A Few This and or Thats

Last night, I unexpectedly woke up, which is quite unusual for me. It took a while to drift back to sleep, and I realized it was because I had some important decisions on my mind. I finally narrowed it down to a couple of things...

I've decided to give myself time to consider my decision about the Loop Recorder device carefully. My next appointment is in 6 months. I will most likely have it done.

Many of you had never heard of it, so in a nutshell, this is what it is:🥜

An implantable loop recorder (ILR) is a small device placed under the skin on the left side of the chest to monitor heart rhythms. It helps detect causes of fainting, palpitations, and abnormal heartbeats, similar to an electrocardiogram (ECG). The device can record heart activity for up to 3 years, making it useful for infrequent episodes of fainting for me and arrhythmias for others. It constantly loops its memory, automatically storing recordings of anything abnormal, and can also be activated by the patient. If fainting occurs, the ILR captures data before, during, and after the event, allowing healthcare providers to analyze the causes. Most ILRs also come with a home monitor that transmits data to your healthcare provider.

Fainting is the main focus.

Plus, I just signed up at the Y, and I want to make sure I can swim. If I get the device now, it will disrupt my swimming for 10 days - right when I’m getting started. The procedure is quick—only about 10 minutes, not counting preparation and aftercare. After that, I need to be careful for about 10 days to prevent infection. I can do most everyday activities, but I should avoid heavy lifting, reaching overhead, and swimming.

August feels like such a long month! But then time goes by so fast...that doesn't even make any sense❓❓❓ Anyway one more week, and 2 days, and we’ll be welcoming September! Today’s temperature reached 106 - we haven't hit our peak, and it’s a bit cooler than yesterday. This morning, we enjoyed the fresh air on the front patio in the 60s. But as soon as the sun started rising, it was getting very hot—time to go inside.

My husband set out for a lovely morning at the lake. (Whiskeytown) I visited Ed and Harry to feed them, but they didn’t come out to say hello this time. I think they miss their mommy and daddy a bit. Then I headed out into the grocery store. Everyone had the same idea - to get up and out before it got too hot.

Yesterday, my pot pedestal didn’t hold up under the weight of the birdbath, and the midday heat of 108, but I can still use it for plants! It just collapsed! Amazing, the cement birdbath didn't break. I shared with my husband the idea of using some bricks or a similar material for a pedestal support.

When did contentment become something that needed fixing?

It's time for me to throw something together for dinner, or we'll grab something out and call it dinner.
May you all have a wonderful, relaxing weekend, filled with the freedom to do what gives you JOY or to embrace contentment. Doing what you want - or nothing at all.

For those who have some prayer needs, know that I am thinking of you and praying for your situation.

    1. We’re about 15 minutes away and sometimes we go out there and watch the sunset or clouds. It’s so quiet and peaceful.

  3. Oh no! I'm so sorry about your birdbath. It looked so nice but glad the birdbath itself survived.
I think the loop is a good idea, hopefully it could figure out those fainting spells.
    Whiskeytown lake is gorgeous!

    1. Yeah it is a good idea. Honestly I think my passing out is from low blood pressure that plummets during certain conditions. I guess it would be better if they knew more precisely. It could save my life.

  4. I have not heard of that monitor before. it's amazing how they can monitor you like that. Sorry about your birdbath pedestal breaking. I for a fountain spray for my birthday but the birds are always in them. I guess I need to get another birdbath. That is a pretty picture!

    1. I usually sleep solid. But my mind wouldn’t shut down for the night. I really try to resolve as much as I can before sleep because good solid sleep is very important to me and it’s healthy and good for our heart.

  7. Oh no on your birdbath. I have had mine for almost 25 years but we dont get 108 degree temps here either. I hope you find a solution to fixing it. I know my birds here love it when I change the water daily for them. The lake is so beautiful. God made beautiful places all over the world for us to enjoy. Janice

  8. I enjoyed your little signs of this and that. My birdbath did the very same thing a few years ago...I've just never bothered to replace it. Loop...I have a great niece who has this. She is only 21 but has some health issues and for this reason she has the loop. Prayers that this gives some answers Debby.

  9. Thanks for all your this and that info in this post, Debby. Very informative concerning that implanted device to monitor your fainting spells. I sure hope that will provide your doctors with just the stats they need to treat you successfully. Prayers!

  10. I just think you should pray for guidance on whether to do the monitor or not. You have expressed some valid viewpoints. The photo from Whiskeytown is beautiful. Try to stay cool with the heat you're having. Yes, September! I am so ready for it. ; )

  11. I'm so glad you explained that 'loop'! Modern technology can be exasperating sometimes, but I'm so appreciative of the medical advances. How exciting to be on the cusp of a whole new lease on life!

    1. Oh Barbara, it is a privilege and honor to pray for you.

      Heavenly Father,
I come before You to lift up my sister, Barbara. I ask for Your healing hand to be upon her, bringing comfort and peace to her heart. In the midst of her fear, remind her of Your constant presence and unfailing love. I pray for wisdom and guidance for the medical professionals caring for her, that they may have insight and skill in their work.

Lord, I know that You are the Great Physician, capable of all things, and I trust in Your perfect plan for Barbara's life. May she feel Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Thank You for being her refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

  13. That's so interesting on the loop. It would be good to monitor the spells you have and get some answers. The timing isn't the best though.
Sad on your birdbath but knowing you you will find a creative way to bring it back to life.
Yah, 108F is too hot for me as was 104F yesterday. I just turn into a puddle.
I do believe that my Dad was through with his shipyard welding by the time your FiL was doing it. Not too sure and there is no one I can ask any longer. Folks first home was in South San Francisco. There were post wartime subdivisions popping up all over the place. It was a really nice home but the last time I went by it was in the late 60's. It was scary and had turned into the ghetto. We couldn't get out of there fast enough!

    1. Oh yeah, my husband was stationed at the Hunters Point Navy Shipyard for a year and half. 77-78 as his ship was being overhauled.
It was a very bad area you didn’t want to be there after dark! It’s all changed now.

  16. Thanks for explaining what the ILR does as I was clueless, I have only fainted once in my life back when I was expecting my first child. Yeah some months can seem long while passing quickly and yeah it doesn't make sense but that's how it seems. It's a shame the pot pedestal collapsed.

  17. What a fascinating monitor. There have been times in my life when I was prone to fainting for no apparent reason.
Stay out of the heat when you can and enjoy your weekend.

  20. What a beautiful place. I dream of visiting Mount Shasta, especially knowing that the civilization of Telos (ancient Lemuria) lies beneath it. It must be magical just to be there.
    Have a great Sunday. Hugs.

  21. I am guessing the weight of that birdbath was just too much for the pot. Something more solid will be much better of if you can find a sturdy metal stand, that might work too.

I miss the summer beach days at Whiskey Town. Jim and I almost always spent one weekend up your way with a beach day there and Sunday dinner at Peter Chu's with leftovers tucked into and ice chest on the way home and dinner again on Monday!

  22. thanks for the prayers and I think you made the right decision. have fun swimming. Bob swam 5 days a week at the Y for the past 25 years of retirement until 6 months ago and now the swimming is gone. do it while you can and enjoy
