad the fob was found..So many things are "hidden" in plain sight for me..haha..
I really do miss all the serving at church that Dave and I have done most of our lives. We often did hospitality too and served bagels and donuts. It always ws a great time to visit with everyone.
Your memorial service sounds lovely and I'm glad you were able to attend.

    1. I’ve always been a service- oriented type person. Even in jobs. When I was a nanny I loved “serving” the family and I got a lot of satisfied from it.

  12. It was 34 here this morning, and is only 46 now at almost 4:00 p.m. Our cold front arrived yesterday with a LOT of rain and wind and lightning. Today is sunny and cold. I love those little crosses. What a nice idea. A lady in our church recently gave me a similar one and I appreciate it so much. How nice to do the coffee/donut/bagel fellowship time. Does your church meet really early so that people will stay around after? Our people are anxious to get going to lunch at 11:30 when we usually get out of church. Still, I love the idea of the fellowship time. It's good to have time to visit with each other and stay connected with people.

    1. There is an early morning Bible study - but the bagels and donuts are for after our one service. The only Sunday we don’t do the bagels/donuts are pot luck Sundays which are once a month. It’s easy to meet people at this church - unlike the big multiple service churches.

  13. Sure glad you found that FOB.
My church isn't little nor big but just right. :) We have about 150 - 200 people who attend.
    Love the quote.

    1. When I was living in the Bay Area my church had three services and 3000 people. When I first started there, we met in a school gymnasium - with about 200 - then built the church building and it took off.

My church now has one service and about 125-150 people.

  14. Oh, I love those little wooden Crosses. So good of you to buy them and share them with everyone. The bagels and donuts sound Yummy, and it's great that you prepare them for the congregation after the service. So glad that your husband found his keys! I left my card on the car after I got gas, and talked with Saint Anthony (Saint of the Lost), and drove back, and sure enough, it was sitting in the parking lot. It fell off the car when I drove away. I was so relieved. I'm sure your friend, Gail, was so pleased to see you at the Memorial. Fire and Rain is a classic song. Yes, January has flown by. Enjoy the rest of the days, Debby.

  15. Glad you found the fob. those things are expensive, but when you have to have one, there is no other choice than to pay. Sorry for the loss of your friend, my condolences to his family. I love those little crosses. I have seen them (at some shop) and thought what a very nice gift a cross would make. So pretty. Serving a small breakfast with church friends is always so nice, it gives the opportunity and time to fellowship. Our church does the same and it is open to the teenagers as well. It is nice to be able to visit with the younger generation as well. I sure would like some of your warmer weather. I have enjoyed this cold snap, but it is REALLY cold out there today. Sends hugs to you today.

  16. Those crosses are very nice. That is sweet of you. I'm happy that you like the church you belong to. Yum on the treats you bring. I'm so glad he found it, that's great news.
