The Rodeo and a Praise Report!
Turn up your speakers to hear
Monday morning breaks, bathed in sunlight and filled with promise. A new week unfolds, abundant with potential and opportunities waiting to be embraced.
This morning, I enjoyed my coffee on the front patio, where I observed two doves perched on the feeder. The experience was complemented by the gentle sounds of the morning, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Good news: the $500 missing from the ATM has been recovered and deposited back into our savings account as of Saturday.
My goodness, what a weekend!
It was Rodeo Week in my town. Northern California's extreme north is a land of ranchers and farmers—independent thinkers who work hard and embrace the dust. I'd never been to a Rodeo in my life until I came up here to live, 17 years ago (May 22). At first, I must admit, I initially embraced my Bay Area snobbery, thinking it was hokey. I'm not proud of that. Let's face it, Shasta County was — and still is — a complete culture shock compared to Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Then something happened - I grew to appreciate this western ranch culture that is prevalent here in Shasta County.
Where I came from, one city runs into another - from San Francisco down to San Jose and beyond (now). There's no distinction. Just wall to wall cities and towns.
There was a parade downtown - with people, not fancy floats - high school bands, Cal fire, our own Pipes and Drums, and even Smokey the Bear made an appearance.
We arrived at 5 pm, two hours before the opening ceremonies, as my husband was a flag bearer. I watched as they prepared the grounds. We were in the VIP section, Rodeo Flats, instead of our usual cheap seats. Dinner included tri-tip steak, chili, garlic bread, and salad.
Did cowboys really eat salad and garlic bread?
The opening ceremony overflowed with patriotism, featuring a cowgirl standing on a majestic white horse, proudly displaying the American flag. A heartfelt video tribute showcased John Wayne reminiscing about the Old West. Veterans were honored, including my husband.
After a long Saturday, my body ached as if I had ridden a bucking bronco. I took 2 extra-strength Tylenol and went to bed, waking up Sunday refreshed and ache-free.
We were very thankful for the Rodeo's hospitality toward my husband and the other veterans. Those VIP tickets were something we would have never paid for - they were just too expensive. Actually, the bleachers offer a better view.
During the rodeo, a couple of his friends texted him. They were there too.

I have only been to a couple of rodeo's and we actually have many in this area. I can no longer sit on those hard benches and standing for any length of time is becoming a problem as well. Glad that you enjoyed the day.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Many of the cowboys that performed were from Canada. That's why I was sore - the seats were hard -
DeleteAs a child I loved attending the rodeo each fall, and now I'm unsure why that fell by the way. Up until a few years ago I even harbored thoughts of getting on one of those mechanical bulls, but the current state of my back? Gives me the vapors!
ReplyDeleteFist pump(!) for that missing money being put back where it belongs!
Oh no no, no on the mechanical horse. I hurt my lower back on the bumper cars at Great America. I used to be a beast on those things. I heard something crack and felt immediate nausea. Thus began my years of low back pain.
DeleteThat's great you got your $500 back, thank God. The rodeo - what fun! How cool that you got VIP seats. Love that picture of the parade with the men in their Scottish attire. Cal Fire surely deserves a moment in the spotlight. They truly are dedicated and hard workers. I've been to the rodeo once, many years ago, and I've been wanting to go again! Your coffee on the patio with the wind chimes and the doves in the distance sounds peaceful. Funny, one of my blog friends asked me today if I sat outside in the mornings to drink my coffee. I do go out there for lunch sometimes and when family visits, but as soon as I get some white chairs, I think that would be nice to sit outside. The visual of your front porch enjoying your coffee sounds wonderful, Debby. Thanks for sharing the little video. : )

It was such a relief to see it in our account. We had just resolved that we wouldn't see it again. Not trusting whoever counts the cash. We dodged a bullet and we will no longer deposit large amounts of cash.
DeleteI love this Debby! It's wonderful that your husband was honored. Our vets need to be honored more. The parade and the Pipes and Drums would be something we would really enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIt was a blast. I'm glad I went
DeleteThat looks like a great weekend! I've never been to a live rodeo, but I think it would be fun to see. So nice the Veterans were honored and that you all had VIP treatment! Really sweet. Oh, so glad your money is back safe and sound! That's a lot of money to lose! I enjoyed your post today. All good stuff!
ReplyDeleteThe only rodeos I've seen have been on television....and I'm sure they are a sad replica of the real thing.
ReplyDeleteI have a cousin who use to bull ride and calf rope in rodeos. He has since retired from it. So wonderful that they recognized all of the veterans. What pride in having the flag waved by someone riding a white horse. Wish I could have seen that. The food sounded good but not really what a cowboy would have eaten. Janice
ReplyDeleteSo glad the rodeo was a special time for the both of you, Debby. Hooray for all our veterans! God bless!
ReplyDeleteYes, hooray for them all.
DeleteI have never been to a rodeo. I have seen them on tv. I appreciate your husbands service.
ReplyDeleteAww thank you for saying that. ❤️
