Summer Evenings
Feel the cool breeze? Turn up your speakers...
I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely summer evening! I've got dinner simmering on the stove...
Tuesday evening, we visited the lake after dinner to enjoy the cooler evening air. The atmosphere was serene, with no one else around, creating an environment that felt almost private. We drove back to town and decided to stop at the local Dairy Queen for a soft-serve ice cream cone. Unfortunately, the chocolate dispenser was not functioning, a recurring issue. In the 17 years we’ve lived here, I’ve only had two chocolate soft serve cones due to this ongoing problem. My cone was enjoyable, but the portion size seemed inadequate. Considering the price, it might have been a better value to purchase two containers of ice cream instead.
While there, a little dry lightning storm accompanied by a temperature drop and wind came through. We watched as lightning struck from cloud to cloud, sometimes making a direct ground landing. They recorded 11,965 lightning strikes! It was not surprising that by Wednesday daybreak, we heard the familiar sounds of planes and helicopters flying above our homes, on their way to surveying the Shasta and Trinity mountains and making their early morning water drops due to several spot fires that had developed overnight.
There was always something about those summer rainstorms when we would travel back to Tennessee, Indiana, or Ohio as children, with that tantalizing blend of earthy aromas and the sound of thunder. Since we don't have summer rains here (except the mountains). We miss out, but I figure God knows what He is doing when He created our varying climates.
Yesterday, I visited the new grocery store nearby and purchased some watermelon. After that, I went to Costco to buy beef dinner franks and sesame seed rolls for my dogs. They're doing chicken wings. We plan to arrive around 3 PM to enjoy some games, which are a favorite activity for Sara. This morning, she texted me to say that they had a stove fire last night and now a new electric stove is in her future. Yet she still wishes to host the gathering on the 4th.

Tomorrow marks a full week since I’ve been tethered to this EKG monitor, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the journey! The first couple of days were a breeze, but then I encountered an unexpected challenge: a raw spot developing under one of the monitor modules in a rather sensitive area. Ouch! To make matters worse, the clip that attaches to my waist has become my nemesis. With this heat, I've developed a rash from the metal rubbing against my skin. Just what I need.
Oh, and let’s not forget about the charging - this thing needs to be juiced up twice a day! At first, it felt like a major inconvenience, but I’ve come to appreciate the break it gives my skin. It’s a win in disguise!
I’ve become obsessed with monitoring my blood pressure, taking readings at all hours of the day per the doctor's instructions. I can’t help but notice the fluctuations that start to drive me a little nuts, even though I feel perfectly fine. A side effect of my new routine? A bruise on my upper left arm from the BP cuff.
Honestly, am I just dealing with sensitive skin, or is this a common issue that occurs as we age? Either way, I’ve made some interesting observations. My BP seems to run low in the morning, but after my beloved coffee, it spikes up to 135/79. The rest of the day, it generally stabilizes. I can’t shake the feeling that my anxiety is contributing to those higher numbers.
Thanks for letting me vent a bit and get it off my chest 👈 a little pun there. My husband insists I’m just being obsessive, which I admit I can be. Ugh! I guess I’ll embrace my quirks - I have a week more to go.
That's all I have for you. My dinner is ready, and I'm hungry.
Until next time,
Debby

Well, I would think Dairy Queen has enough money to buy a new chocolate machine! I hope you have a great 4th. Hey, you can buy a Fitbit for relatively cheap, and it tracks your heart rate, exercise, even sleep. I got one a few months ago and like it.
ReplyDeleteI bought a smart watch to be delivered tomorrow.
DeleteHaving to concentrate on one aspect of personal health can be counterproductive. I hope your ordeal is soon over and not to be repeated.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteOh wow, thanks for the video!!! I so enjoyed that breeze (grin). Ugh on the monitor, I can off no help in that department...sigh...wishing you a lovely 4th of July (well, try to have one.) smiles
ReplyDeleteIt was a good one.
DeleteI had to wear one of those monitors before and I know they are no fun. UGH on all of those lightning strikes. They warn us here of storms way ahead of time because of all of the boaters out on the river. Being aluminum they need to be off the water. Happy July 4th. Janice
ReplyDeleteIt may well be that anxiety and stress raises your number.
ReplyDeleteOur Dairy Queen has the same issue with soft serve chocolate.
Your new grocery store looks nice.
Happy 4th!
I'm going to have to check and see if there's not a DQ nearby. It's been years!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on your monitor. We check Tom's BP just about every day and yes, those numbers' fluctuations can be alarming.
That was a lot of lightning. Glad they check things out after something like that, with the fire danger.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are soon done with the EKG machine, those things are hard on skin.
Hang in there with your pesky monitor, Debby, and have a glorious July 4th celebration. Blessings!
ReplyDeletesorry to hear about the stove fire and glad they are ok, phooey on having to purchase a new stove. the video is a place I would love to be right now. we are having bad thunder storms and inches of rain, 4 storms since 2 am today, I dislike lightning and fireworks and since we will get both today, not my holiday.
ReplyDeleteMy BP goes up with stress, bobs doctor was also my doctor years ago, I despise the man, he is not a good doctor, but bob continues to go there. I told my new doctor how my BP was always high when I saw him and she said, its call white coat symdrome, I said no, you have on a white coat and I am fine, its the fact I can't stand him. he never took a normal BP on me. bob likes him because he doesn't want a caring doctor, he wants one that doesn't doctor him, just gives his his RX.
oops mouth ran away again. I can only imagine having to live a normal life with the monitor and all you have to do with it, PLUS making brushes and rashes.
Good Morning Debby....You would think that after such a long time, they would be able to get the machine working. What a disappointment I'm sure. Speaking of ice cream, Sam and I went to a local restaurant which has a self serve ice cream machine....I could not allow myself to even try. The area was a total mess with melted ice cream all over the place. I'm like...clean it up or don't offer it. I know you will be glad to take off the monitor and find out the results...Praying that ALL is good. Wishing you all a fabulous day on this beautiful 4th of July... although things are not perfect, we are a Blessed Nation.
ReplyDeleteI thought of you when I heard about the storms in your area, hoping that the lightning wouldn't cause any issues.
ReplyDeleteHi, My dad got obsessed in taking his BP too. Then he had to take mine and got obsessed taking mine. Hee Hee.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about the stove fire and the fires in the mountains. Keeping California in my prayers.... for many reasons.
Wow, that's a lot of dry lightening glad the spotters got the fires out. Such a scary time of year in CA.
ReplyDeleteSorry your monitor is giving you irritations. One more week girlfriend...hang in there and things will calm down. Glad you are getting results for your trouble.
Thanks for the calming video. Enjoy your day..
HaHa..I misread your statement about buying hot dogs and then I read that you were getting sesame rolls for your dogs.. (I thought you were buying special rolls for your pets..) I haven't had my second cup of coffee yet..Need to clear the brain.. HaHa
Sue
May you feel the Lord's grace as you go through this heart monitor thing, and may your peace increase. I'm praying this for you!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a real bother having to wear the monitor.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a FITBIT but like Ginny my pedometer does all hers does too.
I have never tried chocolate soft serve.
ReplyDeleteBeing attached to a EKG monitor would be annoy but I guess it is a necessary and yeah it can become addictive checking ones bloody pressure at times
