Spring is in the Air

There is a forecast for 100% rain on Wednesday, which is expected to continue for several days.

I'm okay with that. The more rain, the better!

It was cold this Monday morning.

I recently reconnected with my old friend, Tammy, after years apart. She moved from California to Colorado to Tennessee and now to Kansas, and we lost touch. Our paths crossed again after seven years, reminding us of the bond we share. We reminisced about our journeys through motherhood, navigating divorces around the same time, and raising our children without an active father. Despite the challenges, we created precious memories together.

Tammy is facing a difficult time after the tragic loss of her 2nd husband, but she is surrounded by a strong support system at her church in Wichita. As she shared her feelings, I listened. She just needs to be heard.

The week ahead:

I completed my study of Revelation 17, which discusses the Fall of Babylon.

✔Tomorrow, I plan to visit my eye clinic to adjust my glasses, as they are currently uneven and driving me crazy. I knocked them off my face and messed them up - They are closed today.

✔On Wednesday, I will attend my Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) group, which has only eight weeks left before breaking for the summer.

✔Thursday is designated for my Isaiah discussion and study group at my church, which I find very enriching.

I particularly enjoy where we engage directly with the Bible. Instead of using a study book, we read each chapter, analyzing the text with the help of commentaries and concordances and exploring the Hebrew meanings of certain words. This approach allows me to gain a deeper understanding of the scripture, as I have never been interested in "feel-good" studies—I prefer to delve into the substance of the text. Sometimes we only get to a few verses, but I always walk out knowing more than ever before.

✔I have a dental appointment scheduled for Friday to have my teeth cleaned.

I walked around the yard, looking for Spring...this morning.

It's not up there in the neighbor's Redwood Trees. Some Ravens live in his trees.

My first Poppy for 2025!

My husband found the second one...

The Vinca on the hill continues to mock me...

And NO, I did not get out there and knock them down.

I do nothing to these primroses, which are probably one of the easiest flowers to grow. You have to find the right spot!

You can't put a square peg in a round hole, and similarly, you can't plant flowers that thrive in full sunshine in a shady spot and vice versa. These primroses were in flower boxes in the front, exposed to the intense southwest sun. All they needed was a northeast exposure to thrive.

I have learned the hard way -

Here are Twin Cedars, looking over my roof into the front yard. They do look like two separate trees. The sweet Gum will start popping its spring greenery soon.

New growth on the Pomegranate tree!

I've got a few more days to enjoy this lovely 60-degree weather before the rain comes back! I've been spending time in my backyard, reading and listening to the birds sing in the afternoon. There's something special about the quiet, with a few bird chirps here and there.

However, since Thursday evening, a house nearby has been playing music loudly enough for me to hear it—especially the bass and drums. I've experienced louder music in my life, so I’m not too upset, but I must admit, I prefer the peace and quiet of our usually quiet neighborhood. Sound tends to travel, and I'm still trying to figure out where it's coming from. So far, it's been every evening since Thursday. Grrrrr.

I only hear it in my living room.

My husband has trouble hearing, so he doesn't hear it. Sometimes, that's a good thing, but the thumping music does distract me. Luckily, they tend to turn it down at a reasonable hour. It could definitely be worse! I could find myself living right next to them!

May God's grace surround each of you, guiding your steps this week.

Debby

  1. Love this post. Your garden must be lovely, minus the primroses. Here is Murrieta, Calif. we have a desert climate. It fries and dries anything not suitable. sigh.

  3. It's 60 degrees here today too! Lots of people have smiles on their faces - so good to be thinking Spring! I'm glad you have rain predicted, the more the better is right.
Hard to believe you only have 8 weeks left in BSF.
    Your flowers are just gorgeous!

  5. So I wonder why the music has only now started? Maybe new people moved in the neighborhood? I agree with you about the way you like to do a bible study! Love the pansies and poppy!

