A Bump in the Road

I was looking forward to a peaceful and serene Friday, but it didn't turn out that way. As I was leaving the Winco parking lot, I was engrossed in a conversation with my husband and accidentally made too sharp of a turn, puncturing the back passenger-side tire on the curb. The sound of air rushing out from the puncture was unmistakable. I couldn't believe I had just done that!

Four new tires later...

As I type this, the car is at the tire shop.

The blurred image fails to depict the punctured tire accurately.

At least we had enough air to get home.

In any case, there's not much we can do about it now. We needed new tires but hoped to wait until after the holidays. So we're a bit earlier than planned.

Although dealing with this inconvenience disrupted my peaceful Friday with the hassle of selecting and pricing new tires and scheduling the installation, it will all be resolved in less than two hours.  It's just a temporary inconvenience—a bump in the road of life.

Tires are such a big expense. OUCH!

My lesson is that I need to pay attention more and not get engrossed in conversation if it distracts me from driving.

Tomorrow, I'm eagerly anticipating a tranquil and calm Saturday. I have no desire to leave the house or engage in any activities. My goal is to unwind and rejuvenate my body, mind, and soul.

Some of my neighbor's redwood trees are showcasing vibrant fall colors. WRONG! These are dead spots due to the July day when temperatures soared to 119 degrees. Redwood trees are coniferous and do not exhibit fall foliage. While redwoods are generally resilient, they struggle in the extreme heat of our valley. I really hope these trees make it.

So far, I have not eyed any Autumn in the trees around my neighborhood but you can be sure I am looking!

Our upcoming cooling trend shows some nice cool days ahead.

Fall is coming...

I hope your Friday was more peaceful than mine - Until we meet again,

Debby

  2. Oh no, too bad about the tires. I just got 4 new tires on my Jeep. They were almost bald. Tires are not cheap!!!

  3. Oh no! What a bummer about the tires. We are planning new tires for hubby's car too and yes, they are so expensive.
I hope your Saturday is quiet and peaceful.

    1. We decided to pay part of it now and take care of the rest in 90 days, interest-free. It all evens out in the end, so no worries.

  4. Oh Debby. I am so sorry this happened to you.. I have actually done this exact thing before. I try watching the curbs much more closely now. I hope that tomorrow will be a full day of relaxation for you. Just spend some time pampering your mind and your soul. Interesting pictures of the tree tops.. The colors are so pretty. Tomorrow is a brand new day.

  5. Maybe this was a blessing in disguise! Since you needed tires anyway, maybe you would have gotten in an accident! But I know how expensive they are, we recently had to get new ones.

  6. It's better that you had to change the wires now, then in winter ! But yes it always makes a hole in your wallet !

  7. Oh, I am sorry to hear (no pun intended) that you heard that unmistakable sound of air leaving your tire. That exact same thing has happened to me and it is no fun especially since you had not been planning on having to deal with getting a new tire. A high of 73 on Monday- that does sound nice and cool after temps well into the hundreds (I don´t think I have ever felt a temperature over 100 degrees). I hope those beautiful trees survive. Have a great weekend!

    1. I remember when they were anywhere from $35 a tire to $50. But I do remember when bread was 4 loaves for a dollar!

  10. Don't feel bad! We had just bought 4 new truck tires (you know how expensive those are) and almost immediately got a puncture in one at the Lowe's parking lot. Good grief. It was an easy patch job at least. 💙

  11. I'm so sorry about the tire mishap, Debby! Whenever something unexpected rears its ugly head Tom and I are likely to say, "Well, that's the cost of doing life." (Unfortunately, the unexpected happens more often than what we'd like.) I hope your weekend is UN-eventful.

    1. I like that! I'll have to steal that little saying.

So far today is very quiet and definitely UN-eventful.

  12. It's a shame that you had to purchase the tires before you were ready for them, but now you have the satisfaction of knowing you have good traction while you're on the road.

    1. We had just put some money away for the tires - so we used that little bit for a down, and the rest will be paid within 90 days/with no interest. It all eventually works out

    1. Yes, we could have had a blowout if we hadn't heard the air swooshing out from the tire.

  15. Oh, so sorry to hear about the tire(s), but thankful you weren't out in traffic when it happened and stranded by the road! God was watching out for you by allowing it to happen when and where it did. Yes, they are expensive, but they can also save your life! I am sorry to see the Redwoods possibly dying. Praying they will recover with the cooler temperatures and hopefully some rain sometime. Your temperatures look very nice. We aren't getting that cool in the mornings yet, but our afternoon temps are very comparable to yours. But we have so much humidity right now and lots of rain each day. At least the sun was shining for a while today, which was nice for a change. Anyway, yes, fall is coming little by little. And I am glad you are safe!!

  16. That is sad about the trees burning because the heat. The same happened to our palm trees and then my hubby went overboard cutting them out. Glad you only messed up your tires and did not get an accident with anyone else.

    1. Talked with a tree guy in the neighborhood and he said just leave them alone - nature will take care of it. The dead areas will fall off and leave some bare spots but they’ll recover. I hope so.

  17. I'm sorry to hear about your tire, Debby. Yes, tires are expensive. My son just got a new tire as well. They even came out and put enough air in the tire to get to the shop and replace it. That's nice that you got four new tires! I like those bird houses in the tall trees. I hope your week is a good one, with no road bumps. ; )

    1. Well we needed new tires so that’s done.
So far the week looks promising with cooler weather and we had quite a bit of rain on Sunday. Loving it!

  18. Our Redwoods on our back property edge are showing those "fall" colors too. Too much hot and not enough wet. Hope yours will bounce back too.
I am loving the cooler temps for this week. Only suppose to get up to 75F today. Sweet relief.
I do hope you were able to rest Saturday. We all need those kind of days to regroup and then move on.
So sorry about your tires. Been there and done that too. At least you will be safer on the road as the weather changes.
