The week ahead
Sanctity of Life Sunday is approaching later this month. In a previous post, I mentioned that the churches in my area had raised a million dollars in cash to purchase a new building for the Pregnancy Center and cover expenses for the first year.
My husband is currently volunteering at the center, so yesterday he went in to help with construction, which involved tearing down some walls to create larger rooms and removing old carpet. After the work was done, each volunteer was given a scarf as a thank-you gift.
Do you see what I see? 💓
The building used to be a doctor's practice, so they had to tear out the lead-lined walls from the former X-ray room.
Sometime after May, I plan to join up and volunteer as well. I am not sure in what capacity I would be serving.
I believe they will work diligently to have it open as soon as humanly possible.
They had over 40 workers there.
I wanted to get this Sunday-afternoon post out as I approach the start of the Winter Semester at BSF. Our class is this Wednesday, and it's time for me to dive in and prepare. So I most likely won't be posting/commenting until later this week. While I cherished the time off, there’s still work ahead. Thankfully, I have a solid understanding of the book of Esther, but as we all know, the more you study the Bible, the more you get out of it and find new things.
I picked this up at the store to try; it tastes similar to my peach cobbler, but much sweeter. I won't be buying it again, because I can make it myself, but it did inspire me to make my own. My favorite part is when the biscuit part caramelizes the sugar, and there is that crunchy top. Yum.
UPDATE on BRENDA's House
Today at church, I talked with Brenda and her husband about their house. They had a construction crew come in to remove the drywall and insulation and to apply a mold-preventive spray. They had heaters and fans to dry out the house. Since then, she has become very anxious when it rains hard and the wind blows. It's hard for her to sleep, especially since the flash flood intruded into her bedroom while they were asleep. It will take some time to get over this. But they count themselves blessed knowing it could have been worse.
Enjoy the week ahead! It's the first full work week of 2026, and while I don't have a traditional paying job,
I do have commitments. It is one of the best things about retirement. I can finally do the things I always wanted to do, but didn't have time for.
Until Next Time,
Debby

I love the news on the crisis pregnancy center and that your husband is helping out. The scarf is great, perfect verse!
ReplyDeleteI know you'll enjoy Esther!
We'll have 2 more weeks in Esther, then Haggai - then on to Zechariah. We're going through the exile and return. It's been a interesting study.
DeleteHow beautiful and very meaningful this scarf is. This sounds like a huge project, but one that is so needed. What a blessing it is to have dedicated volunteers and I am sure it blesses the workers as well. Prayers for your study to go well. Esther will be a wonderful study.. I did the Bible study of Esther about 4 years ago. Enjoyed it throughly...like you said, there is always more to learn.
ReplyDeleteYes it will be good when it finally opens.
DeleteThat scarf is extra special!! Especially with all the little treasures hiding on it. I have the Dolly Parton buttercream frosting and it is so good!
ReplyDeleteMy store is just beginning to showcase some of her products.
DeleteI recently saw some Dolly desserts at my grocery store but did not purchase anything. May have to try at least one now. I so hope the center gets opened and the saying about volunteers is so true. Janice
ReplyDeleteOh I'm sure it will.
DeleteHappy to hear Brenda is getting there house back in order, sad to hear she has the PTSD thing going on.. Prayers her mind will adjust and she can get back to peaceful sleeping. What a blessing the new building will be and I like that tiny baby in the womb on the scarf. Enjoy leading your Bible study, we will be waiting
ReplyDeleteIt will take some time. Our homes are a sanctuary for us, and when some outside entity invades that space, it really rocks our inner peace. And that's where the peace of God comes in. He is our peace!
DeleteI'm thrilled about that pregnancy center, Debby, and that you will be able to volunteer your time once it's open. I love the Book of Esther. Hope your Bible study prep and execution of the lessons will be blessed!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. I'm excited to be able to help.
DeleteEveryone is busy in your house!
ReplyDeleteWe try to stay involved. That's the beauty of retirement.
DeleteThe pregnancy center is a wonderful thing! Good on you and your husband for volunteering! I love the scarf.
ReplyDeleteI haven't officially began but by summer I hope.
DeleteHi, I am so happy about the pregnancy center, I love the little surprise on the scarf.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Dolly desserts at our local supermarket. I have not tried any.
Love, Carla
It was pretty good, just a bit too sweet for me. My husband enjoyed it.
DeleteWhat a beautiful scarf! (... and yes, I see it/him.)
ReplyDeleteWe after 3-weeks 'off', this morning our Bible study resumed "Thrive." I can't say Jennifer Cowart's my favorite, but everyone voted to continue another of her studies -- so I'm hoping for the best.
A nice three week break! Oh I’m sure you’ll enjoy it once you get into it more. Plus the good fellowship sure helps!
DeleteDolly Parton sure makes some good desserts. I love her chocolate cake. Haven't had peach cobbler in such a long time. I hope Brenda gets her house back in order. Sounds like a lot of working is being done. We are having constant rain, and today is like a slushy rain. The scarves are nice for all the volunteers at the pregnancy center. I was just thinking about Elizabeth and Mary's visit when I said the Rosary this afternoon. The Visitation is on the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. It's a lovely story.
ReplyDeleteThe other verses shown on the scarf are special as well. I hope the first week of January is kind to you. Are you supposed to get rain this week?
We’re in a flood watch again, but it’s for creeks. We had BIG wind all day yesterday - from Saturday night around 7 till Sunday evening. Crazy. It’s a very dark dreary day .
DeleteThank you for all your good works. May God bless you always.
ReplyDeleteThank you Victor -
DeleteFaith without works is dead! Ephesians 2:10
That is wonderful about the new pregnancy center and how your husband helps. And your bibles study - you are a busy giving family.
ReplyDeleteWell, when you don't have grandchildren, we have the time and still have a little bit left in the tank for being able to help out when needed.
DeleteWhat a special scarf!! Great news on the pregnancy center.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen.
DeleteThat is a lovely scarf and such a nice gift to be given. I hope the pregnancy center is up and running very soon.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I'm thinking it will be up by the end of Jan.
DeleteThe community coming together and providing a place for the sanctity of life.
ReplyDeleteLove the scarf with the baby..perfect.
Have a wonderful week and I'm glad that your BSF is starting up again. Esther will be a great study.
Sue
Since we're studying the Exile and Return, next week will be our last week and then one week in Haggai.
DeleteI am retired, too, but I'm really busy! That's typical, I guess.
ReplyDeleteWhat good news about the Pregnancy Center. Thank your husband for me for helping to rebuild it.
I am in BSF too and enjoying the book of Esther, too.
Happy New Year to you!
Willow I remember you mentioning that. A fellow BSFer! Yes the whole study of the Exile and return has been excellent!
DeleteSuch good news about the Pregnancy Centre.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thanks Jan for stopping by! 👍
DeleteThat pregnancy center sounds wonderful. That is nice that your husband is volunteering. That scarf is lovely. Hope your Bible study goes well. Yum on that cobber. I will pray for their house. I like the quote on volunteers. You have a good week too!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! So wonderful that so much money has been raised for pregnancy center, and what an incredible blessing it will be in the community. I loved the scarfs with the tiny baby, that was beautiful! Your new bible study sounds very interesting too, always wonderful to dive into the Word of God and learn new things! Homemade cobber is definitely the best. Blessings to you and your family in this new year!
ReplyDeleteSuch a worthwhile project and I love the scarf
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year we are getting a cold rain this evening
