May their Memory be a Blessing
There is a Jewish phrase that is often said when someone passes away -
"May their memory be a blessing."
This heartfelt tribute honors those who have passed away and expresses the hope that the life and legacy of the deceased will inspire and bless those who remember them.
Rooted in the richness of Jewish tradition, this expression emphasizes the lasting impact one person's life can have on future generations, reminding us that while they may be gone physically, their essence and values can continue to guide and uplift us.
On September 11, 2001, 2,977 lives were lost in a tragic event. In New York City, about 2,606 individuals perished when the Twin Towers fell. At the Pentagon, 125 military personnel and civilians died due to American Airlines Flight 77 crashing into the building, and 265 passengers and crew members were killed on the four hijacked planes.
Since the 9/11 attacks, over 8,200 people have died from related illnesses, with nearly 50,000 diagnosed with cancer.
May their Memory be a Blessing
Members of the Islamic militant group Ansar al-Sharia carried out a coordinated attack against the American Embassy in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012. The compound in Benghazi was attacked, resulting in the brutal deaths of both United States Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens and U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith. The group then launched a mortar attack against a CIA annex, killing two CIA contractors, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty, and wounding ten others.
When 9-11 rolls around, I always think of Benghazi. My tender heart cannot ever forget their sacrifice, as the rest of the country already has. 😢
May their Memory be a Blessing
A 31-year-old man who loved Jesus Christ and showed passion for the Truth was assassinated. I am still trying to come to terms with this tragic news; I only found out a few hours ago. We are all in shock. I feel very sad for his mother, siblings, and I can’t stop thinking about his young wife and their two small children.
Though his time on this earth was tragically brief, the instant he drew his last breath, he found himself enveloped in the everlasting embrace of His Heavenly Father.
May his Memory be a Blessing
Although this specific phrase is not explicitly present in the Bible, the underlying concept of commemorating and honoring those who have departed resonates deeply within biblical themes.
In Jewish customs, remembrance is a vital means of preserving the values and lessons of those we cherish, serving as a poignant reminder of the lasting impact of their existence.
