Our Rainy Season ☔️ has arrived

It looks like the storm door has opened for our annual rainy season.

With the clocks falling back and those cozy, darker afternoons, I'm soaking up every moment because come March, I start to crave a little more sunshine.

But for now, I’m all in!

It's also that time of year when you have to be verrry careful where you walk... 💩

As I gazed out the window of my living room, I could see that more leaves were falling...
It’s chilly, but pleasantly refreshing! I haven’t turned on the heat since that one cold day last week.

My husband shared these photos from his hike along the Sacramento River,
 toward Red Bluff!

The oaks stand tall and proud, a silent testament to their strength. They don't need to flaunt their grandeur by spectacular Fall colors... their very presence commands respect!

My husband didn't stay out that long because he said he missed me.  We really have become two peas in a pod.

Yesterday, I ventured around the yard, and I couldn't help but marvel at the vibrant marigolds.

As the morning sun filtered through the trees, it cast a warm, enchanting glow

My flower girl is all dressed up, but she might want to cozy up with a lovely sweater. And who knows, she might even need an umbrella to keep her dry.

I was planning to harvest the lavender, but the rain had other plans!

California poppies begin to take root and spread now,  with vibrant orange blooms gracing us in late winter or early spring.

Last Wednesday evening, I had the opportunity to attend a leaders' fellowship at our teaching leader's home for BSF. We enjoyed a delightful evening filled with craft projects and meaningful conversations, all while savoring delicious food and great company. What a great bunch of women!

An ice breaker pass out

We've been exploring the book of Daniel, which has been wonderful! I'm excited for our individual group fellowships tomorrow. Instead of a lecture, my group ladies will join us in our room for a fun time of getting to know each other better, before we dig into this week's study.

I came up with my own theme of Thankfulness because we don't have to wait until Thanksgiving to be thankful.

But first, here is an ice breaker for all of you! ⬇️⬇️

Would you rather face the lions in the den like Daniel, or walk through the fiery furnace like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego?

While neither option would be perfect, the choice of the fiery furnace stands out especially because of that mysterious fourth figure who joins them in the flames. There's something powerful and reassuring about facing adversity together, isn’t there?

Would you prefer to interpret dreams like Daniel did for King Nebuchadnezzar?
or have visions of future kingdoms?

Understanding dreams would be fascinating.
I have many vivid dreams whose meanings I would love to discover.

Would you rather be known for your wisdom and understanding, like Daniel,
or for your unwavering faith, like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego?

I’d love to embrace both, but I’ll definitely need that unwavering faith when I step into that fiery furnace alongside Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! Ouch!

Would you choose to eat only vegetables and water like Daniel and his friends, or feast at the king's table with rich foods and wine?

I'd be looking forward to a refreshing time with Daniel and friends, savoring delicious water and crisp veggies! Especially since rich foods and wine tend to upset my stomach these days. Cheers to healthy choices and great company!

You can share below or just skip it. I'd be interested in your answers!

ANYWHO...

I asked them in a text message to think about these questions and pick one they would like to go deep into:

What is the best thing that has happened in your life that you are most thankful for?

What are some smaller things in your life that you are also thankful for?

Do you tend to be a complainer, or are you a thankful person?

***I picked this one because I like to be transparent and share my past struggles and how I overcame them. ⬆️⬆️

Now I loved my mom, even though she often expressed her frustrations by complaining. I recognized this trait in myself in my teens and BC days and have actively worked on it, with the Holy Spirit's strength. Reflecting on my past, I give all the glory to God for changing me.

Which group would you like to be around and why?

Not anymore - In the past, I noticed I would gravitate toward others who frequently complained. However, I realized that this negativity breeds dissatisfaction and fear—a much healthier approach to life is to embrace positivity and gratitude!

Why is it important to give thanks in all circumstances?

That's all I have for today. Now it's time for me to start dinner and finish getting ready for tomorrow so that I can relax this evening and enjoy the coziness of this Fall evening.

Wow, how true is that?

