Tuesday 4 - Inquiring Minds Want to Know
Inquiring Minds Want to Know
Hello! You are so welcome here at Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
I hope you are enjoying the questions and the chance to blog about your likes, dislikes and opinions and find out about those of other people. Be sure to visit around. That is part of the fun.
Let's inquire about stuff....
1. What gets your blood to boiling?
Bullying
In school, I noticed two boys, Barry and Robin, bullying the more timid classmates. It irritated me to see everyone just stand by and watch instead of stepping in to help.
That's how my journey as a fighter began! Throughout grade school up to 8th grade, I earned a reputation for stepping up in tough situations on the playground or on the school bus. While I never initiated the fights, I always finished them—often with a few bumps and bruises along the way! That adrenaline rush kept me going even if it meant a busted lip and a visit to the orthodontist. I was even suspended for fighting. My mom hated it because she wanted me to be this frilly girl- whereas my dad would just affectionately call me "Tiger". He knew I had just had passion for the underdog. I did outgrow it before HS, but the guys would tease me in a fun way and call me Bruiser. Hey, at least they noticed me!
While exploring Facebook when it first came on the scene, everyone was reconnecting with high school friends, I stumbled upon Terry. I reached out to see if he remembered me, and he replied, "Of course! You kicked my butt a few times, and I totally deserved it!" It was wonderful to reconnect, and we became great friends during my time on the platform.
2.What does a really good day look like for you? What makes you say, "That was a great day"?
Every day pretty much is a great day unless I'm sick.
I enjoy going to bed at night thinking, "It was a great day," after completing a day of physical work like heavy-duty gardening or painting.
3. Are you continuing to grow mentally, spiritually, talent wise or are you just marking time?
I believe I am. I love to learn many different things -
4. Have you changed your hair style since high school? Why or why not?
In high school, I had med-long hair. After graduation, I experimented with shoulder-length styles, including the iconic "Farrah Fawcett" look. Then I went with a Dorothy Hamill look when I had my boys. Eventually, I grew it long again, past my waist, until 2019, when I decided to switch things up and cut it short.
I was just mentioning to my husband that I want a new style.

Wow, your story about standing up to bullies is truly inspiring. It's so easy for people to look the other way, but you had the courage to step in and do the right thing. It's no wonder your dad called you "Tiger." You've always had a real fire in you for what's right, and that's something to be proud of. Reconnecting with Terry after all that time and hearing him say you deserved to kick his butt is just a perfect ending to that story.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the new hairstyle you're looking for. It's always fun to switch things up.
I've just published a new post on my blog. I would be honored if you would take a look at www.melodyjacob.com.
Yes I still have that fire for those who are bullied and oppressed. While I can’t physically step in I do have a voice. Thanks for stopping by and I’ll check out your post. God bless, Melody
DeleteWhat a lovely looking girl you were - not a Bruiser at all!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Well by that time I had stopped taking on the world of bullies by fighting. But I still have that fire in me.
DeleteI always enjoy reading the answers as I get to know you more. I had pretty much the same hair styles you did. Janice
ReplyDeleteOh and the “big hair” in the early 90’s. I look at pictures and cringe.😬
DeleteBullying makes my blood boil too - good for you for sticking up for the underdog.
ReplyDeleteI could never grow my hair that long, but it did used to be quite a bit longer than I wear it now.
That’s why I detest women cliches in church - they don’t realize how that is a subtle form of bulling by being exclusive.
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by!! I look for JOY in everyday no matter what kind of day I am having!! Bullying is a big pet peeve, especially adult bullying which is now so prevalent in our society because of the examples of those in power....Glad that you enjoyed my post about my Kitchen vintage wares....

Yes, sadly, bullies are everywhere -
DeleteLike you, Bullying just really gets me fired up. There are so many different ways that kids and adults alike are bullied and this is one reason the ones doing the bullying can get by with so much. Just this week, I had to call the administration office of the home where my niece lives. This place is awesome, it really is, but no place is perfect. There is one person who teaches there and she has a tendency to stick her nose where it does not belong. My sweet niece had a small personal issue this past week and needed some help. Her teacher gladly took care of it and helped the way a teacher (especially of special needs students) should help. Later in the day, the one made it her business, decided to put her two cents in on the the situation that had already been taken care of....what she did and what she said was very degrading to T and was very uncalled for... Not the first time this happened. I decided that this needed to be taken care of so I did contact those in charge. They made sure that this was handled properly and assured me that it would not ever happen again... There is no place for bullying... sorry for my rant. I too think I need a different hairdo.... Have a great Tuesday Debby..
ReplyDeleteBullying is everywhere! I'm sorry your niece had to deal with that. It's good you came to her rescue and were her advocate. That is what needs to happen.
DeleteGorgeous photo, Debby! Yes, your hair was long and so attractive. I never want to stop learning and growing as long as I draw breath. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteSame with me. I completely relate! When I read, I’m drawn to real historical insights or timeless classics. With the limited time we have, I want to enrich my mind with knowledge that truly matters and uplifts me. There’s so much wisdom to discover, and I’m excited to embrace it all!
DeleteHello Debby, I just wanted to tell you how much it meant to me that you commented on my blog post! I was actually bullied by a few comments that I just deleted! We have lived through years of being told to sit down and shut - -! I will no longer take being bullied or not stick up for those I love ! Maybe I read too much LOL
ReplyDeleteI look forward to getting to know your heart! That sweet lady named Shug just has blessed me so much! After Blogging for 10 years, she reached out and inspired me to continue writing! What an amazing group of blogging friends you both seem a part of! Blessings, Roxy
DeleteThanks for dropping by, Roxy. Good blogging friends are truly a treasure! I think we all share warmth and a genuine care for each other, which creates a special connection. A blessing!
What a beautiful photo of you this is! And you are a real hero, helping so many victims in school! I wish you had gone to my school.
ReplyDeleteI never saw myself as a hero, but witnessing my classmates being bullied and others merely standing by was too much for me. It ignited a determination in me.
DeleteThis is a gorgeous photo of you! And what a hero you are. Helping so many victims in school. I wish you had gone to my school.
ReplyDeleteI was one of the ones that were bullied. Too bad I didn't go to school with you. :). You sure don't like like a fighter. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't look like a fighter back then, either - I was a petite child. Imagine me wearing a dress and fighting. That was before we could wear jeans to school. I remember one boy got me on the ground, and then pulled my dress up to show my underwear. That was very embarrassing for me, so after that, my mom had me wear shorts under my dress. I didn't fight once in HS. I had more verbal arguments. I'm glad those days are over. A busted lip when you have braces on your teeth hurt!
DeleteI love how you stood up to those bullies, "Bruiser"! (*giggle*)
ReplyDeleteWow, your high school photograph looks like an ad for a Breck Girl. Remember those?
Gosh I forgot all about them. Yes I do remember those girls. Thanks for the compliment. I don’t look like a Breck girl now. 😬
DeleteI wish more people stood up to bullies like you did. Perhaps there'd be fewer bullies in the world. I hope you find a good hairstyle now that you're ready for a change.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous picture!
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of bullying in school, but I have pre-k kids, so I am able to teach them to be nicer and explain how it is hurtful to treat people like that. It works with littles, but it is harder as the kids get older. I am glad you stood up to them. Loved your answers! Have a great week.

Somehow I can just imagine you stepping up and taking on a bully. They really anger me as well and our oldest son. Rather than use our fists we used words and that worked most of the time.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I think that was great that you fought the bullies. That is one thing I can't stand either. You were tough. I loved your long blonde hair and bet you look pretty now too.
