2. Your favorite fall fabric-denim, flannel, tweed, corduroy, tartan, polar fleece, leather? Do you own something made with your favorite fall fabric?
I never thought of a favorite fall fabric before. I always keep my life simple and streamlined, so my fabrics mostly stay the same. If it gets cold, I add layers. I have some lightweight sweaters and sweatshirts, and I can't stand bulky clothing.
3. According to Everyday Health here are ten healthy fall foods- apples (flavonoids may improve brain health), pears (for heart friendly fiber), cranberries (helps your body fight oxidative stress) winter squash (for eye health), pumpkin (another great source of Vitamin A), leeks (an anti-inflammatory food), brussel sprouts (full of fiber and anti-oxidants), sweet potatoes (loaded with Vit A and C), parsnips (keep your bones healthy with Vit K), and broccoli (may help prevent cancer). How many on the list do you eat on a regular basis? Which one is your favorite? Which one gets a big no thanks from you?
I eat apples, pears, cranberries, pumpkin, leeks and broccoli.
I don't care for sweet potatoes.
4. Tell us about the last time (or a recent time) you experienced a wave of nostalgia?
I always get waves of nostalgia. I'm a very sentimental person.
Today is my youngest son's 40th birthday, which always smacks me with nostalgia.
5. Sept. 22nd was National Daughter's Day. Like mother, like daughter...does this idiom ring true for you? You may answer in terms of your own role as a daughter or, if you have daughters, then your role as a mother of daughters.
As I mature, I notice myself doing certain things that strongly resemble my mother's actions, but deep down, I am nothing like my mom.
Did you know the saying, Like Mother, like daughter, comes from Ezekiel 16;44.
You have to read it in its full context.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I write my Hodgepodges on Tuesdays because my Wednesdays are typically very busy.
I'm facilitating a women's discussion group focused on the book of Revelations as part of our Bible Study Fellowship. The study itself is going great, but I'm struggling to manage the demanding schedule and tasks of the leader meetings and the extra responsibilities that accompany them.
Tomorrow (or today) , they have scheduled emergency drills before the ladies arrive at 11 a.m. These drills will encompass protocols for handling an active shooter situation, procedures for lockdown, preparedness for earthquakes, fire safety measures, and protocols for dealing with medical emergencies.
The reality is that we have to prepare for active shooters and lockdowns. It's a sad reflection of the world we live in, but I'm grateful that the admin. take safety seriously and are proactive about it. While the chances of a violent incident in my area are slim, I understand the importance of being prepared for any kind of emergency.
It's good to know this.
Thanks for dropping by.
Until next time,
Debby
I've never thought of Fall fabric either.
ReplyDeleteI need to start doing some Fall decorating now that it's actually here!
I hope your drills go ok today.
The drills were fine. All around good information.
Delete#3 - we eat all of those, but less of parsnips and leeks. It just depends on when we can find them. Heck, we eat broccoli in breakfast casseroles. Our pie pumpkin harvest may not be that big this year, but I puree them and freeze for all year cooking and baking. We used to make a pumpkin sage mac and cheese. It's just too much for us to bake a 9 x 13 anymore, but it was delicious.
ReplyDeleteI love broccoli. That’s different - the pumpkin sage Mac and cheese. Maybe you could free it.
DeleteGood morning Debby...As I read all the questions and your answers, I realized that my answers would pretty much be the same as yours, with the exception that I do love sweet potatoes and I am my mother made over (which is a true honor). Happy Birthday to Navy. Hope you all can celebrate his special day with a nice lunch or dinner. Happy Wednesday.....today is a great day!
ReplyDeleteWe haven’t connected yet since he’s at work.
DeleteI’m having a great Wednesday! It’s about 10 degrees cooler.
I eat all those food except no parsnips or leeks, not sure what a leek is. I love all of them but digestive system doesn't, the ones I eat that cause no problems are strawberries, mangs, all berries both blue and raspberry. apples I eat cooked but not raw.
