A Fun, Family Gathering on the Fourth

Every now and then, the wildlife/fire camera captures some interesting things, besides fires. This bug was caught on the lens of a wildlife camera right in our area.
We had an absolutely fantastic family gathering, filled with boisterous chatter as everyone tried to outdo one another in conversation. The laughter was infectious! My two sons, who are natural comedians, know exactly how to make me laugh until my sides hurt. Although they're missing one-third of their brotherly dynamic, it warms my heart to see the bond they share. I'm so grateful they have each other! I just know Michael is with them in spirit.
Sara kicked off our gathering with her delicious Strawberry-Lemonade Limoncello Spritz - it was refreshing and surprisingly delightful, especially for someone like me who isn’t usually a fan of mixed drinks and hasn't had one in decades! She crafted a lighter version for me, packed with ice, and it hit the spot!
We enjoyed savoring two varieties of chicken wings, savory drumsticks, hot dogs nestled in soft buns, and juicy brats. The potato salad, along with all the classic trimmings—watermelon, fruit salad, that perfectly, rounded out our Americana spread.
Laydee joined the fun. However, I have to say, poor Ed and Harry camped out in other corners of the house, which meant I didn’t get to enjoy any quality time with my contrary Grandkitties! All in all, it was a lively day filled with good food and good company!
I mentioned their electric stove caught on fire - well, the old electric stove is toast! (The white stuff is the fire-extinguisher) However, they went out that evening and bought a new stove, which is scheduled to arrive next Thursday. It's one of those flat-top models, and it features an air fryer function. Imagine that? I immediately asked her what she was going to do with this one.

It's Mine!
She said, I could take their old one, which is so awesome! I've really admired it since they got it. It's larger than what we actually need, but I can't turn down something FREE! I'll get it once they get their stove.
This incredible appliance does more than just air-fry; it also has the ability to dehydrate! And surprisingly, it’s only slightly larger than my bread machine, making it a perfect addition to my kitchen. I'll have to rearrange things. We probably won't need our toaster anymore, since it also doubles as a toaster oven.
I'm excited because I just got a new toy for my kitchen counter, and it was free! Can't wait to put it to use and hopefully whip up some new, tasty dishes.
Today, we're lounging around, feeling a bit tired. I'm halfway through an intriguing book while my husband dives into his Tikvah classes via Zoom. It's the perfect day to relax. We're still enjoying some pleasantly cooler-than-normal summer temperatures right now! Today, we're grateful it's only 94 degrees, which leads to cooler mornings and evenings. Before we go to bed, it's the perfect opportunity to turn off the AC and open the windows. That's a treat this time of the year!
But hold on...next week, those sizzling triple digits are making a comeback!
Talk with you later -
Debby
Heavenly Father, we come to You with heavy hearts for those affected by the Texas flood. We pray for families facing loss and ask for Your comfort, especially for the missing children. Strengthen the rescue teams and guide their efforts. Please provide shelter, food, and emotional support to those impacted. May Your people reflect Your love to those in need. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

What a wonderful time spent with those you love. How lovely that you are going to get the air fryer. Enjoy, and I hope you get lots of use out of it. Being able to dehydrate is one of the joys of my life. Herbs from the garden dehydrated immediately are the best.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Jackie, I immediately thought of you when I heard it dehydrates! I’m looking forward to that.
DeleteYour Fourth of July reflections remind us how fortunate we are to enjoy family gatherings and community spirit, even amid challenges like wildfires. It’s a testament to resilience and the importance of coming together safely to celebrate traditions. I just shared a blog post you are invited to read thank you

