1. What's an adult problem nobody prepared you for?
Adulthood certainly brings its share of challenges and problems, and it's natural to wonder if we're ever truly prepared for them. For this question, I will zero in on how quickly time passes. Time is a commodity, and it is so easy to waste it if we get caught up in too many frivolous activities that amount to nothing. I'm sure I was told about it, but it went in one ear and out the other.
In our youth, we often carry an optimistic belief that time is an endless resource, stretching out before us like an uncharted horizon. Days feel long, filled with myriad possibilities, and the future appears to be an abundant tapestry we can weave at our leisure. However, as the years accumulate, that perception shifts dramatically. The minutes and hours slip through our fingers like grains of sand, leaving us breathless at how swiftly life unfolds. Each birthday serves as a reminder of this relentless march, reminding us to cherish moments before they become mere memories.
2. How tuned in are you to all the recent food related health news?
My middle son is a dietitian for the elderly in a Care facility. I affectionately refer to him as Foodie on this blog. He frequently discusses food, its quality, health, and additives. He loves to eat, but at times, he can be a buzz kill when you're wanting to eat a hot dog!
Have you gotten rid of your scratched cookware?
It’s really just a matter of common sense that when your cookware gets scratched, it’s time to replace it.
Did you pay attention to food additives before they made the news?
I was always cautious about food dyes and additives when my boys were young in the 70's and 80's. I breastfed and made my own baby food.
What's one healthy eating/cooking/food shopping habit you need to adopt?
My son goes with me to the grocery store a few times each month. While we're there, we review food labels, and he suggests healthier options. I may or may not take his advice. As a result, I've started paying closer attention to the labels and making more informed food choices.
3. What's getting worse and worse as you get older? How about better and better?
As I grow older, I'm finding it frustrating to realize that there are things I used to do without a second thought that have become more difficult.
For the Better? I've noticed that strangers are really kind to me. I often encounter those who go out of their way to help me, such as opening doors without me even asking. - it must be my white hair. I often receive warm smiles from people, and I hear them use sweet names like "Dear." I've heard that smiling can change the world, and while I wouldn't go that far in making such a proclamation, I truly believe it has the power to make someone's day a little brighter. When you smile at someone, it often encourages kindness and a smile in return.
* Only Jesus can change the world.
4. Are you more of an indoor person or an outdoor person? Elaborate.
I really enjoy spending time outside, but the hot weather sometimes makes it difficult to be outdoors in the afternoons. So, I stay inside where it's nice and cool and do all my outside stuff before noon.
We're also dealing with wildfires, which bring a lot of smoke. Early this morning, I had to cut my usual walk short because the smoke was so thick that it was difficult to breathe. I don't like breathing in smoke. I’ll have to dig out my N95 masks if I want to go for a walk while the smoke is around.
5. If you had an expert personal assistant today, what would you have them do?
Okay, a personal assistant, not a maid - a big difference.
I would have her call my dentist to reschedule my August appointment due to a cardiologist appointment I can’t miss. Other than that, I’m good.
At one point, I worked as a personal assistant. I enjoyed helping with errands, and it was nice to get paid well for it.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
We're currently dealing with some wildfires here in Shasta County. Thankfully, many of these fires are in areas that have burned before, which helps slow their spread. Fortunately, there haven't been any losses of life or homes since the fires are mostly in tough, mountainous regions. The largest fire so far is known as the Green Fire, located approximately 8 miles from Montgomery Creek, and it has burned around 2,548 acres.
We are expecting dry lightning in the weather forecast, so I'm hoping there won't be any more lightning strikes.
Thank you for visiting!
May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
Debby

I like your thoughts on time. As I get older, I realize more and more how quickly it goes and how valuable it is.
ReplyDeleteI detest wasting time. One reason I got off social media. It’s been 5 years since I left it behind and I couldn’t believe how much more quality time I gained.
DeleteI was reading through your post and noticed you would have your personal assistant reschedule an appointment for you. That made me remember I also need to reschedule a doctor's appointment. I made myself a note, then thought about how YOU were MY assistant today!
ReplyDeleteHa ha that’s great!
DeleteHello Friend,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your #1. I too shared about time.
I would like to visit your son, I have many a question about nutrition. ;-)
Seed oils are a topic in our house at this time.
Sending prayers regarding the fires.
Carla
Seed oils are in many prepackaged foods. I can’t tell you how many times I put pre-packaged food back in the shelves due to the ingredients. For the most part, our food has become garbage.
DeleteWe read labels, too, Debby, and almost exclusively buy organic when we shop. I'm thrilled to see those dangerous dyes disappearing from our foods. Oh, yes, and time does go flying by, especially now that we're older. Blessings to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteI believe there’s about 20 or so fruits and vegetables you should always buy organic. Living in California we’re blessed with local produce year round. I buy local meat and dairy products.
