Let's Chill
That is the sentiment of today -
Let's chill at 51 for a high and 42 as a low.
This little pup has the right attitude for 2025 -
I began packing up Christmas last week, but the pot holders and tablecloths must be washed before I pack them away - and then, of course, there are always a couple of overlooked items.
I think I have everything...
Susie has to inspect everything.
This morning, it rained while I went grocery shopping. Since I'm focusing on using what I already have in the freezer and cupboards for meals, I only spent $43 at the store. My purchases mainly included laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, and bleach. I also bought milk, bread, cheese, olives, and orange juice.
The current cost of eggs in my area is close to $9 for a dozen. This seems consistent with last year, but I'd like to know if it is just seasonal or a result of the impact of avian influenza on chicken populations.
What are you paying for eggs?
The other day, I snagged my favorite jeans on a nail and tore them. Since the tear isn’t in a seam, I had to buy new ones. The current pair I wear is too big for me—I look like a waif! I went to Kohl's and got two new pairs, one black and one denim, along with some black ankle boots. Plus, I’m down another jeans size, which is a win!
I haven’t been dieting; I’m just eating less and moving more as I approach 71 in March. I’m not a big eater, and I don’t have a sweet tooth, but lately, my weakness has been warm crusty bread with butter and mint chocolate chip ice cream!
Oh my!
On New Year's Day evening, we lit the final candle. We invited some like-minded friends to join us, which was a lot of fun. I prepared some finger foods and finished off the evening with jelly donuts. I was too tired to make latkes since I had just cleaned my stove and didn't want to deal with the mess again. It can get quite oily on the stove and on the floor!
We're having nachos for dinner with meat and refried pinto beans, which I have been cooking all day. Yum, it smells so good!
Enjoy your evening.
Debby

Crusty bread with butter and mint chip ice-cream is awesome! I can't think of anything better myself!! I love your holiday potholders. An endocrinologist said it is almost impossible to lose any weight when you are 70 or over. So you are amazing! I am struggling just to keep from gaining!
ReplyDelete“Almost impossible” but still possible.
DeleteActually I don’t know how much I weigh. I never weigh myself - I just go by my clothes and how I feel. They know at my doctors not to tell me my weight because in the past I have stressed over the number.
Yum on all that food, smiles. I think we paid like $7 for brown eggs last week. Wishing you a great day, friend.
ReplyDeleteStill a good source for protein. My dog has an egg a day so we go through the eggs!
DeleteMy kind of gal with the bread and ice cream. Sounds like something I would eat. :-) Yes, your pup does have the right ide with that bottle too. I dont have holiday potholders, but have a few towels that I washed already. Hope you have a great weekend. Janice
ReplyDeleteOh I love a good yeasty bread! And I could eat ice cream morning noon and night but darn it, I can’t. I keep giving myself the age when I will and not worry about it. Now it’s at 85. Funny years ago it was 70!
Deletesorry about the jeans, hope they were not a favorite. yay for the one size down. Jan 26, 2017 I weighed 80 lbs more than I do now. I was 71 at the start and 72 in Sept and had lost in that time 40 lbs, by the next Januray I had lost 80 and am still the same size. I can attest to a person can lose weight after 70 if they stop eating wrong things and eat the right things. I was addicted to sugar, and huge. I gave up sugar and sweets and this coming 26th will have been 8 years without it. It changed my life. I wanted to lose 10 more pounds but both of my doctors warned that being over 80, we need a little for when, not if we get sick. both said, don't lose another pound.
ReplyDeletethe price of eggs here, organic are 8 and 9 dollars, but local grown eggs are 4 to 5 dollars, I paid 4.46 last Saturday.
They were a favorite! I was so disgusted!
DeleteGood for you , losing the weight! That must have been hard. Fortunately I’m not addicted to sugar but I know many who are and they just resist. Granted there are some mildly sweet things I do enjoy but always with moderation! I have more issues with savory foods!
Susie is so cute! And what a great reason to buy new jeans, too. Good for you, Debby. I'll be 70 on March 1st; what day is your birthday? Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteMartha, I’m March 2.
DeleteWow! Is that a coincidence or what? :)
DeleteI always knew there was something I liked about you!
DeleteHappy New Year to you and your family! Speaking of forgotten Christmas decorations, when we were trying to cram out tree in the container we keep it in I found 2 more ornaments that I missed. I would have sworn I had them all!
ReplyDeleteWe didn’t put any ornaments on the tree this year! Just the lighted tree and the angel on top!
DeleteAw, your Susie's such a cutie pie! Congrats on the weight loss, er inches lost! I've been doing Atkins-turned-Keto for decades now ... with time off for bad behavior, lol. Fortunately, protein, eggs and cheese are my favorites, but man! When I lapse how the inches come rolling back.
ReplyDeleteI nearly fainted when we bought eggs a few days ago: $6.64 for a jumbo dozen.
I had much success about 18 years ago doing Keto losing that belly fat! Now I just try to eat a healthy mixed diet. I still eat many meals in the week that are just meat and salad or green vegetables. Too much starchy carbs make me bloat. I don’t eat too many sandwiches anymore and if I do it’s only a half sandwich. I love eggs and cheese as well.
DeleteI always forget some type of Christmas decoration when I'm doing the holiday cleanup.
ReplyDeleteIt’s bound to happen, especially when you have many things out. I always forget about the Christmas linens and similar items.
DeleteI like your snowflake potholder, it would go great with my collection of potholders!
ReplyDeleteI bought eggs the other day for $3.50.
You know I love ice cream too. :)
$1.25 at the Dollar Tree! I know you love ice cream, and your mention of mint chocolate chip a few months ago got me on a mint chocolate kick, that I still haven't recovered from.
DeleteI still have the garland on the small deck and steps outside the front door to put away. That will have to wait until it is no longer so bitterly cold out. Harvey still has a few things to put away in the basement.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I wouldn't go out there in that bitter cold. That's what husbands are for! lol
DeleteFar from chilly here with the temp today being 33 degrees or 91 degrees for Americans
ReplyDeleteMint chip ice cream sounds like something I would like, don't have it here, well I have not seen it here
Oh it’s delicious!!!
DeleteI can't believe it's $9.00 there for a dozen eggs! How could this be, and what is happening with our food prices? I don't like paying any more than $5-6.00 for a carton. But they are a necessary part of cooking and especially baking. Nachos for dinner sounds delicious. I have mixed emotions when I put away all my Christmas stuff. Don't like to see it go, although I like a clean space for the new year.