Yes family celebrations are truly special.
DeleteIt sounds like a wonderful day! I love reading about your boys goofing off and making you laugh. It does a moms heart good.
ReplyDeleteHooray for the air fryer. You will love it!
So sad about those floods. We're praying too.
It really does make my heart glad! Yeah I’m excited about the air fryer.
DeleteSo let me get this straight. The large oven was burned up. But the new one has an air fryer, so they gave you their countertop big air fryer toaster oven, right? It looks really, really fancy!! Love the vulture shot!
ReplyDeleteYes that is right!
DeleteIt sounds as though you had a wonderful family time.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for the emergency workers who are on hand on holidays to stop trouble before it gets a hold.
When it is within the city they put all fire personnel on a fire to keep it from burning other houses. Our firefighters are hero’s and give up their family time for others.
DeleteYour holiday sounded really nice...and wow on the stove catching fire, I wonder how that happens? Keeping Texas in prayer.
ReplyDeleteIt was either a grease fire or a faulty electrical coil in the burner.
DeleteThe air fryer looks interesting. I'll check if we have that make/model in the UK. God bless.
ReplyDeleteIt’s not a bad price either. Of course this one is about 5 years old but I’ll take it anyway. They said it still works good.
DeleteGlad you had a fantastic July 4th! Your food sounded wonderful. So did that drink. We have grilled every day this weekend thus far, but today storms are coming in, so will make something to pop in the oven. We had grilled bacon burgers, and bbq pork each day with antipasto salad, devilled eggs and veggie crescents. So sad about the flooding. I heard the toll is at 59 with still more missing. So sad. I pray for everyone. I hate vultures. I know they are here for a purpose though. We have turkey vultures here and when Tundra was a pup, once they were circling around him. Thankfully I was outside watching him and swooped him up and took him back inside. They would have got him for sure. Janice
ReplyDeleteWe have the turkey vultures too.
DeleteMy heart aches for those in Texas and I echo your prayer.
ReplyDeleteYou really had a wonderful 4th. Love the laughter and yummy food.
We pretty much had a lazy day, mostly because neither of us had any energy and we think that Dave's Diverticulocius is returning. Sigh... stuff never ends.
We had hot dogs, baked beans and watermelon. Perfect for us.
Stayed home from church today and are just playing everything by ear.
hugs
Sue
We all need lazy now and again!
DeleteSounds like a great time with family.
ReplyDeleteWow that is some nice air fryer. I'm sure you'll love it. Mine is much smaller. I'd love to have one like yours.
It was a wedding gift and I liked it from the start. I’ll take ownership of it as soon as they get their new stove/ oven.
DeleteSo glad you enjoyed beautiful weather and a grand, joyful time with your family, Debby. I've been praying non-stop for all those families in Texas who have lost children and adults alike. May God comfort them and heal their broken hearts. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteIt’s tragic. I’ve never seen such a terrible flood.
DeleteWonderful day for sure. I want to look up that drink and how to make it. Horrible Texas floods and loss. I have been in two fires - why in CA in the forest do they shoot firecrackers - it should be illegal. And that poor stove. But love the air fryer you are going to get.
ReplyDeleteIt is illegal in our county to shoot off fireworks. But anyone can buy them off the native Americans - it’s legal on tribal lands. Kids will do firecrackers anywhere. It was a 10 year old boy.
DeleteI'm so glad you all enjoyed a delightful time, Debby! Sara's spritz sounds mighty tempting ... as does your new air fryer.
ReplyDeleteLifting prayers for firefighters and first responders!
It was refreshing
DeleteLooks like you spend the day perfectly.. I'm not a fan of the crowds either.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger I enjoyed crowds - not so much anymore.
DeleteI am so happy you had such a great 4th, I took the prayer for Texas and posted it on my Facebook page, hope that's ok with you
ReplyDeleteOf course it’s okay!
DeleteOh dear....so sorry about the older oven and thankful that there was not damage to their kitchen. What. a great blessing for you to get the older air fryer. I rarely cook in my air fryer, but this is due to the change of foods that Sam can now eat. The drink sounds wonderful and refreshing...maybe you can share the recipe with us.. I sure hope that the fires in California are contained....Prayers for all that are in the areas and for the firefighters. Thank you for the prayers for Texas. so heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy other people’s hand me downs!
DeleteSounds like you had a wonderful 4th! The food sounds delicious, and I love Brats. You know, we also had a small fire up here, but they put it out quickly, and I'm thankful that they put out the ones in your area too. yaaay, for the new stove. Now, I'm confused, will you be getting the black stove or the silver toaster oven? Love that little turkey that was caught on the webcam. So glad to hear your sons made you laugh til your belly hurt. I know what you mean. They sure do have a way with their mamas. ; )
ReplyDelete~Sheri
They are replacing the black stove because it caught on fire. It’s toast! Because their new stove has an air fryer built into it, along with a regular oven and Convection oven, they are giving me their stainless steel air fryer with the fresh doors!
DeleteSounds like a fantastic 4th of July celebration. We have a combination oven, toaster, broiler, air fryer similar to the one you showed. I love it. I especially like it for cooking bacon and pretty much anything that needs an oven. So nice to not have to use the big one right now in this hot weather!
