This and That
Front yard - dirty fence that I plan to wash and paint and oleanders in the background.
(It kinda looks photogenic though)
Good afternoon - I hope this day has been a blessing for you all.
I was up before 6 am this morning, making a sausage, egg, and potato scramble to bring to our leader's brunch. I wasn't feeling it - why did I sign up for a savory dish when I could have just gotten some store-bought pastry? But I soldiered through the cooking - fortunately, I was smart enough to cut up the onions, potatoes, red, and green peppers the day before, which made things easier.
It was a lovely time and emotional for many of us. I'm ready for some time off, but I'll miss it. The study begins on September 10, but leaders return for training in August. Time will pass quickly, so I must make the most of this time off.
Next year's lesson.
They offer classes worldwide, as well as online.

Just in case, you're curious...
Front yard - oleanders are starting to flower.
They are about 10 feet in height.
Okay, let me tell you about what happened the other day...
We had accumulated some cash in envelopes and wanted to deposit it into our savings account, as we felt it was becoming excessive to keep on hand. The husband used the ATM for this transaction (something I wouldn't have done), and he was shortchanged by $500.
He contacted the bank for assistance. The bank's response involved directing him to a customer service phone number. He promptly called the number, took a screenshot of the receipt, and sent it to the bank representative while filing a report. The bank advised us to expect an update on the situation within two weeks. To be honest, I won't hold my breath. I've already written it off in my mind.
While this incident was and still is sickening, it is not catastrophic. We had been putting money away here and there over the past year or more - it was supposed to be an emergency cash fund that had become too large.
If anything, this experience serves as a lesson on the reliability of ATMs for cash deposits.
For decades, anxiety weighed heavily on my shoulders, and I was consumed by worry. Reflecting back twenty-five or so years, I remember feeling utterly distraught if something like this had happened, as if I were trapped in a storm of uncertainty. Now, however, a profound sense of calm envelops me. I’ve discovered tranquility within myself, and I truly appreciate this newfound version of me.
With heartfelt gratitude, I express my profound thanks to God, and Him alone, for transforming me from the inside out.

I know all ATM's are not equal, but I have never had that problem with ours. I do hope the mistake is rectified. Love the photo of the fence and the oleanders behind. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
We, too have never had an issue. I hope we prevail!
DeleteYou are so blessed, God has given you peace!! The Oleanders and the fence is a beautiful shot; just the way the sun is shining on it. I once saw a show where someone was poisoned by Oleander; it is deadly but beautiful. We have none here, I would love to see it close up.
ReplyDeleteOleanders are toxic if you ingest them. I wouldn’t have them if I had young children and my dog or other cats don’t like them. They seem to instinctively know. Their flowers are beautiful and we never have to water them. Extremely drought resistant.
DeleteOh Debby, I am so sorry to hear about the financial problem. I believe the bank will eventually find the error and make it right. That was a real bummer. It was a good reminder to me to never put a cash deposit through an ATM. I hope your breakfast casserole turned out well. Your photo with the fence and flowers is lovely, just the way it is! Thanks for your visits and comments on Writing Straight from the Heart. I appreciated them very, very much. Sincerely, Susan
ReplyDeleteI’m praying they find the error. Thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteVery beautiful photo of the fence and the oleanders. I kind of like the "dirty" fence. It has character! However, yes, as you already know, oleanders are poisonous, but not just if your ingest them. If they burn the smoke is also poisonous, just to be aware...but yes, they are beautiful and I see a lot of them here in Florida. I guess because they are drought resistant as you said. Oh, that ATM debacle...so sorry to hear, but I am sure they will fix it when they realize their balances don't match up to receipts. Praying it is so. And I know you will miss your Bible Study group over the summer. We will also not have our Bible study over the summer, but ours is a church group and we will still see each other at church. I wish I could've taken the Revelation course with you. I don't do well with online courses, however. I prefer being there in person. My attention span isn't long enough for online stuff. I get too distracted, and I miss the interaction with others.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful rest of your week, and praying the money will all be accounted for. Yes, God is in control and therein is PEACE!! Amen.
Well we’re not allowed to burn our garden debris anyway but yes I already knew that.
DeleteMy ladies Bible study at church meets in the summer and I will be leading a few times when our teacher goes on vacation. We’re studying Isaiah.
The online zoom classes are fun for those who live too far away. We have one zoom leader and she has members here and on the east coast. That’s a fun way to meet new people. I’m considering that in a few years.
I doubt I could be peaceful about being short changed $500 so good for you! That s something that should be resolve as soon as they balance the ATM. The oleander bushes are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI’m more sick about it than anything. That much cash should have never been deposited at the ATM. Not much I can do and nothing is worth the stress from worrying about it.
DeleteI used to work as a teller decades ago. They were upset if we didn't balance to the penny. I hope that is still true today. So sorry.
ReplyDeleteYour bible study looks good - we didn't do that particular one - but one similar!
Rest.
That’s the way it should be. We’ll soon find out.
DeleteLOL...I never use an ATM. maybe because the bank is too handy for us, since we only live 2 blocks away. At first, I thought the blooms were from a pomegranate bush, but I can see that the oleanders are blooming. Mine did not make it this year..Surprisingly, I had two that froze. Finding Peace is so important for us to live a quality life. You are an amazing lady and I am always so very blessed in reading your daily post...
ReplyDeleteIf you knew me 25+ years ago… I made myself sick with worry. My husband has a wonderful calming effect on me plus I have an amazing God.
DeleteYour attitude about losing the $500 is admirable, Debby. I can't say at all that I'd be so calm about it. On the bright side, the oleanders are beautiful! Hope you have a wonderful day, my friend!
ReplyDeleteIt’s truly the work of the Holy Spirit - I’m experiencing His peace and believe me, this is NOT in my nature.
DeleteGlad you got your breakfast done for your brunch. Sorry to hear about the money you lost. I'm happy to hear about your sense of calm.
ReplyDeleteI work for a major bank and I would NEVER deposit any cash into an ATM. I hope you get your money back. Janice
ReplyDeleteAfter our fraud debacle last year, I am skittish about anything to do with banking. I always go into the bank for even small deposits and for getting funds. Living bare bones financially has put us in that crazy position.
ReplyDeleteLove your fence and oleanders. I guess I am partial to the flowers since my maiden name is Leander. (:0)
Hope the Teen Challenge guys did a great job for you today.
2 hours in the backyard pulling weeds with plenty of sit down breaks was my limit. Baby steps but it is slowly looking more like a lived in house than abandoned property..haha

Your sausage scramble sounds like a dish I'd head for first ... with forks in both hands! Oh my, that ATM mix-up leaves me stunned; I hope by now they'll have discovered and corrected the error. I mean, it has to, right? I'd feel strongly led to talk to their (bank) examiners. You're so right about giving it to God.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the idea of depositing money through an ATM, I would much prefer to do in person over the counter so know it is right.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment today on my Blog post "Donate a Prayer". I have responded more fully there.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hope you get the $500 back!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that happened to your husband, Debby. I won't do any ATM transactions, and they always mention to me that's it's available, as I'm sure it's easier on them, but no thank you. Your attitude towards this incident is very peaceful, and I do hope that you get this refund coming back to you soon. Your flowers are blooming nicely, and I really like that first photo with the white fence, dirty or not. That's just the norm living up here in the mountains. Something always gets dirty, so we are out there cleaning. I enjoy your "this and that" posts very much. A little of this and that is what makes what makes the world go 'round. ; )

Wonderful that you found the calm. That's the best. Nice to read that you plowed through the breakfast making. And thank you for your comment about Bug. We miss her bunches.