DeleteI was told about food dyes when Foodie was a toddler and was hyperactive. The red food dyes and of course sugar. He also had major food allergies and lactose intolerance. That’s when I had to start checking the food we ate.
I need to some time jump in and join this hodgepodge. Very interesting to read everyone's answers. What I have found is that most of the time we all have similar answers. How nice it would be to have a dietician to help me... Have a wonderful Day..
ReplyDeleteIt’s nice and I appreciate it but I still do my own thing. If someone told me cardboard was great for me, I still wouldn’t eat it. But he plants the seeds.
DeleteDebby, I can't remember the name of the camp but it is in Viola. I think the name may have changed since it was just bought by a church. Maybe "something Pines" The camp has been there for many years. Its where our granddaughter was married 3 years ago.
ReplyDeleteSue
Oh that’s the new Elevate Camp formerly named Lassen Pines just before the entrance to Lassen National park.
DeleteThere are many Christian/ Church camps around there.
Yes, I have noticed that with each week, time is flying by faster and faster. Oh my gosh, I hope you get rain!
ReplyDeleteWe won’t get rain till October when our rainy season starts.
DeleteOh, your son Foodie and my son Scott could be brothers. They sound a lot alike. Although Scott isn't in food service any longer, he spent many years as a cook in many different kinds of restaurants, and one year at a Yoga Retreat Center, where he had to learn how to cook vegan dishes. He taught himself online and learned a lot about "proper" dietary/eating habits. He often spends time talking about all the things that aren't good for us these days, and even doesn't like to use the microwave anymore. I sometimes have to just roll my eyes at him. LOL. I would like a personal assistant to clean my house on a regular basis, and also do some landscaping and maintenance of our yard. I am sorry to hear about the wildfires in your region. I pray they don't spread, and also that the smoke will not become a real issue for you. I know how bad it gets here when we can smell smoke from the controlled burns in the national forest, and I wouldn't want to live any closer to them. I enjoyed your answers today. Have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteBoy they really could be brothers. My son has always been in the food industry. Funny I too, roll my eyes 👀 when he goes on and on and mine also talks about the microwave too.
DeleteThe older I have got the more I have realised how time passes so quickly!
ReplyDeleteIt must be helpful having a son who knows his stuff about food health.
That is good that strangers are helpful when you are out and about. It makes me feel better about the world.
Oh gosh, what a worry about the wildfires. Stay safe.
Because of him, I know more but I still do what I want.
DeleteI've always paid attention to labels, but do so more carefully these days. It will be interesting to see where this goes with so many companies removing additives and dyes. I think we're more mindful of the passing of time as we age, and we know not to waste it. Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteIt’s funny that the son who had all the food allergies as a baby and toddler is the one who now informs me of the food.
DeleteI don't really listen to all the health news. It changes so often! I just try to eat healthy and eat all things in moderation. It's done me well for all of my 74 years so far.
ReplyDeleteI've used Revere ware for many many years. They stay like new!! I do keep the copper bottoms shiny too :)
Funny I have Revere Ware, too. I need new handles though and saw on Amazon to order replacement handles.
DeleteThat’s what I was raised by - everything in moderation.
Yes, that's what I was going to call it but I wasn't sure. Elevate its a really nice camp. So thankful that it wasn't burned last year. It sure came close.
ReplyDeleteSue
We were just by there a week or so ago on our way to Lassen. You can’t help but notice it.
DeleteI so understand your thoughts about #1. Wishing you a beautiful evening my friend.
ReplyDeleteTime seems to pass by so very quickly as I age. I don't think it is because I am doing more, perhaps it is because I seem to be slowing down.
ReplyDeleteWhile a smile might not change the world, I believe taking the time to smile at others could change their lives.
God bless.
"I may or may not take his advice" .... that, and "buzz kill" had me chortling out loud!
ReplyDeleteI so love the way you have of expressing what's in my heart (re: #1, Paragraph #2). Would I have listened? Probably not, but it's reassuring to know I'm not alone.
I agree with you on time. I do read labels. I do pay attention to news - but I always make decisions for myself.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to read that strangers are really nice to you!
ReplyDeleteFood, so important. All stages of life.
And I'm over here in Pennsylvania where we seem to be getting way too much rain. I really wish there was a way to send it over to California to help the wildfires. If only. I try to be self conscious when it comes to healthier eating but I'm not as good with it as I could be.
ReplyDeleteThe older get the faster time flies by, I don't think of myself as a time waster but at times I fill in time by scrolling through either Facebook or an online shopping site
