Springing into the Hodgepodge
1. Spring has officially sprung (in the northern hemisphere anyway)...did she roll in more like a lion or more like a lamb in your neck of the woods?
I'm writing this on Monday afternoon - the temperature is 82 degrees, with similar highs expected for Tuesday. However, the forecast for Wednesday indicates a significant drop in temperatures, potentially reaching the 50s and 60s, along with expected rain. This trend suggests that while March started off mild, it appears to be ending with more tempestuous weather conditions, meaning we're going out like a lion.
What needs more of your attention in terms of a good spring clean this year- your house or your garden/yard?
Both. We're waiting for the shipment of our new garage door to the contractor. In the meantime, we should order paint and start on the garage door trim, as repainting the house trim is a goal this year after procrastinating last year. The yard and gardening also need attention, and with summer approaching, I'll finally have some free time for home projects, including some interior painting I've needed to do.
2. What's put a spring in your step lately?
I've got a spring in my step all year, but it really amps up as summer gets closer! It just puts me in a great mood!
3. When you were a kid, what was the best snack to find in your lunchbox?
Getting a Hostess chocolate cupcake in my lunchbox was a rare treat but was my favorite.
They don't taste like they used to.
Mom would always cut up a pomegranate, a tasty snack I shared with my friends.
4. In what area of your life are you planting seeds?
"We are, therefore, Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God."
2 Corinthians 5:20
California is my home, where my heart truly resides. It is a place of connection, filled with everything I need to thrive. Its familiar landscapes inspire me daily, rich with the memories of my upbringing and the love of my family.
Would you consider living somewhere else?
No, but since we're playing a game, Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona stand out as favorable choices. These states offer a compatibility that I'm used to, making the transition easier. I'd be closer to my sons by vehicle.
Why or why not?
As I’ve expressed California is home, and I have no desire to call anywhere else home.
At 71 years of age, moving is no longer appealing to my husband or me. Reflecting on my parents' experience, they were once active in buying and selling homes and moving to different parts of the country. However, after one challenging cross-country move that involved professional movers, they decided against it in the future. Instead, they opted to sell most of their belongings, keeping only their prized possessions and purchased all new furniture and appliances for their new home. That is the only way I'd move. Have one big moving sale.
But it won't happen. We're just dreaming here...

Whenever my dog, Laydee, brings me the same toy, I can’t help but wonder if it’s her favorite or if she thinks it’s my favorite.
I’m happy, happy happy, to share some good news about Laydee's health!
The injection she received a couple of weeks ago has proven to be incredibly effective - Hallelujah! Laydee is undergoing treatment with Librela, a cutting-edge solution specifically designed to alleviate pain caused by osteoarthritis in dogs. This powerful monoclonal antibody (mAb) works by blocking nerve growth factors, effectively interrupting the pain signals.
Laydee is scheduled to receive a monthly injection as a key component of her treatment plan, and we are optimistic about her ongoing improvement. Typically, it requires two doses to attain the maximum therapeutic benefits. The significant progress observed after her first injection is encouraging. With each additional dose, we anticipate a further enhancement in her overall quality of life during her later years. She exhibits youthful energy similar to that of a puppy. Additionally, with the arrival of summer, she will have the opportunity to return to swimming, which is beneficial for her joint health.
That's it for this week's Hodgepodge.
I hope you'll join in. The more the merrier...
Debby

