February 2025

The calendar I use is simple and cheap from the Dollar Tree. It gets the job done! My husband prefers a calendar he can look at - so it serves as a shared tool so we can coordinate our schedules effectively.

While my husband prefers a physical calendar to avoid overbooking, I personally rely on my phone for scheduling, complete with reminders and timers, which helps me manage my time more efficiently.

This calendar is in our office -

This month in the Jewish Calendar is called Shevat.

Sundown on Feb. 13, 2025, marks the beginning of a “new year” for trees. This special day signifies the awakening of the earliest blooming trees in the Land of Israel, emerging from their winter slumber to embark on a new cycle of fruit-bearing—a New Year for the Trees! It is considered a minor Jewish holiday.

Here's what's on my calendar for this month:

Wedding Anniversaries!

The highlight of the month is our wedding anniversary. My son, Navy and his wife will also celebrate their 5th anniversary on February 28 this year, having married on Leap Year Day, February 29, 2020.

Calendars often fill up quickly, serving as a constant reminder of our busy lives and commitments. Many people view a packed calendar as a positive sign, indicating that they are active and engaged. However, for myself, I like to prioritize downtime and the ability to simply "be."

Striving for balance is important, especially when personal preferences differ within a household. For instance, while my husband enjoys a busy, hectic life, I prefer a quieter home environment. I'm an introvert! That's how I recharge! Understanding and respecting these differing needs helps maintain harmony while ensuring that both of us feel comfortable in our living space. We've managed well in our married life, and I appreciate how he understands my need for solitude.

So, who knows what potential opportunities and experiences February may hold?

Hearts and Hugs,
Debby

I'm not just February
by Annette Wynne

I'm not just February
With winds that blow
All day, and piled-up snow;
I'm Washington and Lincoln, too,
Who kept our country's flag for you!

I'm Valentine of airy grace—
With golden hearts and hearts of lace
And pretty cards that people send,
Quite as a secret, to a friend.

Though I am short of days and small,
I'm quite a big month, after all!

  1. Feb here, our anniversary, our 40th, is Feb 8, Son Dan BD Feb 22, Son Dave Feb 14, also his and his wife's 25th anniversary. I am am an extrovert but love being home except I don't love HAVING to stay home. I do like to get out and about, but since I have to stay home at least that doesn't bother me.

    1. I like to get out but on my own terms - not for appointments or things I really have no interest in.

  2. I like your thoughts about calendars. I need my physical one right by my "desk" ( the end of the dining room table) I can glance at it and I find it becomes a bit of a daily journal. It really helps for reference for me. Dave is always trying to have me do the updates on my phone but my stubborn old fashion brain just doesn't remember it as my go to thing.. oh well...after 61 years of living with him, I guess we still do ok..(:0)
Happy Anniversary in advance... and I think I am an introvert too.

    1. I’m a high high functioning introvert- not a recluse however the older I get the more solitude I crave.

  3. We're just the opposite here when it comes to calendars, Debby. I love the kind I can write on while Danny keeps all his appointments on his phone. Of course, we have a dry erase calendar board that changes every month and we use that to make sure we don't have any conflicts. I, too, am an introvert, so I do enjoy days when I can just be and not obligated to do. Blessings!

  4. Thanks for the education on Shevat! I also use the calendar on my phone but I do like to look at an actual calendar too.
In Feb our daughters birthday is the 14th, their anniversary is the 21st and my brothers birthday is the 25th.

    1. So you collect calendars. I had a grandma who collected them and hung them everywhere.

  6. Happy February 1st.....Would you believe that we do not even have a paper calendar in the house? Both of us use our phones and usually, once a week, we go over what is going on for that week. We are at the end of Mylee's basketball season, so we have to make sure we have all the dates on our phone calendars so we don't miss her games. Happy Anniversary month to you two... I get a LOT of alone time during the weekdays. Sam comes home for lunch but I am home by myself the rest of the day. I find it interesting to learn more about the jewish calendar here on your post. Happy Weekend ....we are enjoying the beautiful sunshine today...

  7. Just a few things on the calendar so far for the month of February. A couple of dentist appointments, one for Harvey and one for me, and now Wednesday mornings will be spent crafting with some lovely ladies.

    God bless.

  8. I love this calendar, and the name and meaning of the month February! And the page is so pretty as well. I did not know the months had different names in the Jewish calendar. So I learned a lot here. I REALLY want you to show us each month and tell us about it!!

  9. Oh, I smiled on your words about having a busy full calendar. They always seem to fill up with appts. and workers coming out to fix things and happenings in our lives and holidays, but I also prefer some downtime to just BE, and maybe visit nature from time to time. We are very much alike, but I wouldn't consider myself an introvert, I'm outgoing, but I do appreciate my time to just BE, as you so eloquently put it. I like that tree on your calendar. It reminds me of a tree and the generations that flow from it. Your calendar from the Dollar Tree is cute too. The February poem is delightful, and I love the month of February. Wishing you beautiful blessed days this month, Debby.

    1. We must have a calendar or there would be a collision of appointments and events!
Thanks for the affirmation on my comment. It’s the TRUTH.

  11. Oh, I love the significance of February 13!
I just finished printing out our February calendar ... a little aghast how chock-full of doctors' appointments. Since retiring (almost 7 years ago now!) I've become a real house hermit. I still enjoy friends and family, but in small doses. That said, I'd better get busy planning for 2 important end-of-month birthdays! (Happy early anniversary!)

  12. Well, you already know that I have a bunch of calendars...basically one in almost every room! LOL. I only write on the ones in our bathrooms, so we can both see the appointments for the month. It helps to have that visual to keep us on track. I tried using my phone calendar, but for some reason it just didn't work for me. I like to see things. I enjoyed your post and all the information given. I didn't know that in Israel they celebrate the time for budding of the trees...springtime...I like that idea. I tend to do the same thing...I watch for the budding on the trees and rejoice to see the new growth and flowers and berries, etc., positive signs of life! I love the February poem. For us we have hubby's birthday on the 16th, and our son Matthew, who is now in heaven, was born on the 25th. He would be 52 this year, which is hard for me to believe! He passed away when he was 41. I know you understand how that feels... sadly we belong to a "club" that no parent ever wants to join. (((hugs))) . I hope your February is filled with joy and peace and much love! Happy upcoming Anniversary!!

  13. I've used a computer-based calendar for years-first Microsoft Outlook, now Apple calendar (which syncs seamlessly with the iPhones Hubby and I have).

  14. I got a Dollar Tree calendar for the wall behind the front door. I got a Jewish calendar for the bathroom, and I was noticing it was Shevat. I grabbed a purse size calendar too at the Dollar Tree. I also use my calendar app. I am both extrovert and introvert, so I need a calendar to track my things and grandkid things! I heard a winter storm is hitting you guys, so stay warm!

    1. Yes we’ve already been hit. Not a freezing storm. Snow level is pretty high at 7000 ft

  18. I kept all my stuff in Outlook when I was working because I first thing I did each day was open my calendar and emails. Once I retired I needed something more in my face to not miss appointments etc. For the first year I put up a dry erase calendar board on one of my kitchen cupboards. I got tired of cleaning it off and resetting all the date numbers so this year I bought a plan DollarTree calendar to use.
I kept one of my calendars in my desk at work that I considered one of the best years of my life as far as going, doing and having a busy fun year. It was also the year I met Jim in late September. I packed it up and brought it home when I left work. I take it out and go through it every once in a while because it is full of so many happy memories.
