And they're off...🥾🥾🥾

they go...👇👈
After much anticipation, the 32-hour backpacking trip has finally arrived, and I feel a mix of relief and exhaustion. The past two weeks have been filled with my husband's endless talk and $pending on extra gear, much of which he didn’t even pack. Men and their hobbies.
🏕️ It almost didn’t happen.
The Pastor informed my husband that he couldn’t use his bike on the trail due to the enforcement of forestry service restrictions. (No bikes on trails) Then, the driver scheduled to take them suddenly announced he would be very late. My husband faced tough choices:
1. Pack his CPAP machine, a burdensome necessity.
2. Go without it, risking poor sleep and safety 😴
3. Bow out of the trip entirely.
Just when it looked bleak, my youngest son, Navy, stepped in and offered to carry his devices. With both sons' help, they can lighten his load and set off a bit ahead of schedule.
❄️🌨️
The weather has turned colder, with temperatures dropping to a predicted 28 degrees in the Trinity Alps. (Thanks Alaska) Fortunately, they are well-prepared in long johns and thermal sleeping bags rated to 10 below. It will be my husband’s first time sleeping in a hammock instead of a tent - a risky decision that piques my curiosity about what his Chiropractor will think! 😬
😎😎

I searched my Google Photos for this image from a past Summer Solstice at the Sundial Bridge, capturing a yoga class that arrived just in time to observe it.
Nestled in my river town, the Sundial Bridge elegantly spans the Sacramento River, serving as a picturesque gateway to the scenic River Trail. This architectural marvel is celebrated as one of the largest functioning sundials in the world, attracting visitors year after year who gather to revel in its beauty and significance.
For me, the summer solstice is a reminder of God as the Master Creator of all things, intricately crafting the sun, moon, and stars, as described in Genesis. The ebb and flow of the seasons, along with the celestial dance of heavenly bodies, compose a vivid tapestry of His magnificent creation. Through this lens, I find a deep appreciation for the beauty and order of the natural world, which reflects God's boundless creativity and power.
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Psalm 19:1
Have fun guys!

What a trip your family will be on..so glad the "boys" are helping your hubby out to make things easier for him. God is going to do some very special times for their hike.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have a wonderful breather too. Enjoy every minute.
I'm so glad I finally got to see and walk across the SunDial Bridge 3 years ago. Its so beautiful.
Enjoying our cool day too as we recover from the wild activity of the last week. Well worth it but we are kind-a pooped.
Sue
I bet you are pooped from last week’s endeavor. Sometimes something like that wipes me out for several days after.
DeleteThank you for introducing us to the Sundial Bridge. I had never heard of it. Very picturesque!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad your fellas were able to make the trip. It sounds like a perfect activity for those who like to do that sort of thing (me, I like to be back at home in my own bed by bedtime).
Good blog post. Thanks for sharing!
I’m with you, Barbara. The thought of bugs, freezing weather and no bathroom facilities does not appeal to me. I welcome their desire to go off and do guy stuff. I can stay home with my fur babies, eat what I want and just relax.
DeleteI hope your guys have a marvelous time and that they can fully enjoy God's wondrous creation while they hike. Enjoy your "me" time, Debby! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI’m sure they’ll have a blast. And yes, I shall enjoy my “me”time!
DeleteOh what fun they will have, if they don't freeze first! That's pretty cold for camping...but I am sure they will be find. Boys will be boys. It's quite warm here today for the first day of summer. Says its only 92, but it feels much hotter, and my car thermometer read 100 degrees when I went out a w hile ago to pick up the pizza that I am cooking in our oven, heating the house up! Thank the Lord for AC!! Can't wait to hear all about their camping trip. I hope they will bring you pictures to share. Meanwhile, relax and enjoy your quiet time at home! Happy Summer!
ReplyDeleteIt’s so nice here but a little windy. The short time they’re away goes by so fast. I’m sure my husband will take some pictures!
DeleteHappy summer back at you!
I do hope they have a safe and fun trip! You have yourself a merry time too, Debby. We need alone time as well. It balances us - we are always taking care of others, and it brings us a little joy taking care of ourselves. ; ) That last picture of Foodie is fantastic. There's nothing like having nature surround you from all corners.

He absolutely loves it.
DeleteIt sounds like everything came together according to (God's) plan.
ReplyDeleteIt sure did!
DeleteAll I can say is amazing. He was really committed to go. I do not think that either child of mine would or could do that for their dad. What a GIFT.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasant surprise for sure. It really touched us.
DeleteI'm so glad your boys have offered to help - says so much about who they are! I hope they all have a blessed time, enjoying the beauty of God's creation!
ReplyDeleteThey both are very caring young men that just happen to work with the geriatric community and that’s good for us! 🤣
DeleteI pray all goes well, they are safe, and have a great time. >)
ReplyDeleteI’m looking at the weather temps - right now it’s 55 and windy. I hope my husband doesn’t mind getting rocked to sleep.
DeleteHope the men have a wonderful hike. So wonderful that the boys are there to lend a hand.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Oh I have a feeling they’ll all be talking about it for awhile.
DeleteThankfully, things worked out for your husband to be able to make this trip, one that I know he had been preparing for and looking forward to. How awesome that the guys made this all work out for him. This will be a new adventure sleeping in a hammock. You will have a lot to post about next week. Enjoy your time alone and enjoy the nice weather.
ReplyDeleteImagine sleeping in a hammock in the wind…
DeleteOur pastor likes to go backpacking with men from the church. He likes to go by Mt Whitney. I went hiking at Lake Tahoe a few years ago and was happy to do it even though we did not pack enough water. It lasted longer that we planned, and we were afraid to drink the water from the small waterfall. We survived and I have a great memory! I am glad your sons could help your husband out. Hava a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteYikes, 28 *. Wow. keeping in prayer for safe travels, I can't wait to hear all about their trip, smiles. Wishing you a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI wish them safe hiking and His protection as they have a wonderful time together as for myself I would much rather be like you. Home Alone!!!! YAY enjoy your day
ReplyDeleteI'm not an accomplished hiker, but this makes me want to pack a bag and head for the Trinity Alps! I'm so happy that these seeming hurdles didn't stop your husband from experiencing (what must feel like) an exhilarating time. I can't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of the sundial bridge, it sounds amazing, me and hiking not a good mix
ReplyDeleteGood morning, sounds like an exciting trip for the guys. growing up at home my Mom had planned hiking and camping adventures every summer-somehow I never got the chance to do that again-after I left home for college. My husband's health has always limited that and not something I would do myself.
ReplyDeleteHappy new week
