Up Up and Away
This upcoming week will be hectic, with a packed schedule ahead. Due to the tight timeline and numerous commitments, I will be making some cancellations because I need downtime. I don't need to keep up that pace anymore. I disliked it when I was young, and I dislike it now.
This morning started off spontaneously. My husband's friend has a small business that trains pilots and certifies small aircraft before they can fly. So he had three planes he had to service. He called and asked my husband if he wanted to go to Columbia for the day.
The battery in the Beast, our trusty old van, and the vehicle my husband uses, was completely dead. We had planned to visit Costco this morning to purchase a new battery, but now we’ll have to push that errand to tomorrow. I quickly put on my clothes, hopped into the car, and drove him to the Airfield.
In the distance, you can see the Sierras
No no no, not that Colombia.
Columbia, CA in the gold country.
It was founded as a boomtown in 1850 when gold was found during the California Gold Rush and was known as the "Gem of the Southern Mines."
Rather than providing me with pictures of the town, he has been sharing photographs of aircraft instead.
Friend Eric is on the ground - checking on the engine.
Columbia has a population of about 2000.
This aircraft is my husband's favorite model.
I get this instead!
No, I'm glad he is having a good time with his buddy.
Meanwhile, I have had the day to myself. This morning, I took a walk at Clover Creek with a friend and had to stop at the store for milk, bread, and butter.
Meanwhile, I noticed the Scarlet Pimpernel in my yard - an invasive weed that grows rapidly in this area. While my husband likes it, it has certain drawbacks. Notably, it attracts flies, which I recently learned. As a result, it must be removed. I am not fond of flies.
It's a picture-perfect day. 85 degrees and lovely.
It looks like it will be a beautiful week.
He just texted and said he was on his way home. It's about an hour and a half from Redding.

What a fun day for your husband! My husband would just love that. I enjoyed your photos.
ReplyDeleteThen he comes home showing me photos of more planes. ✈️
DeleteHow lovely that your husband got to spend this time with his friend. Yeah, my husband would have been taking pictures of the same things.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
He didn’t get home till a little after 5pm and he really had a nice time
DeleteHow neat that his friend took him on a little journey. My dad had a friend that flew small planes, and he took me up once. It was fun and a memorable trip. I have never heard of Columbia, California before, but I'd love to browse through that pioneer shop. Looks quaint. That's too bad that this weed attracts flies. The blossoms have a pretty color. I hope you have a nice Easter week, Debby.

Here you go, Sheri - https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=552 Columbia State Park
DeleteI was concerned when you said they were flying to Columbia. I also thought of the one in S.A., but I know it is spelled Colombia. Our niece actually went there for a vacation a week or so ago. I am trusting that she got back home safely. I'm sure I would've heard by now if she hadn't. She's only 20, and was with a group. Just didn't sound like the ideal vacation place to me. Anyway, your hubby's trip sounds much nicer, and maybe next time you can go too and visit that pioneer shop! That would be what I would want to do also. How far away is it by car? Oh, that pretty little flower attracts flies? Why is that, I wonder? Must have a peculiar odor or something? Too bad. I wouldn't want that around either. Loved all the photos. I hope you have a blessed Holy Week.
ReplyDeleteIt’s actually toxic to birds and animals if they eat it.
DeleteOh I meant to add - it takes 4 hours and 7 minutes by car.
DeleteIt sounds like you both had a good day.
ReplyDeleteYes, a very nice day
DeleteThese are the prettiest small planes I have ever seen. Especially the modernistic looking white one that reminds me of a spaceship.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely day. I love those flowers. We don't have them over here.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and God bless.
Well, I certainly would not mind running errands with that friend!:) What fun. And I have to agree with...if it attracts flies, well, it will have to go!! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI would so much love to have a fun day for hubby and a day off for me... I know you both had a great time. Nice looking planes. my favorite is the white one with all the windows
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day for both of you..I love when my Hubby has one of those. It sure brightens the spirit.
ReplyDeleteBoth of my sons had overnight fieldtrips to Columbia in their middle school years.
Its been about 15 years since Dave and I have been there. I love the quaintness and the many photo ops too.
Yesterday I weeded in the morning and got rid of a bunch of the Scarlet Pimpernel. I never knew its name I always called it weeds (:0)

Hope he enjoyed his flight. Sorry to hear about the van battery. Hopefully you are able to run those errands today. Enjoyed the photos.
ReplyDeleteFlying isn't for me in the least, but I'm glad your husband got to be with his pilot friend up in the gorgeous California skies. I'd get rid of those flowers that draw flies, too. They are pretty to look at though. Blessings, Debby!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby would be so envious! He no longer flies 'real' aircraft but builds and flies RC scale models. Like Martha flying isn't for me, but I applaud those who love it.
ReplyDeleteFun day for your husband. And sometimes it's nice to have the whole day at home alone too.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Columbia in MD too.
This is such a neat thing that your husband got to experience. Enjoyed seeing the planes and all of the lovely flowers. I too would like to visit that Pioneer Emporium. I'm guessing it really has some neat things inside.
ReplyDeleteMy husband would just LOVE that. He loves flying. I bet it was a beautiful trip.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read Columbia I thought you can't mean the country but a town by that name, I hope hubby had a wonderful day and I hope you did too
