Tuesday 4 - Autumn Nights

I'm linking up with the Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4...

Autumn Nights

1. Does your life go along in the same way all year or do things change with the seasons?

I'm not fond of monotony and prefer some variety, so we occasionally mix up our routine a little and enjoy our little traditions... During the colder months, we enjoy taking a stroll after dinner, which we skip in the summertime due to the heat. I love the feeling of coming home to a cozy and warm house after a fall walk.

2. Do you have a favorite meal on the chilly night?

Chili or homemade soup - warm bread or rolls.

3.  Do you have a snack while you watch TV or read?

For the most part, I try to avoid between-meal snacks  (except ice cream, which is my weakness)

4. Do you have a fireplace in your home?

No. I grew up with a fireplace in every home until I relocated to this one. I no longer miss the task of cleaning it out.

We have always enjoyed a fire on Friday evenings, depending on the weather conditions - just add a blanket and we're all cozy!

Autumn has always been my preferred season. I always feel that surge of excitement when it's officially Fall, as it's when all of my senses come alive in celebration.

The breathtaking view of leaves transitioning from lush greens to brilliant shades of gold, amber, and crimson, each one clinging gracefully to the branches as if they are reluctant to let go; the soothing sound of a bonfire crackling and popping, casting a warm glow; the sweet, inviting aroma of spiced apple cider wafting through the crisp autumn air, promising comfort and warmth; the decadent taste of freshly baked pumpkin pie, with its rich spices and velvety texture melting indulgently in my mouth; and the embrace of a soft, cozy blanket enveloping me by the fire, creating a sanctuary of warmth and solace in the cool evening air.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you truly have a beautiful Autumn night.

Debby

  1. I love your description of fall here! I've been to the Shasta Cascade region where you live. It is beautiful there. I used to live in Vancouver, WA. Thanks for your visit.

    1. Oh yes, Vancouver WA is nice. Been through there on 1-5 many times but never stopped to visit. I think Fall is beautiful everywhere in its own way for that particular area.

  2. What a great picture you paint of fall. Homemade chili is my favorite in Fall! Thank you for joining in!

    1. I think chili is the number one favorite on a crisp autumn evening!

  3. Our evenings are pretty much the same through all the seasons. Except we sit out on the porch a lot in summer.
I eat the same things year round pretty much.
We have a gas fire place but rarely use it. It just too hot with it on.
I'm sure you know I have my ice cream most evenings. Not a lot just a cup.

    1. That’s nice you can sit out in the summer. Too doggone hot plus we face south. We Love ice cream too but we don’t measure it out. We demolish a half gallon in about a week with just the 2 of us.

  4. Ummm, yummm, ice cream is my downfall. I love it in any season. Caramel , thin mint , hot fudge !!!
    darn ... now I'm drooling.
Love chili but not much for Dave so we rarely have it. Now I want that too.
Our sweet gum tree is finally getting some color so it feels like Fall. Guess we will have another spritz of rain this weekend. The yard sure could use it.

    1. Oh easy - ice cream is for any season! My favorites are chocolate mint, strawberry cheesecake, chocolate, vanilla with chocolate syrup… now I’m drooling.🤤
These 80 degrees have been nice but we do need our rain now. I like that it rains a little and then it’s dry and back and forth until the big winter storms get here. Mt Shasta and Mt Lassen have snow which is always a welcome sight in the Fall. My sweet gums haven’t changed yet but some in the neighborhood have.
      Have a nice evening Sue.

  5. Autumn does not last too long here so most is taken up with harvesting and processing. I do perhaps try read or watch more non fiction type things, and I pull out more of the old stick to the ribs meals.

    God bless.

    1. Your harvesting and process is time consuming work but well worth it when winter comes.

  6. I love your description of the fall evenings at your house. Sounds like what I'd love too. I used to eat ice cream, but now prefer yogurt with some granola on top for my snack. It seems to digest better than ice cream. We just got home from the mountains where we enjoyed some perfect fall weather. Back to Florida, where it is still quite warm, but better than in summer. We can't go out much in the summer here either...just too hot and humid. Soups and chili sound good. Yes, it's about that time again! Happy Fall Evenings!

    1. Hey Pam - long time no hear from. Glad you had a terrific time in the mountains with your family. We’ve been in the low 80’s this past week which to me is perfect. But our first winter storm is on its way for this weekend. Fun!

  7. I love the word picture you painted of Autumn!
I made soup today for a Harvest Festival at church tomorrow night and chili is on my weekend menu. It's gotten much colder and those things are sounding good!

    1. I made a potato soup this week but haven’t done a big pot of vegetable soup yet. Maybe this weekend because we’re getting our first winter storm and I’m pretty excited about it!!!

  8. No fireplace here either though I do put one on streaming with no adverts. Very pretty to read to or daydream.

  10. Your descriptions of your impressions of fall could have mirrored my own, Debby. Oh, the coziness, cooler temps, warm soups and hot chili, and the indescribable beauty of the changing leaves. All fill my heart with thankfulness for the life the Lord has given me. Blessings, my friend!

    1. As I drove to Bible study this morning, the countryside was so pretty with the morning sun shining through the trees giving them a golden glow. It was stunningly beautiful. 🤩 Fall really is a treasure!

  15. Chili with saltines is my go to for cold weather and I only had one fireplace and had a love/hate relationship with it, loved to look and feel after it was going but not building or cleaning up the mess... if the fireplace comes with a maid, bring it on. of course here it would require the AC set on 65 ha ha

    1. I like it with saltines too! Sometimes I do corn muffins because my husband likes it but I’m fine with the crackers.
We’re in between the heat and AC right now. It won’t last - our first winter rain storm is expected this weekend.

  16. All things bright and beautiful -- thank you, Autumn! We've only a faux electric fireplace (no mess), but I wouldn't say "no" if someone wanted to build me a fire pit.

    1. I’ll take a faux one but since ours bit the dust a few years ago, my husband now has this huge recliner - not enough room.

  18. In the hot weather I walk right after breakfast, and hurrying out the door is annoying. In the fall I enjoy an afternoon or early evening walk, as long as I'm still home before it gets dark outside.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I do that too in the summer. I don’t mind cold walks in the morning as long as the wind isn’t blowing.
