Wreaths Across America 2024

I previously shared that my husband visited the Veterans Cemetery to participate in the Wreaths Across America wreath-laying event. This year, he captured some stunning photographs showcasing the solemn beauty of the wreaths on the Veteran graves.

He told me how he lay on the wet, soggy ground to capture this photo.

I'm glad he was able to give a wreath to his dad, honoring his memory in such a meaningful way.

My mom and dad are in cremation niches.

Our good friend and Margie's husband.

It rained heavily that Saturday, so I decided not to go because I had an early morning commitment at the church and wanted to avoid getting soaked in the pounding cold rain, which could have made me achy. The cemetery is 29 miles from my house, and he mentioned that it only sprinkled there, unlike the heavy downpour I was experiencing at home.

It has been raining all day today. I went out to buy the prime rib from the butcher and also purchased a new digital meat thermometer. I want to make sure I don't overcook it too well-done, especially for the price! I still think $12.99 a pound is a good deal. They cut it, tied it, and put it in a. rub on it at no extra cost! It should be a perfect medium rare, and the end pieces are for those who prefer it a little more done.

How do you like
your prime rib?

Do you prefer
horseradish or au jus?

I arrived early, but it started to get crowded. Many people are asking for crab, which will be available on the 18th. I'm allergic to shellfish, so I won't be having any.

That does it for me this cool, wet afternoon.

Is it 8 or 9 Days till Christmas?

See you tomorrow
Debby

Prime rib's not my fav, but I lean more to 'medium.'. What a treat your family has in store!

PS - I've a shellfish allergy, too. What a pain!

  5. the photos are beautiful, all of them, especially like the one with the view of the mountain. it touches the heart to the core to see all the graves in a wow and with the wreathes. makes us more aware of the price they paid. bob loves prime rib, I am not a fan of beef except hamburgers. I do eat it is served and like my done done done, bob is med rare. the only steak I ever ate and enjoyed was a gift to us of 3 filet mignons to repay bob for cutting there grass when their mower broke and for repairing the mower. it melted in my mouth.

  6. Those are nice photos of the cemetery with all the wreaths on each site. I especially like the third photo. I hope your prime rib turns out just the way you want. I'm not really a prime rib gal, but I do love a good pot roast. Raining and snowing here in the mountains. Have a good week, Debby.

    1. I enjoy beef in most forms. We don't always have it like we did when I was a kid. We always had beef, chicken, pork, and fish when Dad caught some fresh.

    1. It's always too expensive at Restaurants and you take that risk it may be too fatty - this one looked lean.
