Lets go out to eat...
Hopefully, you will hear more from me in the coming week! I've been missing in action from posting and commenting, and am awfully behind, for which I am sorry. I have a week off from both my Bible studies for Thanksgiving, so, Lord willing, I can catch up.
THINGS AROUND TOWN...
💒🎳🎪🏠🏨🏫🏡
My area is seeing business growth with the upcoming Amazon facility in 2026, new housing, trolley cars, and marketplaces with many new franchise eateries. I prefer to support local restaurants, and they face tough competition from these places.
We're seeing too many unfamiliar franchises in town. While it's curious at first, after a while, many turn out to be just "lazy food" places with no real cooking - I'd prefer to cook at home instead!
I hope this California twist means fresh, healthier foods, although I don't understand chicken and waffles❓❓❓
This is the biggest business growth we've seen since we moved up here in 2008!
Some of the Southern food on the menu
fried green tomatoes
chicken and waffles
fried okra
Some of the dishes served are called:
The Mississippi,
Dixie Land Skillet
The New Orleans,
The Riverboat,
The Cajun
Louisiana catfish
Southern-style fish and chips (catfish)
and "N'awlins" sandwiches
Bayou chicken,
Monte Christo
Shrimp Po Boy
A Hamburger called, Bubbas
and one of the sides is Jambalaya Rice.
Hmm, doesn't sound very California to me. 🌞
I think they just throw in an avocado and a nut and call it a Californian? 😁
Huckleberries is moving into the long-standing IHOP location! While construction is still underway, I’m pleased that the building will be repurposed instead of torn down.
Two struggling franchises (Applebee's and IHOP) have decided to join forces, inside Applebee's, but they may be on a path to failure together. 😐 This new collaboration is something I have never heard of before.
All in all, it's good to finally witness the resurgence of new restaurants after the challenging times brought on by government shutdowns, which saw so many good local restaurants close, including the franchise Red Lobster.
I’m curious if these hybrid restaurants are a trend nationwide!
Have you come across Huckleberries or Raising Cane’s?
Are you spotting any new franchises in your area you've never heard of?
Do you like Chicken and waffles?
My son just set off for his annual Foodie vs. Wild camping trip, and I’m thrilled that his brother, Navy, will be joining him for a night. It warms my heart to see them continue to nurture their brotherly bond and create a real friendship without any nudging from me.
It's his 45th birthday on the 23rd!
🎂
That's it for me -
Until Next Time,
Debby

I rarely eat at chain restaurants, although there are quite a few around my house.
ReplyDeleteI’ll eat at one if it’s good but they’re not reliable due to staff turnover. I still would rather support local restaurants.
DeleteChick fil a is new to us. Am not a fan of chicken and waffles though, but will eat a chicken sandwich. Janice
ReplyDeleteI admit, I do like their chicken sandwich.
DeleteWe do have a Raising Cane franchise opening here in Kennesaw, but we're not big on eating out. How nice that Foodie and Navy will unite on a fun outdoor trip, too. More power to them. Blessings, Debby!
ReplyDeleteI love to eat out but only if’s it’s good. I hate to waste my money on a bad meal.
DeleteI have never seen two bigger restaurants join up like that - I personally like IHOPS.
ReplyDeleteI know, it's weird
DeleteI was about to say I have not seen Huckleberries, but just realized I have not been more than 2 miles from home in years. last year I went to Walgreens and was shocked that our bank was torn down and a free standing Chic Fi Le was there. only 1 mile from us.
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved here to the town of my mothers birth, this was still a small town, in 40 years it is now a metropolis of traffic and humans and they are now stacking people 12 floors up, the law was at that time not tall buildings over 4 floors. Wow and there is a restaurant on every space to put one, including all the ones that went out of business and new ones that opened. there are hardly any non franchise left...
Well you have a lot going on so I can understand why you haven't ventured too far from home.
DeleteAll of these are unfamiliar to me, but we never eat out anyway! 😁Happy birthday to your son - it's good when siblings maintain their bond.
ReplyDeleteThis mom is pleased!
DeleteWe got a new Raising Cane in a city nearby us, but we do not like it. When and if we travel south, we try and stop at Roosters (much better than Raising Cane). We rarely eat out unless we are on the road, but we do try to find places with healthier choices. Cracker Barrel offers greens but they are often out of them when we do stop there.
ReplyDeleteI've heart a few people say the same about Raising Cane's. Chicken places are popping up all over. I remember when it was just KFC. No Cracker Barrel here. I ate at one in Alabama and wasn't impressed.
DeleteWe've a Raising Cane nearby, but I've not been there. I'm still trying (and failing) to wrap my mind around Southern California with a Southern twist. There's nothing on that menu that I wouldn't enjoy. Happy Birthday blessings to Foodie!
ReplyDeleteNo, it's Southern food with a California twist! Lol
DeleteI want to try the fried green tomatoes but other than that, I don't know. My husband might enjoy it more than me or we'll just go for breakfast. It doesn't seem very California to me and am wondering if it will succeed. Most people around here like our own local cuisine.
I have not heard of the Applebees/I Hop things. All of our Applebees closed. Would love to try Huckleberrys!!
ReplyDeleteApplebees and IHOP are failing so it's their last attempt to save these restaurants
DeleteI'm so glad that your sons are strengthening their bonds and know that this trip will be wonderful for them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a strange combo of IHOP and Applebees together.
We have a Raising Cane's in town but don't care for it. Expensive and so-so food.
We do enjoy eating out but finances put a damper on it.
There is a Huckleberrys in Rocklin too, but I have never been there either. It is only open until 2PM and actually haven't heard of any of my friends going there.
We do really like to support the local restaurants but they are getting less and less because of the rising cost of everything.
Enjoy your week off and preps for Thanksgiving.
Sue
I have always enjoyed going out to eat but if the food is bad, we won't go back. So you all have a Huckleberry? I find it odd that we would get one. Apparently its a breakfast- lunch place only.
DeleteNo need to be sorry. Real life happens. I've been offline for four days and I'm not a single bit sorry about it. Life is too short. Life happens. It's okay to step away and come back when ready. Happy birthday to your son!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Ivy! ❤ It's hard to believe I have a 45 year old son.
DeleteWe Hardly ever go out to eat. Haven't noticed any new restaurants going up here. There is not enough people in my area to make it worth while I guess.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your son.
Not many small towns have restaurants.
DeleteHappy Birthday to your son. I hope they both have a great time on their camping adventure. Yes, I've been to breakfast at Huckleberry's in my hometown, and I thought it was pretty good. And Red Lobster closed in your area? I always like to hear about new restaurants with great food, but it seems that the old restaurants that are family owned for years are the best. I like that little stand with the pumpkins and apples. ; )
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Red Monster's been closed since the shutdowns. The building is still standing deserted and it's dilapidated and an eyesore.
DeleteThe only time we eat in a chain establishment is when we go to Kris's. If we eat out here it is in a place that can just be found here. We don't even go to Boston Pizza anymore.
ReplyDeleteI hope Foodie enjoys his camping trip and how wonderful that his brother will join him for a night.
God bless.
He picked the perfect weekend to go - beautiful weather.
DeleteWe have been getting several new franchises over the past few years. The latest was Raising Caines which was so crowded on their opening day police had to direct traffic! Same thing happened when Chik Fil A opened a few years ago! Crazy!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and your family always.
