Happy Monday
Last month, while hiking around Castle Lake, I stumbled upon a remarkably unique flower. I'm not certain whether I've already shared it with you, but if I have, then I'm afraid you'll have to endure seeing it again.
It reminds me of a pumpkin.
So, Happy Monday, everyone.
In a couple of weeks, on the 28th, I'll start my BSF leaders training, and the official study is set to commence on September 11. Wednesdays are going to be particularly busy for me, as I'll be occupied from 8:30 in the morning until noon.
- I am still awaiting the report from my tests - colonoscopy and the endoscopy.
- I am waiting for my new eyeglasses to come in.
This morning, my husband visited the VA Clinic to obtain a copy of his disabilities list. Later, he submitted the list to the VA service center to initiate the process of increasing his disability rating from 40% to 50%.
It's a mild 89 degrees/19% humidity

Another sign of Fall
I awoke to the familiar sound of a school bus coming to a stop in front of my house. It took me by surprise because I thought it was the first day of school, but apparently, it had started last week. I must have missed that detail. The sound of the bus always brings back fond memories of my own school days and those of my sons, even though they never rode a bus to school. Our home was conveniently close to the school, so they either walked or I drove them. I usually insisted on driving them to ensure they arrived safely, but I allowed them to walk home with their friends.
I find it really strange that school starts in mid-August. It feels so unnatural to me and really messes with my seasonal circadian rhythm. When I was a child, and also when my sons were growing up, we always used to go back to school after Labor Day only to have the next day off because it was California Admission Day, a state holiday. But then, when my boys were in school, they decided to start back after Admission Day.
In August, the air was filled with the excitement of soccer practice. As teams were formed and practice sessions became more intense, the aroma of the freshly cut grass on the soccer field instantly transported me back to those memorable moments—fun times.
It's time for me to get creative and put together something for dinner. Instead of heading to the store, I'm going to rely on what's available in my freezer and pantry. I might need to pick up some milk or fresh produce, but other than that, I'm ready to let my imagination run wild and whip up a meal with what I have.
Have a great evening,
Debby

The beautiful flower looks like a Tiger Lily. I know what you mean. When I was growing up, school let out in early June and you didn't come back till September 7th!!!
ReplyDeleteI don’t know why they have to mess with a good thing.
DeleteNeat flower. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.
ReplyDeleteIt's been "cooler" here too. I like where this is heading.
Still waiting on all the 'scopy results? We get ours immediately after the procedure. Anyway, hope everything is negative and there's no worries. 💙
That’s helpful.
DeleteWe always went back the Tuesday after the Labor Day Monday. We didn't get admissions day off tho. Years ago they tried the year round school with the kids getting off a month three times a year. It was only for grade school kids. I expect there was a lot of complaining because it didn't last very long.
ReplyDeleteMine were school age at the time the year-round school was proposed. Our district designated one school to be year round. It closed after 5-6 years.
DeleteDebby,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!! And thanks for your kind words!! School does not start here until the end of August with some schools still starting after Labor Day.....I hope you have a great week!!
Hugs,
Deb

Hi Debby, thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteSchool started last week around here. It seems early to me too, as a kid we started school right after Labor day.
What an interesting flower and it does look like a mini pumpkin. School starts here after Labor Day and am glad it does because my travel time to work will be slower when it does. Janice
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower. I keep an app on my phone called Seek, where you can take a photo with it and it will tell you what it is. Pretty neat.
ReplyDeleteI love the flower and the beautiful color of orange. I sure wish that school did not start back until after Labor Day. This is just the way it should be! Here in Texas, it is really too hot for school to start. The school is air conditioned, but the heat just getting to and from school, causes the kids to be exhausted. I'm praying for great results on your test results. Hopefully you will get them back today. I live a few blocks from one of our elementary schools and the sounds of school back in session is all around me.
ReplyDeleteI have been feeling fall approaching also. It is bittersweet because the days get shorter but then the garden watering comes to an end. I also have been cooking from my pantry and freezer. It really helps to lean on what you already have stored up.
ReplyDeleteThat's great of you to just look in your pantry to see what you can whip up for dinner. It's something I often do too, as going to the store is not pleasant for me as I get older. Oh, I know what you mean about the school buses - they always say Fall is here! I'm with you, it feels so unnatural that they start back end of August. Well, we have our memories of going back in September I guess. That flower is very unique and pretty, and awesome sunflower photo.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, Debby.

School starts around here so early too and all the different districts begin on different days. It gets so complicated for parents to coordinate if their kids are in different grade levels.
ReplyDeleteGlad that is all behind me.
Glorious weather today. Cool and just a slight breeze. MY kind of day for sure.
Hope your test results are good and that your hubby gets his upgrade too.
Trying to round up my photos for the next installment of our mission trips. Why I didn't label things like that in the early years ...

I loved the photo of the "pumpkin" flower, Debby! Yes, school starts way too early here, but at least the kids get out for the summer after Labor Day. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteKids here go back the day after Labor Day.
ReplyDeleteLove the sunflower!!
I think it is a type of lily, just not sure what kind. We start school here on the 29th of this month and then have three or perhaps 4 days off. I always wondered why they had to go back to school for one or two days before having a long weekend.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
