Tuesday 4 ~ Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home
Be it ever so humble there is no place like home .
Let's talk about homes okay?
I thought I would join in for the first time because I love the theme of Home Sweet Home.
1. In some places people name their homes or properties. What would you name your home and why? If you would not name it, why wouldn't you?
We refer to our home as Twin Cedars. A beautiful reminder of resilience and growth. This Incense Cedar, lovingly planted by my dad when they were just little twigs, grew into two majestic trunks - thus a twin cedar.
Throughout the years...

The Twin Cedars are clearly the centerpiece of our yard. It has transformed into a vibrant habitat, attracting the lively chatter of woodpeckers and other birds as well and more recently the loud majestic presence of ravens.
2. Are you more of a romantic or a pragmatist when it comes to your home or apartment's decor and color?
I'm a pragmatist - I have a practical approach to things. I prefer a simple style and try to remove unnecessary items to avoid clutter. I enjoy a clean and organized appearance.
3. Do you have enough room in your home? Storage space, kitchen cabinets? What would you add or subtract from your home?
I'd be concerned that if I had more storage space, I might start keeping things again that I worked hard to throw away! I could really use some better ways to keep my things organized. Other than that, I'm happy with my home.
4. Is your place really home sweet home ? Would it be hard to leave it ? Are you firmly rooted in your abode or would you move if a better opportunity came your way?
This place is truly special to me, and leaving would be really tough because of all the memories here. Although I didn’t grow up in this house, my parents chose it as their final retirement home, and they both passed away here. My dad planted trees that still give us cool shade in the summer and beautiful colors in the fall. My mom's roses bloom every year, and we love spending time on the covered patio just outside our back door - where there's also a lovely waterfall and pond that my dad created. For the past 17 years, this has been my home. About two years after moving here, both of my sons followed from our hometown in the Bay Area. One lives just a couple of miles away, and the other is about six miles from me.
I'm as deeply rooted as God will allow!

Twin Cedars is a perfect name. I love that your Dad planted them and how beautiful they have grown. What a special place to live with those memories of your parents around you.
ReplyDeleteIt is special and even while we have decorated and made some changes through the 17 years, that twin cedar continues to grow!
DeleteEnjoy reading your answers. Our house and property is called Happy Trails. Two bloggers named it when we first moved here and was trying to come up with a name. :). I've lived in many homes and I've loved every one!
ReplyDeleteOh that’s a cute name. I loved the house I raised by boys in - lived there 22 years!
DeleteThe Cedars are amazing! Straight from the bible! Is this adorable blue house yours, or found on the internet?
ReplyDeleteNo that house was part of the Tuesday 4. I could be tempted with that little beauty!
DeleteI enjoyed hearing your answers, Debby. You are fortunate to have your parents' old house. Ours was eventually sold after my parents died. I don't have a name for my home, but home is my favorite place to be. It's a small house, but quaint, and I'm thankful for it every day. Your front yard with the white fence is charming, and your grass is so green. I am on a big corner lot, so using that much water to water the lawn is not an option for me. So, it sits, and when it gets too long, I get a landscaper over here to mow and spruce up. Your cedars must provide lots of shade for you. I'm glad you chose "the home" for this post. It truly is a place of calm, protection, shelter, and love.

Through the years we have cut out most of the grass. Just enough for the dog. My parents had a beautiful sod lawn. Just too much water!
DeleteWonderful answers. I call our home The Homestead.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
That’s nice especially since you live on a prairie
DeleteDanny and I have often said to one another that the only way we would leave our home is if it was absolutely necessary. We love our woodlands and relative peace and quiet where we can feel God's presence daily. We know we have been blessed in so many ways, and are grateful for what we have been given. We jokingly refer to our property as the "Orlando Compound," but need to think of a better name - LOL! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI love that name!
DeleteI enjoyed reading your post and all the pictures. That is nice that you are still connected to your parents!
ReplyDeleteIt’s comforting
DeleteYour home name is just perfect! We have two different words for our area. One we live in Oak Grove because we have lots of oak trees here and the other the Blue Water because of our amazing blue river. I wish I had more storage...but I guess it means I cannot be a hoarder. Janice
ReplyDeleteMy subdivision is called Ravenwood because we have so many ravens here.
DeleteI enjoyed reading the story of your home and I love what you've named it.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I never thought about naming my blog that!
DeleteI have lived in 30 homes, in my 80 years, I never lived in a home more that 3 to 5 years, not even my parents, I moved out at age 19 and we had lived in 6 homes in 19 years. the govt took the house I moved out of and made a road.. the answer is, if I had a place like yours, I would name the home.. but have never named one. we do name our neighbors homes.
ReplyDeleteHouse of 7 cars, Boys House, Columbian House, Motorcyle House, Dane House, Idiots House, Hoarders house you get the picture, we don't know their names, that is how we discuss what they are doing. the one right now that is behind us and 2 stories tall is getting a new roof, 5 months after Milton put trees down on it. we call it The Two Story House because it is the only one for miles around us
That is so funny! We do that too.
DeleteOh Debby, I love the legacy of your twin cedars! It took me a long time to realize where I truly belong (here in Alabama). Not so deeply rooted, but happy. "As God will allow" ... that's perfect!
ReplyDeleteSweet Home Alabama! My brother and his wife moved to Alabama from Tennessee to raise their family. I’ve been there a few times.
Delete..new to your blog..
ReplyDeleteour home is Haven Haus (a refuge in the storms of life).
it's snuggled in a tiny forest village in the lost sierra..
the house is larger than we wanted and we're considering
the possibility of a smaller home at some point.
Nice to meet you Sherry. Oh that sounds like a beautiful name. I can almost picture your home.
DeleteBeautiful post
