Just a little this and that
Guardian
They’re back!
Our Redding eagles 🦅 have arrived. At this time of year, coming off their summer vacay in the high country, they're back home, cleaning up their nest - hauling in sticks to cozy up their love shack. This is where they will commence their mating rituals, and, well, you know... I never realized how passionate they could be! They really are the epitome of love birds.
Egg laying won’t commence until late February through March.
Liberty returned to the nest for her first night -
Imagine, she comes into the nest and sees a mess! Probably wondering what the heck happened in here during her absence - the flurry of other birds and critters that have ventured into her nest - violating her carefully cultivated sanctuary.
I know I wouldn't like it!
Without a doubt, her mate, Guardian, has quite the to-do list of 'honey do's' to tackle before the exciting journey of egg laying can begin!
Max the apple-head chihuahua
On Saturday, we attended "Civil War" days at a nearby park. They even had reenactments happening. It was my first experience with this. I’ll write about it in a couple of weeks. I still have a lot of posts and photos saved in my drafts. Just haven't found the time...
This adorable chihuahua was just the cutest. Although I'm usually a fan of larger dogs, this little fellow, Max, was incredibly soft, well-cared-for, and so affectionate. As a child, I had an apple head chihuahua named Sassy, whom I loved dearly. My sister and I would often dress her up. I recall she would bark quite a bit, was very protective, and was sassy.
No, this isn’t my latest picture - while taking our late afternoon stroll the other day, we stumbled across a house that was adorned with an extravagant amount of Halloween decorations.
It's not really my preference, but it was fascinating to see all that they had and the lengths they went to for their decorations.
A unique fence - designed for establishing a graveyard.
It’s funny to remember that my mom would stick up three cardboard cutouts of two jack-o'-lanterns and a witch! She used the same ones year after year.
That was all there was to it, back then.
Simple.
I came across this information at BSF regarding Susie’s upcoming memorial. It has since been made public. I'm unsure if I will go. Events like these tend to make me quite emotional, and I prefer not to display those feelings in public. I'm sure it will be wonderful, featuring live Christian music and attendees from various places. Everyone cherished her.
I’ve added two more ladies to our BSF group, and that’s it. We meet in the Gym kitchen, and we’ve reached our limit. Too large a class, and we lose that intimacy.
Our first winter storm is approaching this weekend. While we'll experience only rain, areas at 5000 feet and higher in elevation will see snowfall, which is typical. Both Mt Lassen and Mt Shasta are currently covered in snow. It's always a lovely view, typically seen in late September or October.
We really enjoy our rainy seasons up here! Following a long, scorching, dry summer, it's what rejuvenates our region after 7-8 months without rainfall.
I'm planning to make some chili and bake. After this storm passes, we're looking at sunshine and mild temperatures until the next one comes in.
There's magic happening on my backyard hill as the leaves of this tree start to transform. Meanwhile, the sweetgum trees in front of the house are still holding onto their green, waiting for their moment to shine.
This tree is about to shed its leaves any moment now, likely right after this weekend's storm hits with the wind gusts.
In the backyard, some flowers are still blooming.
I never take them inside. I leave them there through the rainy season and will repot them in the spring. I've had this plant for several years now.
My gerbera daisy always pleases me.
A massive tomato plant is trying to choke out the Roses; however, we won't allow it to suffocate them. The tomato will get cut back. The roses have been here for at least 25 years. They've endured more challenging times...
The last of the lavender for this year. It bloomed 3 times this year.
Can you see the bee?
Yesterday, my husband went to the dentist about the tooth pain. So we're waiting on a referral to an Endodontist - the nearest one that takes our insurance in Chico, about 50 miles from us.
When loyalty to country becomes loyalty to a lie, one teen risks everything to expose the truth. With the Gestapo closing in, he must decide what it really means to be a good German.
A couple of my friends from my BSF study recommended this movie, especially since we've been having discussions about persecution and suffering, so my husband and I decided to purchase tickets to watch it last night. It's a true story. Although we don't often go to the movies, we support films like these that educate and enlighten.

So nice to see the eagles back! I'm not ready to see snow, but I'm afraid it won't be long. I like seeing your flowers more.
ReplyDeleteThat movie looks like one we would like too.
Hope your husband gets in soon. I'm sure he's tired of the tooth pain!
He’s not having the bad pain anymore thanks to the antibiotics.
DeleteI love that pink flower especially. I also LOVED that eagle. No snow here in GA. That movie looks interesting. I did see the bee. And I hope your husband gets in soon.
ReplyDeleteIt was very intriguing.
