Thursday Stuff

I just got my hands on the Isaiah commentary for the upcoming Bible study beginning on September 12. Additionally, today's study session finished by exploring the various names of God. It was an enriching study!

I’m currently diving into the commentary on Revelation, and Amir’s insights make the complex text much more understandable. I truly believe that I will be fully prepared to facilitate the upcoming Bible study. I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to engage in deep, meaningful study this year, especially given the challenging times we are living in.

We have three more weeks of study on Israel and the Anti-Semitism within the church and its teachings. No wonder God's chosen people have distrusted Christians for years! It makes me mad.

On Tuesday evenings, our Friends of Israel team connected via Google Meet with participants from all over the United States, divided into four groups. In total, there are about 24 individuals involved. We were placed in the last group, group four, due to our location on the west coast. One of the participants is a Pastor from India, and it is morning for him. This past Tuesday, he shared with us how he and his congregation are fervently praying for the United States. It was fascinating to learn how they perceive the US, and especially moving to hear that they have even sent missionaries here. It's truly heartwarming to know that the US is being prayed for, especially during these challenging times.

Update on the Park Fire

427,067 Acres

34% Containment

This fire is incredibly persistent, much like the Dixie fire that raged on until the end of October 2021. It is affecting the same counties: Butte, Plumas, Shasta, Tehama, and Lassen.

The lack of information about the man who pushed his mother's car into a gully, causing this fire, is frustrating. It seems like he has a strong legal representation, as he was arraigned on the Monday after the incident - is pleading not guilty. Aside from that, there's been very little public information about the case. It will no doubt take a couple of years before he goes to trial. There is no such thing anymore as the Sixth Amendment and the right to a speedy trial.

But that's California for you!

This fascinating vintage lithograph features the town of old Shasta. It's amazing to see how few trees there were in the area at that time. This is most likely due to the town's history of recurring fires. Fortunately, most buildings were made from brick, and the ruins are still standing to this day. It's interesting to think about the long-standing presence of fires in this region, dating back as far as historical records can attest.

Today feels like a Friday to me, even though it's only Thursday. I'm feeling exhausted and could really use a break. I've scheduled a dental appointment for November, and I'm currently waiting for the prep materials for my colonoscopy on Tuesday. I had to transfer the prescription to another pharmacy, and I hope everything goes smoothly. I had a conversation with the clinic to inform them about the pharmacy not having it.  I don't have to start the preparation until Monday. I was open to rescheduling, but they preferred not to do that. I just hope I won't be charged if I do need to reschedule. At this point, I wish I had stuck to my long-time decision about not having one. What a hassle.

I have to start preparing dinner now. I'll be making spaghetti. I hope you have a wonderful evening and get a restful night's sleep.

Take Care
Debby

  1. It's taking me a minute to get used to this new blog! :) It popped up in my feed and I had to look a bit - then realized "it's Debby!"
We like Amir Tsarfati. I bet that will be good. Interesting to see the fire. It's so sad. I really like that lithograph!

  2. I am learning a lot of the Jewish traditions and foods by watching The Chosen. I can't wait til Season 5 is out. My beloved show, and I've been watching the reruns. Yes, this fire is persistent, isn't it? Went to your town yesterday with my son, just to take care of a few things, and it was so hot. Came home early in the afternoon. Spaghetti is my favorite, and have to make it at least every couple weeks.

Oh, and I forgot to follow. Have been so busy just winding down after a long trip. I'm following now!

    1. I was thinking about timing a rewatch of the reruns closer to season 5.
Yes it’s hot - I start getting cabin fever with the curtains closed in the afternoon. I do get out in the mornings but it’s been hot then, too.
Oh Autumn, where art though? 😜

  3. That book on Revelation sounds interesting. Years ago I read a book called Israel Beloved by Kay Arthur. I was able to get my book signed when I met the author. It is written like a love story but goes through the history of Israel. I just re read it and want to learn more. I also just read the Left Behind series and they made it very clear that the Jewish people are God's chosen people, and we are a part of His family too! I hope that fire gets under control soon and they go to trial soon with the guy that started it.

    1. First to the Jew and then the gentile!
So much replacement or Covenant theology throughout the early years and is still being taught in churches today. God is not finished with the Jewish people or Israel. He made them a promise and He keeps His promises!

  5. I know this is an Amazing study....I am extremely thankful that there are other Countries praying for the United States. We need MANY prayers in this Country. And as much as this Country needs prayer, Israel needs our prayers. These fires truly sadden me....especially after seeing the devastation this past May, when we traveled to areas where previous fires had destroyed so many acres. I pray that this fire is contained SOON. Debby...although it has been a struggle in getting what you need to prepare for the colonoscopy, you will be glad to get this done and have the assurance that all is good. Happy Friday! ❤️

  6. We do need all the prayers we can get, Debby, that's for sure! I simply could never live in California, ever. Too many fires and too much craziness. I'm glad to know that there is a strong Christian fellowship where you live, though. That study does sound intriguing.
    Blessings!

    1. What is crazy to outsiders is pretty standard to me.
The fires are just part of life here now. I couldn't live around tornadoes, hurricanes, or humidity! LOL! It's what you're used to.

  7. That sounds like an interesting Bible study. I try to pay attention to what has been going on in Israel but there's still so much I know I haven't learned. I hope you continue to stay safe with those fires nearby. I wish I could send you all this rain we've been getting all week here in the east.

    1. Many Christians do not like to dig deep into expository Bible studies, so you're not alone. I read where the most popular bible studies are topical. They're easy, and some topics would be "love" or "how to cope with anxiety" or about a person in the Bible. I don't care for that type. I like to study hard. It's exhilarating to me, when I find something that is new to me.

the fires and heat truly are exhausting. Praying for you.