ReplyDeletesad that you have to practice for what to do, but it has been around all my life, in the late fifites/early 60's living in Savannah, we had drills on what do and where to go if Cuba bombed us, we practiced hiding under desks, where to take shelter, which bus to get on, for which shelter, we could not go home. in the wild west, they was always the chance of getting caught in a gun battle, further back in time, you could be thrown to the lions.. some people are just full of hate, always have been always will be, but now there are billions more people to do it. as a child I was afraid of moonshiners in KY,
all this to say, life is the same but different
I remember in San Francisco having drills for earthquakes and for nuclear bombs. We wore dog tags with our blood type on it and we were grouped by blood type. I still have my old dog tags!
DeleteHello, I participated in two active shooter trainings. I learned A LOT!!! It is a good skill to know, even if it is not an active shooter, but someone with a knife or that is simply going CRAZY!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Autumn,
Carla
You’re right. It’s a very good skill and can be useful anywhere. It went smooth.
DeleteI thought I was the only person who didn't care for sweet potatoes! I love tartan and the others, but I'm reluctant to wear them for fear I'll resemble a middle linebacker for the NY Giants.
ReplyDeleteSure is a sad reflection of the world we live in, that necessary drills occur. It's not just the Boy Scouts who need to "Be Prepared."
The sweet potato texture makes me gag!
DeleteHaha a middle linebacker! 🤣
My husband cannot stand sweet potatoes, so we never have them here. I've never thought of different fabrics in the fall, either. I wear my jeans year round and, like you, I layer as needed. Blessings, Debby!
ReplyDeleteI guess some of us are missing out - having never thought about Fall fabrics!
DeleteI do eat many of those fall foods but really don't like parsnips. I can take or leave squash too.
ReplyDeleteWow, on the safety drills. So important now but too, too sad that we have to even think about that.
I didn't know that the quote was from the bible. I looked it up and feel that the rest of the verse is too sad. I don't put my self in the rest of the verse. I do think I am a lot like my Mom and that's a good thing.
I'm very sentimental too so waves of nostalgia come over me quite often.
Glad BSF is going well but hang in there. Rest so you can do those extra things involved with it.
Sue
Glad you looked it up. Just a little trivia tidbit that might come to mind next time you hear the term, like mother, like daughter! And it doesn’t mean how we use it today.
DeleteBSF is going good and I enjoy my ladies. The drills went well.
I stopped working in public places before there was a need for an active shooter drill. Thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteThat’s good. This church that hosts the Bible study is a country church in the middle of some ranches. You just never know.
DeleteI never thought of having a favorite fall fabric either. But I do love denim and flannel.
ReplyDeletelol - yeah I guess we’ve really been missing out not have a favorite fall fabric. 😁
DeleteHi Debby, I love sweet potatoes with butter and cinnamon. I remember doing duck and cover as a child. I know there was the Cuban missile crisis going on while I was in grade school. I should ask my grands if they do active shooter drills. I will have to look up that Ezekiel verse. I know what you mean about doing to much. I did not go to my Tuesday morning class, but I am going to my Wed. evening class. Have a great rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteThis week in particular will be packed with commitments. I normally never schedule activities every single day but it does happen once in a blue moon. I’m tired just thinking about it. But this will be it for now. Just too much on my plate.
DeleteNice answers
ReplyDeleteFall for me is apples, pears, sweatshirts and sweaters and then pumpkin ice capps at Tim Hortons. Janice
ReplyDeleteWe don’t have a Tim Hortons here. I had to look it up.
DeleteI wish the leave by us would change color. Love that Sunflower. I don't like bulky clothes either. I definitely need to eat more of those items. Yes, your sons birthday is definitely a reason to be nostalgic. Hope he had a nice birthday. Didn't know that about the verse in the Bible. That is interesting, and of course very sad, about preparing for a shooter.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm curious about the passage in Ezekiel that inspired the mother/daughter saying. Hope you're having a great week!