  6. Ah, the twin cedars! Thank you for sharing them! Now we know! And those primroses are beautiful! Their color is so clear and rich. Wow! Love them! How exciting that spring is springing up around you. What's wrong with the vincas? They look pretty to me! LOL. I like studying the Bible that way too. I don't like these fill in the blank workbooks study guides, but that is what we use for our Ladies' Bible Study. It's okay and they give us good points and discussions and helps so that anyone could pick it up and learn from it without having someone really "knowledgeable" to teach the class, but I do like the straight from the Bible approach too, with the help of commentaries and footnotes, and cross references. There's SO much to learn, we can never learn it all, but at least we are trying! God is happy to see His children learning from His Word. Thank you for being a leader in your BSF group. I know that has been a blessing! I wish I could've taken that course with you.
Take care and enjoy your springtime. We had a rainy stormy start today, and now it is quite windy and turning cooler again. It definitely is spring.

    1. I heard there were tornadoes in central Florida near Orlando. I guess that means Spring to many states. Thankfully we don’t typically have any here.

  9. First off, I'm so sorry about the loud music, and I'm glad it's not that close. That is one of the reasons why I had to move from my house in So Cal. Loud music all around me - it was awful, and my ears are very sensitive to thumping and pounding, so it became quite bothersome. Looks like Spring is popping up in your area. You mentioned rain, and we may get rain and snow on Wednesday. Oh, I love those California Poppies and their color. That is good of you to be there for your friend right now after she lost her husband. She definitely needs a listening ear. Let us enjoy the rain that is coming our way. Have a great week, Debby.

    1. I get distracted to where my hearing zeros in on the thumping. Doesn’t bother my husband at all.

I’m trying hard to ignore it.

  11. Good morning Debby. Spring certainly looks to be everywhere around your place. AND, what a wonderful picture of the twin trees peeking high above your roof. We have rain coming in tomorrow..not ready for it, but God knows what we need. Happy for you that you were able to reconnect with your friend..Bless her heart, she is blessed to have you to be able to talk to. I can't imagine the pain she must be feeling. Hopefully your neighbors will stop playing the pounding music. I know this can be so annoying. enjoy this beautiful day that the Lord has made...

    1. Well yesterday evening was quiet! We have quite a storm moving in tomorrow - bringing snow to the mountains! That’s always a good thing. I just don’t ever feel right about complaining about the rain when it is so needed. We’ve about another month of our rainy season. 🌂

  12. I get what you are saying, the two young men that gave their mother 6 dancing rap singing birthday unicorns last week, play in a screaming heavy metal rock ground of 4. they practice a lot. the base and screams drive me nuts, they are across the street and with windows closed its almost bearable, but the windows have been open this week and whoa baby. they don't play late though.
I enjoyed seeing all your plants and trees, I love nature with only nature sounds. of course once I threaten to kill the Cuban tree frog that was on our rain barrel at midnight singing to his lady friend. I even went out in the dark and rain with a broom, but could not do it. ha ha

  14. We had some neighbors behind us (now gone) that were loud with the music and all I could hear was the loud thumping going on forever..I feel your pain.
Love all your spring flowers and the new life on the trees. Our pomegranate tree died and I do miss all the flowers and sweet fruit.
I guess we are expecting on last blast of rain this Wednesday too. our son is driving to Redding for business (a photo shoot) Praying for safe travels for him.
I love straight bible too. That's the way our pastor preaches. We are in Luke and by the time we are finished with that book it will be almost 2 years.
I'm glad you can be such a good friend to your friend and the loss of her husband. Sometimes ALL we need is to have someone to Listen to our Hearts.

    1. Those are the only churches Ive ever attended - where they teach (not preach) verse by verse and the context of those verses. We’re finishing up on Philippians. Last Sunday we went through just 2 verses!

Keep Tammy in your prayers. There’s just so much for her. I’m concerned.

I'm touched that you've reconnected with Tammy. Even many miles apart your support and a listening ear is a treasure. You're right, we all just need to be heard.

  17. Ok first thought yes rain is good, it is raining here, second thought those in Queensland wouldn't think more rain is good as due to Alfred the down-graded cyclone there is a bloody lot of flooding. Third thought really loud music is annoying and I hope you don't have to put up with it for too long. My last thought was pretty flowers

  18. What a lovely post. It made me happy for so many reasons...especially all those signs of spring! I think I would like to plant some primroses. They are too sweet! I am also glad you reconnectd with your friend. That is special! Hope you got all your appointments done and all is well. I also do not hear well...and, yes, sometimes that can be a blessing!:) We are moving right along with our Bible study as well. I often cannot hear the ladies when they are sharing in our small group..and that is aggravating. But, it is what it is. Happy Wednesday to you!!
