Rain, Snow, Laydee, and the Dentist
I enjoy watching the webcams at Lassen Volcanic National Park,
especially the ones at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center.
On this Thursday afternoon, I hope everyone is doing well as we approach the holiday. Our area received significant rain and snow over the past two days, similar to the storms of the past. We've recorded about 6 inches of rain at home, while the mountains have seen nearly 2 feet of snow.
Some members of my Bible study group, who travel from the mountains, hit snow while driving down. What dedication! These gals know how to navigate the roads with their vehicles—better than I could do! The storm is not as bad as they are saying. Yeah, we're getting rain and snow—LIKE we're supposed to—that's how we "winter" in the real Northern California! I believe it was more concentrated in Oregon and Washington.
On Tuesday afternoon, we noticed that Laydee's skin tag on her chin was leaking and causing her discomfort. Our vet only agreed to remove it if it ruptured or became infected. Unfortunately, our regular veterinarian was fully booked by the time we called at 4 PM, and other clinics couldn’t see her that day. My husband took her in the next morning at 6:45 AM, where the vet confirmed the cyst was infected and prescribed antibiotics. Surgery will be in December, which is disappointing due to holiday staffing shortages. For now, we’ll keep her comfortable and follow the vet’s instructions.
Yesterday, I had a dental appointment with a new provider who accepts my insurance. I had to take Backroads home because I-5 North was closed due to the snowstorm in the mountains, which left many semis parked along the interstate. Redding is usually the staging area the CHP uses to stop vehicles before they go over to the mountains.
I’ll return on Monday for a cleaning and the first week of December to fix two loose fillings—no cavities, just preventative care. I received those fillings when I was 11 years old!
The major part of my week is wrapping up, with grocery shopping tomorrow to bag my turkey. I’m looking forward to a week off since there will be no BSF or Isaiah Bible study next week.
I guess I'll start decorating for Christmas after Thanksgiving. November went by quickly, and I know December will, too.
Until Next Time -
Debby
Revelation 5; 9-12
And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood, you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”

I am so sorry that your fur baby won't get surgery until December. I do know you will keep a very close eye on her. Didn't November speed right by.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It’s crazy how fast November went by.
DeleteI'm sorry Laydee has such a wait!
ReplyDeleteIt was snowing here today too. Glad your BSF friends made it. And hooray for a good dentist appt too.
Yeah I have wanted it gone for a long time - to me getting it removed when she was a year younger would have been safer. Now at 11 it is a risk. But other than that, she’s active, and still loves to swim and play.
DeleteThat is quite a large skin tag! I'm sure you will be happy when it's been taken care of.
ReplyDeleteAbout the size of a walnut.
DeleteHi Debby. Sorry about your dear dog and I hope the surgery can take place as early in December as possible. So you already have had snow, too! It will be coming to western Massachusetts sooner than later, that's for sure. Thanks so much for your visit to Writing Straight from the Heart and your comment, too. Please stop by any time. It's an exciting time, looking forward to the double holidays!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, Thanks for dropping by! At my place just rain but other parts of the county is snow.
DeleteI’ll be happy when that big ugly thing is off Laydee! December can’t come soon enough!
Poor Laydee! I think they should have removed it before it got infected.
ReplyDeleteI do too!
DeleteWow, they can't do surgery on your dog until December? That's crazy. Hoping it all goes well. We got our first snow yesterday, but it was just a dusting.
ReplyDeleteSince the pandemic and lockdowns we’ve lost many veterinary clinics. Plus the staffing issues - no one wants to work this holiday week and do surgery.
DeleteSame thing with our healthcare and Dental. It is crazy.
g'morning. i'm new to your blog via creekside cottage, a long time dear friend. the wind is strong this morning and we've had about 7 inches rain so far. in snow that would have been tremendous. we're thankful for the autumn storm. it's an annual thing, is it not? :) i live in a tiny mountain town in the lost sierra. blessings..
ReplyDeleteOh so nice of you to visit! I love the region of Lost Sierra! I also appreciate my fellow California bloggers!
DeleteIt’s been a good storm. A “welcome -to-the -beginning-of-the-rainy-season-type-of storm” - We’ve totalled 9 inches since Wednesday according to our own rain gauge. When it finally clears out the heavy snow will look exquisite on our highest peaks as it glistens in the sun. Truly a beautiful time of year!
awe...sweet Laydee. Glad you were able to get her in and get the skin tag looked at. My daughter's dog (Taz) had one on his eyelid and they too had to have it removed. SNOW!!! I love the white fluffy stuff, but of course, I don't have to get out and drive in it. Seeing the snow in the mountain area is so very pretty and I'm glad those areas are getting the much needed moisture. Be safe while you are out and about getting the items needed for Thanksgiving....this will be a busy weekend with so many people out shopping. Asking Blessing to cover you today Debby. always enjoy your beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteOn the eye lid would definitely need surgery. This is the size of a walnut.
