A Laid Back Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

How to Join the Hodgepodge?

Answer on your own blog then hop back here to add your link to the party.

Come on, you know, you want to do it...

 1. What are your current priorities in this season of life? Elaborate as much or as little as you like.

Studying the Bible.

Currently, I'm immersing myself in the powerful insights of Revelation and Isaiah through my women's studies. In our fellowship group, we study Acts, and on Sundays, our Pastor teaches in Philippians.

2. What's one thing you wish you had more of?

At times it would be nice to have more hours in the day to reflect on the Bible or simply contemplate its message. But God provides ample time; it's up to me to manage that time wisely.

3. Do you celebrate Halloween?

NO!

 what WERE your Halloween traditions?

As a child of the baby boomer generation, our Halloween traditions were simple. Each year, my mom would take cardboard cutouts of two mischievous witches, their pointed hats and crooked smiles delightfully spooky, and a grinning Jack-o-Lantern with a flickering candlelight glow behind it. She would carefully tape these whimsical figures on the front window. On our door hung a cardboard skeleton, its bony arms outstretched in a haunting welcome to all - while our porch proudly showcased a lovingly carved pumpkin. This was our entire Halloween decor back then, and she used the same decorations year after year!

My mom always made my costumes for Halloween. We would have a school party and an early dinner, and I’d be out the door to trick-or-treat by 6 p.m. When I was younger, my mom would go with me. But as I got older, I started going out with my friends. I was a fun-loving kid, a little rebellious and I often found myself in some trouble. I can remember at least two Halloweens when I stayed out too late (out of willful disobedience) and my dad had to come looking for me. One time, he found me in a place I wasn’t supposed to be. He gave me the "look," and I knew I was in big trouble. He made me get in the back of the truck and told a couple of my friends that their parents wanted them at home as well.  So there we were -  sitting in the truck bed, waiting for our punishment.

Any special plans for Halloween this year?

No.

4. Last thing you ate that contained chocolate? Last thing you made that called for chocolate?

Ghirardelli dark chocolate with sea salt caramel.

I haven't baked anything yet.

5. Do you prefer laid back weekends or do you like to have a lot of plans? Thinking back to this past weekend... which was it?

I don’t like having a lot of plans and try to avoid them like the plague. I’m very laid-back in everything I do. I prefer spontaneous activities over planned ones - As a discussion leader in BSF this year, I find myself studying and planning throughout the week. This commitment is demanding, so I really look forward to a relaxed weekend to recharge and unwind.

Last weekend was laid-back!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Let’s see… my husband has been prescribed hearing aids for his tinnitus. Apparently this could help.  Who knew?

  2. I also have some fun memories from trick or treating when I was a kid, but I'm not okay with Halloween any more. Mmmmm, I love Ghirardelli chocolate, especially dark! Hope you have a great week!

    1. I had fun as a child and with my own on Halloween but always had questions about it as a believer and got answers from all over the place. To me in scripture spells it out clearly but to others I just pray the Holy Spirit will enlighten them. I just don’t see Jesus “celebrating “ Halloween.