I am so happy the meds are working for Laydee! hugs sweet girl. We both love Florida, I lived in Savannah Ga, born there, moved to KY, back to Savannah but my heart loved central Florida.. we are way to old to move, unless its to a nursing home. I tried to get the rock I am married to, to move several times but he sits here and bemoans the fact we moved 40 miles south of St Pete and he misses it. we could have moved back anytime, but not now... if we had the money to have a summer/winter home, I would choose a mountain somewhere in north GA or Carolinas.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn’t be able to get my husband to move either.
DeleteI like the pic of Laydee and am happy that injection was helpful!
ReplyDeleteIt's still very cold here but just the anticipation of Spring makes me happy!
It’s coming…
DeleteI'm so happy to learn the Librela's already having a positive effect for Laydee!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I believe Alabama's my heart home -- just wish it hadn't taken me so long to realize it. I've heard of other families relocating with only their prize possessions; wish we'd done that, too. But hey, life's too short for regrets. Right?
Happy 'Podge' day!
It’s the only way to move.
DeleteYou’re right though - at our ages there should be no regrets.
I'm so happy that Laydee is doing so well! I hear you about living in California. Michigan has always been my home and where my grandsons and most of my family reside. Although the winters get tougher every year, we have no desire to leave permanently.
ReplyDeleteGreat news about Laydee!
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful news about Laydee! I hope the medicine will help her joints heal more and more. And no, I don't want to move from where I am unless I'm forced to in the future. Blessings, Debby!
ReplyDeleteWe've moved a lot (with the job) in our married life, so declaring a place 'home' is complicated. I've called many places home, but in this season we're happy to be in a beautiful spot close to our daughters and their families. Our families of origin are all spread out but we do make the effort to see them at various times throughout the year. That's easier to do now that we're retired. I'm so glad your pup is doing better!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you have a good report to share with us regarding Laydee.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your California living story. :-) Wisconsin is my home too, and I do not plan to leave it, unless some crazy happens. Both of our boys enjoy Wisconsin too, they both like winter. :-)
Well hopefully the rain and cool weather won't last long. Good luck with the garage door. Good for you have spring in your step all the time. Pomegranates are so good. So glad you are happy living in California. It does have so much beauty to offer. That is wonderful news about Laydee. Sounds like something I could use for my osteoarthritis.
ReplyDeleteI guess Dave and I are firmly planted in California, our one son is here also and that's the real reason we moved from Pacifica, CA to Rocklin, CA.
ReplyDeleteBeing in the later years of our lives and being very happy where we are I don't think we will go anywhere except to Glory.
We only wish our other son was down here too instead of Oregon, but , that's the way it is...
So happy your sweet pup is doing better on the meds. That's a win/win for all of you.
Hope your garage door get to your house soon and happy painting.
Sue
So happy that this is helping Laydee. We never want to see our pets in pain. California is a very nice state and I know my kiddos enjoyed living there for the 4 years they were there. I think that if we HAD to move, I would choose, Colorado or Easter Tennessee. But, I do love all the tall PIne trees we have around here. I know you are excited about your new garage door. Spring has Sprung and it really is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteEveryone loves dogs - so do I - glad she is doing well on the medicine too. So, you like summer - not me - my least favorite season. Hostess cupcakes - I remember them - so they taste different now. I remember pomegranates too. I feel the same about GA - it is home now, and it would be so hard to move and start over.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news about Laydee!!!! I love those cupcakes, and I think you are right. Some things don't taste like they used to. I bet if we looked at the ingredients from decades ago and compared them with today's, they would be so different.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to hear good news for Laydee!! And, those warm temps already! My brother lives in California and said his temps this week are about 16 degrees above normal. Hopefully they will even out before summer actually arrives - or it really will be hot! But, for now, enough your lovely March!!
ReplyDeleteHurray for Laydee! I would have been thrilled to find a hostess cupcake in my lunch! Wow 82 sounds nice right now. God's Word has the best seeds to plant! Happy Spring to you!
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful news about Laydee! I know that makes your heart happy too! Iknow what you mean about not moving again at our age. We are older than you by several years, and I hate the thought of ever moving again, but if our kids ever decide to move away from this area, we would probably move to be closer to them. But like you, if that happened, I think I would have to LET GO of a ton of stuff and not move all this family museum with us. I've dreamed about having a mountain cabin and just having cabin style furnishings and decor and leave all this stuff behind somewhere. But, again, the older we get the less likely that is to happen. Oh, spring is definitely here in Florida. It is 84 degrees now, and the mornings are still fairly nice and cool, but the afternoons are starting to heat up. It's been really lovely, but we need some rain. Oh, pomegranate for a snack? I guess I never had that before so I really can't imagine it. Now, a hostess filled cupcake I can imagine, but a pomegranate? Hmmm, I guess I'd have to try it to find out what it's like. They aren't that common here. We would have oranges and tangerines and apples for fruit snacks. I hope you have a lovely rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteI liked these answers and the photos and it is good to read that Laydee is doing well
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear the Laydee is going well. :)
ReplyDeleteWe live where we live mostly because of the wonderful sunrises and sunsets we get. Though Harvey has always lived in Saskatchewan and it is doubtful that I could get him to live any where else.
ReplyDeleteGreat news about Laydee.
God bless.
Glad Laydee is getting better. This was a great pic of her. I have lived in Michigan all my life. There have been times I wanted to live in both Ohio and Kentucky, but just thought about it. If I move anywhere now it will be more North of where I am now probably. I like country living. Janice
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful news about Laydee! Glad she is doing so much better. Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteOur weather has improved as the month has gone on which I am really happy about.
ReplyDeleteI used to love pomegranates as a child but I haven't had one for years!
I am glad Laydee is doing better and the treatment is helping. What a relief for you.
So glad that procedure worked on Laydee. Oh my gosh, Hostess chocolate cupcakes! I still eat them today! You're right, it was a rare treat in my house too, and getting them in the lunch bag was something special. Pomegranates were rare at my house growing up, but I used to put one in Nel's stocking every year. That California map is a neat one. I wouldn't want to live in Nevada or Arizona, but I've always heard Oregon was nice. I hope you get some rain. It was a windy day today! More than I've ever seen! Blew things over.

Glad to hear your pup is responding to the meds. I don't have my own pet but love my nieces and nephews dogs so much. I get my unconditional love from them as often as I can.
ReplyDelete3. I was a big fan of the Hostess Snowball. Marshmellow has always been one of my favorite treats. Love pomegranates as well. There are two trees out at my folks house so i get my fill every fall.
5. Born and raised California as well. My folks and two of my 4 grandparents also born and raised in California. From the time I was a child I alway thought I was lucky to be in California as it is so special. We are an ocean state we have so much in diversity in land. Us in Northern Ca can go to the mountains and snow ski, lakes and rivers to swim, ski and camp. A short drive to visit one of the most famous and interesting cities (S.F.) We have the tallest trees and trees that are so wide you can have a dance on its stump. It is hard for me to think of growing up anywhere else.
HaHa... you got it right! I know I am weird but it was fun to capture the photo at just the right moment.. (:0)

It's that exciting time to look forward to all the outdoor activities and home projects. Also, Hostess cupcakes in a lunchbox were definitely a treat. It’s funny how things change over the years, but the memories of those sweet moments stick with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading my new blog post, and have a nice Friday.