DeleteYour trees and flowers are so gorgeous!!! Especially the purple mums, and the lavender. I never heard of apple headed chihuahuas! But I think they are all feisty and believe they are much bigger than they really are! They are cute and loyal though.
ReplyDeleteThere’s apple, pear and deer head Chihuahuas. The AKA only recognizes the apple head.
DeleteThey are cute but my heart belongs to the big dogs!
i love the eagles' names. How nice it is to see them return each year. The flowers that continue to bloom at this time of year are precious, because rather solitary.
ReplyDeleteOur eagles are local celebrities. They’ve been returning year after year for 16 years.
DeleteGlad to see the Eagles are back. Hope they have a chick or two or more. Everyone around here decorates with those huge skeletons and witches. I do like seeing the lights in the morning when going to work. Hope your husband's dentist appt. goes well and sooner rather than later. Janice
ReplyDeleteLast year there were no eaglets which was a first.
Delete50 miles. Is that a long day for you guys driving? I hope he feels better soon. You cracked me up with the photo saying it wasn't the latest photo of you. Hahaha. Happy Halloween and boogie boogie.
ReplyDeleteYeah it’s about a 90 minute drive - half of which is a two lane highway through farmland and orchards.

DeleteThanks for sharing this wonderful info about the eagles, Debby. I had no idea they were such love birds, as you said. I don't blame you for not going to that memorial, either. I absolutely hate crowds and would find such a gathering difficult in more ways than one. And what makes an apple head Chihuahua different from a regular one? Just asking. Have a blessed day and tell your husband I hope he feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the live cam on YouTube doesn’t leave anything out! 🫣
DeleteYay...the eagles are back. We have seen one eagle down at the lake on the farm. they are so interesting to watch as they fly down to catch a fish. I counted yesterday while I was in town...9 of those taller skeletons in different places. In the back of jeeps and in front yards. I'm not a fan of them. Hope the tooth issue turns out good for your hubby... Love all the gorgeous flowers. The flowers around here have just about exhausted themselves from the heat. Happy Weekend..
ReplyDeleteThat’s why many are blooming now because they just stopped during the heat. The tomatoes stopped producing and now they’re going again. But with the sun at a lower angle they’re not getting the sun they need.
DeleteThank you so much for the prayers you sent to me in comments. It's means so much. Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI’m glad. I’m always willing to pray. 🙏🏻. God bless.
DeleteThat scary woman on your neighbor's yard is a bit much for me. I liked that snow picture. I can't believe Mount Shasta is covered in snow already. I'll have to drive down the highway and take the creek road to see. Your pink flowers are pretty and still blooming nicely. And your red roses are such a pretty shade of red. I'll have to check out that movie. I always enjoy a good movie based on true events.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend, Debby.

It just seems the culture we live in now celebrates death and the
Deletemacabre. I was watching something on Amazon prime and this scary ad came up for a horror film and let me tell you I had to close my eyes and mute it because it’s the stuff nightmares come from.
I am loving the eagles and their names are perfect . I sure hope there are chicks in the future.
ReplyDeleteIts wonderful that you have so many flowers still blooming. I love Gerbera daisies. I think I may have to try to grow some myself.
The weather people say 75% chance of rain for us this weekend. We'll see how that all pans out for us.
I hadn't heard of that movie. It looks really interesting, especially that its based on truth.
Sue
It’s been dreary all day but not so cold. We’ll see for tomorrow. I’m fixin chili no matter what!
DeleteOh, would you look at that snow ... yippee! (Well, maybe if I didn't have to drive in it.)
ReplyDeleteI'm so taken by that wee pup in the old-fashioned carriage/perambulator. Adorable! That movie looks like a winner. Since we never go to the theater anymore, I want ti look into subscribing to the Angel Studios films to stream.
Every few years we get snow here and it’s fun. It’s been a couple years so I’m hoping we get some this year. Everything looks like a winter wonderland when it snows.
DeleteGlad to see the Eagles back again. :). There are some of those Halloween decorations here too! Sorry but I think dogs in baby carriages are a bit much!!! :)
ReplyDeleteTo each his own -
DeleteI know all my past big dogs wouldn’t have stood for that. We used to dress our little dog Sassy and push her around in the doll stroller all dressed up in doll clothes and a bonnet. Very few dogs would allow that.
Good to see the eagles back, also such pretty flowers and I am glad it doesn't snow around my area.
ReplyDeleteI love it when they’re here.
DeleteYes!! How wonderful that the eagles are back. Hope you have lots of posts about them.
ReplyDeleteThat movie looks extremely interesting.
God bless.
It was interesting and a bit tense considering the time period. And a true story which I had no idea.