  1. Will you still get to use some of the lavender?

  2. I also enjoy the first burst of cool weather, but after a while it has overstayed its welcome!

    1. It's too bad my birthday is in March because by then I'm sick of the cooler temperature. I always tolerate the rain, though because the more the merrier to get us through the warmer months.

  3. The sun through the trees is beautiful. And you have a wonderful yard! So nice and large, too. Did you think of these questions yourself? I am impressed!

    1. My husband and I collaborated, plus Daniel was easy to do this with. I can pull about three questions from each book thanks to homiletics they emphasize in BSF.

  4. Everything seems to be in bloom right now - the flowers so vibrant and the grass so green. I would think it would be very cold right now. I read the questions - deep. I did think about a few.

    1. We're hovering in the mid 50's right now. Temps will be warming after this storm moves on, then we'll enjoy sunshine in the 60's and 70's till another storm moves in.

  5. Oh, Debby, how I can relate to the "two peas in a pod" comment your husband made. That resonated with me so much as it describes the relationship that Danny and I have. We are truly blessed! And that quote from Paul David Tripp says it all. Blessings, my friend!

    1. Some how that doesn't surprise me about you and Danny. I can hear it, in the way you write about your husband.
My husband and I are best friends. We enjoy each others company and can talk for hours. We're blessed to have each other.

  9. The photos are so pretty. Wr could use some rain. It's a colorful time of year in so many places. I believe I am a complainer. Especially this year with all of my medical issues. Take care.

  10. Our weather has cooled down. I see fall colors as I drive about the city. My front yard tree has falling yellow leaves. I see yellow flowers on my rose of Sharon bush. There are still a few blooms on the top that the hummingbirds visit. Our church studied Daniel last year and this year they are doing Revelation for the verse by verse study on Tuesday nights. I don't drive at night, so I watch online. Enjoy the rain. We sure need it down here.

    1. Hi Susan, I bet all those yellow leaves and yellow flowers are pretty. I enjoy the verse by verse teaching rather than topical. That's funny. I Don' like driving at night ever since my cataract procedure. I now have these floaters which I never had before and they bother me with night driving. Oh well...

  11. Some very good questions to ponder!!
It must be the windy season here, it's been so windy the last few days.
The Fall pictures are truly beautiful.

  12. I am really chewing on your questions. I do think my answers go right along with yours. I guess its all about Faith and Trust.
Thank you for the whole post today.

  13. You got lots of rain too! We had a great wind last night, and this morning my lawn was almost flooded with rain! It was a BIG one, and I was pleased we got so much rain. First off, I love your flowering girl. Do you know that I am constantly looking around for those vintage porcelain figurines, and they are so hard to find. I love your "window" photo, and I love window photos in general. Your lawn looks similar to mine with all the leaves that have fallen. Your lavender is so pretty too. The fellowship gathering sounds like a fun one with good food and conversation. And lastly, I love that last quote you shared. A wonderful post today, Debby.

    1. We're having some wind right now. It's been howling.
Have you tried thrift stores for porcelain figurines or garage sales? She's one I've had for years. I bought her at one of those home parties called Home Interiors. I used to keep her on my perfume tray but when we moved she was chipped and not wanting to.part with her, I placed her in the garden.

  14. How I wish these first few pictures had scratch and sniff technology! We've had quite the warm-up here these last few days, but I'm counting on another cold front next week. Still haven't turned on the central heat, yay!
We're not studying Daniel right now, but I love these ice breaker questions. I'm going to share with the ladies, starting Monday morning.

  17. hello, my name is Sandra and I am a complainer. I am trying to stop, but not having much luck. I do know that hanging out with complainers doesn't help. neither one on the Daniel question.. lions and fire? not if I had a choice. I love that hubby came home because he missed you... made me feel good.

    1. Hahaha! Admitting we have a problem is the first step! LOL.
We all complain and some of it can even be considered "righteous complaining." I think the key to "righteous complaining" is to approach God with honesty, humility, and a desire for His will to be done and from all I have seen, you do this.

  19. We are expected to get a wintry mix sometime later this week. I know you are enjoying this cooler weather. I try not to be a complainer, but I do complain about cold and snow all the time! I figured I earned the right to because I never complain about the heat/humidity!
