Restless Soul, Renewed Purpose

What Happens When the Routine Ends? Finding Meaning After BSF
I’ve been feeling off-kilter lately. After some reflection, I realize I feel lost due to the absence of the familiar structure that BSF provided. Without that framework, I’m searching for direction and clarity.
While yard work and chores offer a good outlet, I yearn for something more fulfilling. The quick little devotions I’ve been doing feel insufficient, and I’m restless to embark on a deeper exploration.

Last week, our Women's church Bible study leader announced a summer hiatus, much to our dismay. Many of us treasure our weekly gatherings and the deep discussions, making the thought of a break from studying Scripture unsettling. We’ve always dedicated our summers to diligent study, and this change feels disheartening.
While I believe we’ll find a way to gather again, it won’t be the same without Shauna. She has a remarkable gift for teaching the Bible, bringing its teachings to life with clarity and passion. We’re expected to resume activities in August!
Meanwhile...

My Summer Game Plan
Yesterday afternoon, I found out that BSF had just uploaded the entire study for download. I was excited to dive into it before the Fall season starts on September 12. This was exactly what my restless soul was craving.

The People of the Promise / Exile and Return
Excerpt of the BSF INTRODUCTION notes
"Every human heart aches for a place to truly call home. Along the banks of the Euphrates River and
the canals of Babylon, the exiles wept together. Painful memories and waves of lament laced the air—
memories of their homeland burned to the ground, families torn apart, residences reduced to rubble.
As God led these wandering descendants of Abraham through the wilderness all the way into the
promised land, they carried the seed of God’s promised Savior for all nations. This rebellious, resilient,
renowned people of promise had been established as the kingdom of Israel, divided into two nations,
demolished by foreign kingdoms, and carried into exile. Powerless to restore their nation and protect
themselves, they were now scattered to the farthest corners of the known world.
Far from home, many Israelites believed their failure was fatal. As they stood banished on foreign soil
remembering the ruins, many accepted their captivity as irreversible and their devastation as final. All
hope was lost. Or was it?
But God. He is the One who:
● Restores valleys of dry bones to life
● Raises prophets to speak truth
● Positions His people for His purposes
● Moves pagan monarchs to send His people home
● Empowers leaders to courageously shepherd His people
● Intervenes in desolation to bring hope and restoration
This God restored a remnant of His people to their land, overcoming opposition and proving the
promise of a divine homecoming. The prophecies bore fruit. The Babylonian Empire crumbled. A
Persian king decreed. A remnant returned.
Leaders such as Ezra, Haggai, Zechariah, Joshua, Zerubbabel, and Nehemiah led the people to return
to the Lord, rebuild broken walls, and revive their worship."
I can hardly contain my excitement as I eagerly start this study this afternoon.
I pray we never lose our hunger for God's Word
Debby
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” (Romans 15:4)

Thanking God that this happened! For you, and I know others that are really missing this journey into the word! Gorgeous flowers!
ReplyDeleteI’m feeling back on track

I’m definitely a Bible carnivore. 🤣🥩
DeleteI know what you mean - our bible study ended for summer too and my other activities from church.
ReplyDeleteI bought a bunch of Christian books and doing ready every morning.
Your rose was GORGEOUS!
That’s good and a way to fill up those spaces that used to be study.
DeleteHow exciting, Debby! Just more proof that God hears our prayers and faithfully answers. We truly are made whole by delving into His word. The study sounds fantastic. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWell I know I am. I feel more alive!
DeleteThat's going to be a good study!
ReplyDeleteLove your flowers.
I like my flowers, too
DeleteThe Chosen Livestream is about to start in three hours I believe, Season 5, episode 3. Just wanted you to know. That pink rose is perfect. What a wonderful photo. And I can smell your lavender from here. Thank you for sharing that special Romans verse.

We’re watching it on Amazon. Thanks for thinking of me! 🌹
DeleteThat sounds like a wonderful Bible Study! I'm so happy for you that it arrived right on time to give you a solid purpose for the summer months. But it's also nice to take time to smell the roses and admire the beauty around you. You have a lovely yard and such beautiful flowers. That is also a wonderful summer blessing. But I do know what you mean. We are taking some time away from our church activities right now while we wait on hubby's medical issues and diagnosis, etc. We just needed some time away from the structure of classes/church services, etc. for a little while. But I know we are getting anxious to return. All in God's perfect timing. Sometimes a bit of a rest/sabbatical is as good for the soul as well as all the church/worship activity. It helps us appreciate what we have so much more. Have a lovely rest of your summer.
ReplyDeleteCan Bible study be a hobby? Because it doesn’t feel like a chore. I love it and of course I always take time to smell the roses. That’s one way to recharge!
DeleteDebby, how great that you have the materials for the study far in advance. This will give you time to dig in deep and gain a lot of knowledge before the session begins. I believe the Holy Spirit stirs our souls when there is a plan ahead of us. Beautiful photos of your flowers...love the light pink of the rose...
ReplyDeleteI was beginning to feel depressed and couldn’t figure out why. I don’t like that feeling.
DeleteSo very glad for you that you can continue your studies through the Summer months. Janice
ReplyDeleteI can work at my own pace and still enjoy summer. Keeps my mind occupied.
DeleteI am so glad that you found something to fill what could have been missing for the summer. Enjoy the Bible Study.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks Jackie. I’m enjoying it and can still enjoy the summer months as well.
DeleteIf you start now you will be well-prepared for Fall :-)
ReplyDeleteI like being prepared.
DeleteI am so happy they did this so you can have what you desire to study. you must be a true scholar, my brother is one, he has his entire dining room all 4 walls, shelved floor to ceiling in books and he studies all the time. enjoy your study and they will think you are super smart when you go back in the fall
ReplyDeleteHardly a scholar just an eager student that actually enjoys studying.
DeleteBeing well prepared in the fall is one of the benefits when that time of year gets hectic.
Glad that turned up for you. We just started a new study last night at church - Moses.