Deletebeautiful Eagle. Hope they have beautiful twins... I thought the picture of YOU, ha ha was a picture of me, from paparazzi taking it at 1 and when Bob wakes me up to get on the potty.. most Chihuahua are not friendly, but I have seen a few, this one made me want to snuggle him under my chin. My sons Chi made me want to toss him out the window.. they spoiled him so bad he was insufferable.
ReplyDeleteNo not me - I'd scare myself!
DeleteAll of your posts are interesting and enlightening. Love your pictures. Wish we could have some of your weather although the heat of our summer is finally gone and October is possibly the very best month of the year to be in Florida.
ReplyDeleteThe Gerbera Daisy is my fav of the plants you've shared this time. So pretty.
Thank you, Barbara. My favorite time of year in the Bay Area is September and October.
DeleteIt will be exciting to watch the eagles again! Your flowers are still so pretty! I haven't done a clean-up yet as my flowers are still so vibrant looking but frosty nights now will end that soon!
ReplyDeleteIt got cold this weekend with our first storm of the year but will warm up.
DeleteThose are some scary decorations. That is extremely interesting about the Eagles coming back. That dog looks really cute too.
ReplyDeleteThey have been doing that for 16 years. That is what eagles and some bird species do - they go back to their nest.
DeleteLovely flowers photos - yes, I eventually found the bee. It'll be great watching the eagles.
ReplyDeletePraying for you and your husband. God bless.
Thank you so much, Victor. Always nice knowing someone is praying for us. God bless you!
DeleteYou saw the Falls on Christmas Day?!! That would be awesome. I want to see them when it snows, and I must see them during the winter season too. But that gets a bit tricky, cause I have to go right after a snow, and after they plow the roads for me to get there! But it's something that I've always wanted to do. And when you told me you went in winter, that inspired me. : )
ReplyDeleteYes, the first year we moved here, Dec 2008, it was cold and there was snow on the roads, but they were clear. A passerby took a photo of the four of us. I do remember the walkway down was icy in spots.
DeleteHi, can you believe it is the last week of October, the year is flying by!! We have enjoyed amazing weather this October, that has been a true treat for us Wisconsin folks. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI always say to my husband, "those that go WAY OUT to decorate for Halloween, I wonder what they will do for Christmas." In our neighborhood Halloween is getting bigger than Christmas.
Thank you for the movie recommendation.
IT sure doesn't feel like it. The year is flying by so fast that I don't know if I should celebrate or run and hide! I'm glad you all are having a nice weather in Wisconsin. Enjoy it while it lasts.
DeleteActually, that one house, they keep their Halloween decorations up through the holidays.
Love the eagle photos and the stories.
ReplyDeleteWe have had rain, wind and freezing temperatures. The tomatoes are dead and so is the basil. But the dianthus in the pots on the front porch are happily blooming.
I am glad that many people are celebrating Suzie Smith's life.
We had our first storm this weekend with a good amount of rain. But it's passed now, and we're dry for the rest of the week. Yes, it is touching that so many will be in attendance that they rented the Civil Auditorium. Wow, what a testament.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post about the eagles, and I am happy to see they are back. I hope they have a productive "season" of love. I love the pictures of your flowers still blooming. Yes, it seems like October is the last great hurrah for the flowers before the colder weather sets in. We still need rain here so badly. Just to the south of us they got over 20" in about 5 hours, which was terrible for them with flooding, etc., and yet here, about one hour north, we got barely enough to make a puddle. Strange. And of course, no chance of any snow here anywhere! LOL. I'm not crazy about the Halloween decorations people are doing these days...just too much "horror" for me. I like the simple pumpkins and scarecrows. That's what I'll put out on Halloween when the little trick or treaters come to our house. I do enjoy seeing the children in their fun costumes. It's a chance to say hello to them and let them know that there are people in the neighborhood who care. Last year I put some Bible verse cards in their little bad of treats. I hope I have enough to do that again this year.
ReplyDeleteThe doggy is cute in his baby carriage. I have a carriage much like that for my "Elva" doll. It's an antique. I never heard of an apple head chihuahua before. I guess it must be the shape of his head is more round?
Praying for the family and friends of the dear woman.
Have a blessed rest of your week.
Hi Pamela. Is this the dryest your pond has ever seen? I sure do hope you get some rain.
DeleteNo Halloween trick or treating here. It seems it is dying out with most families going to those trunk and treats or to the mall. Some churches are now offering the alternative. It’s been several years of this decline. Although it’s on a Friday night this year I anticipate some loud adult parties.
I hope you enjoy your Halloween.