DeleteI hope we get some lower elevation snow this year. It’s always fun because it happens so rarely and everything shuts down!
Laydee resting safe in her daddy's hands is such a moving image! Her eyes, so trusting! Thank you for keeping her comfortable -- and this update, too, that we can add her (and y'all) to our prayers.
ReplyDeleteWinter and big-time snowfall used to be my favorite -- but it's been so many years, I'm embarrassed to admit I'd be leery to try driving. Please stay safe!
Yes, pure trust! She’s doing well but I’m sure life will be much better once it is removed! And for us too, because it’s hard to wrestle with her - afraid to bump it.
DeleteNo snow at my home with is at a lower elevation but once in awhile we get some and I hope this is the season! It’s fun.
Prayers for poor sweet Laydee, she looks so miserable. sorry she has to wait so long to get her surgery. I have never seen a tag that big, Jakes was about the size of a BB but was on his bottom eyelid and might have gotten bigger if not removed.
ReplyDeleteIt’s huge - size of a walnut. The vet told us there was a risk. Now she’s a year older and another vet will remove it. He didn’t mention a risk. So I don’t know. 🤷♀️
DeletePoor Laydee! Dogs are like our children and all we want is the best for them. We did see your forecast on the news, and I immediately thought of you. Glad to know you're hanging in there. Blessings, Debby!
ReplyDeleteWell then depend on us to love them and feed them and keep them safe.
DeleteWell the news really does hype it up quite a bit. We get these storms all the time and they make it out as if it’s something new. Sure they can get a bit wild but that’s winter!
Yes, we had our first snow Wednesday, and it was a BIG one!! But you're right, that is just the normal for people living up here in the mountains, and I was planning on mentioning that on my next post, because it's a different way of life, and people have to go with the flow and make-do, and shovel, and live through the power outages, which we had. That was so good of the lady to come from the mountains to the Bible Study. Poor Laydee. I hope she does Ok until that skin tag can be removed. Yea, be careful on the roads when you go to your dentist appts. We're expecting more snow ahead. : )
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Yeah I heard! I heard almost 2 feet of snow where you are! Well it is Fall/Winter and all of this rain, wind, snow is pretty much expected this time of year! A lot of non- Californians don’t realize how diverse our climate and regions are here!
DeleteI’m sure she will feel so much better once that ugly thing is removed.
More rain tomorrow - supposed to be all day. 🌧️☔️
I know what you mean about the diverse comment. It makes me laugh when people think of California as just "sunny California, or the golden state." We get so much snow in the higher elevations, even near Pollock Pines and Lake Tahoe. Even Grass Valley gets its share of snow. I had a blog friend from the South that mentioned how amazed she was on every snowy post I did. I tried to explain to her, but she was still surprised to see it.
Delete; )
That’s why California is so unique. We have diverse geography, climate and people!
DeleteAww your poor fur baby. I hope what you can do until the surgery will work out well.
ReplyDelete( inches of rain is a lot of that wet stuff coming down. I'm glad you can have some time off to get ready for the holidays.
Here's hoping your son will get over that horrible flu. It can really knock one flat.
Stay healthy.
I have to go to the post office to mail some eBay items...just when I think the rain has let up a bit it comes down hard again and now we are getting the gusty winds too. so maybe I'm going now...maybe not...
Sue
She seems fine and enjoys the attention. We had those gusty winds this morning.
DeleteMy son is still sick. Poor guy, tomorrow is his 44th birthday!
Oh poor Laydee, hope she won't be too uncomfortable while waiting surgery. We are getting a bunch of snow right now.
ReplyDeleteWe’re babying her and she’s loving it!
DeleteHow fun. I bet the snow is beautiful.
Oh, I hope Laydee isn't in much pain, and that the infection will heal before the surgery. So sorry you/she have to wait. Glad you are safe in your home and area with all the storms in the region. I hope you and your family will have a blessed and beautiful Thanksgiving time together. Stay safe and warm (and dry?!)
ReplyDeleteShe’s on antibiotics and we’re treating her like a princess. She’s milking it! 😆
DeleteYeah our rainy season is definitely here! That means storms, wind, snow - it can get wild but it’s all normal. The news hyped it up as if it is unusual. We old timers know the truth. 👵
The thought of driving in snow scares me, hell I never liked driving in heavy rain.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks that Laydee has to wait for surgery it should have been removed before it could get infected
Blizzards are one thing - driving in a light snowfall is fun. I’m good since it snows here once every couple of years. So when it does, we enjoy it.
